I stayed at this hotel for over a week recently. Although there were some good points, I will not stay here in the future. Here are my pros and cons:
Pros:
Great location. This hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Marienplatz. It also has many bars, restaurants and clubs within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. There is also a U-bahn (subway/metro), S-bahn (trolley), bus stop, and taxi stand about a block from the hotel. This was great as it really gave me options to get to my destination.
Delicious breakfast included with stay. The breakfast was wayyy better than I expected it to be. They made their own jams. They offered many types of pastries and breads, cheeses, fresh fruit, and juices. The fresh squeezed orange/grapefruit press machine was a nice touch. The hot breakfast was the same everyday: scrambled eggs, bacon, and breakfast sausage links. The breakfast was good for being free.
Cons:
It took 2.5 hours to get me my room. Apparently, they didn't clean their rooms until late in the afternoon even though their listed check in time is 2pm... FAIL! I can't tell you how frustrated and annoyed I was to have to wait for a room for that long after an 8 hour red eye transatlantic flight. Unacceptable.
The beds suck. First, the pillows are horrible. I had to use the couch pillow instead as the bed pillows were too flat and offered no support. Second, the king sized bed is two twins side-by-side. This wouldn't have been a con if the beds didn't slide off of the wooden platform they sat on so easily. My bed regularly had a 6 inch gap between the two twins by the end of the night. Third, their bed covers are just bedsheets tucked under the bed so they will slip out from under the bed after it slipped a few times on the platform.
WIFI is nonexistent. Their WIFI service was terribly slow and cuts out intermittently. Don't even think about watching videos. I would have been satisfied if plain text sites were returned consistently but I more often than not got a No Internet Connection or Timed Out alert. I can't think of an excuse for the lack of adequate WIFI service.
Room keys are actual metal keys. Some people may be into this for the nostalgia factor, but I'd much rather have a room card. First, their reception desk is closed after 10PM. If you happen to lose your key late at night, it would seem like a cumbersome process to get into your room. Even if it's during business hours, it would seem like a pain to replace the key. Second, the key is attached to an approximately three inch metal sort of cylindrical key chain that is a pain to carry around if you wear skinny or slim pants. I also hate carrying around too many things in my pocket so this may be just something that's not as big of a deal to others. read more
