Disappointing. As the Clerk (Scott) informed me rather curtly, we were placed in one of the old rooms in the old building because I did not book a premium room. In any case, I still expected my air conditioner to work properly and not have to walk across the parking lot to the newer building at night for some ice (which they charge for ?$? by the way). Oh, and it would have been helpful if Scott mentioned there are no elevators in our building. I would have probably let this go because I don't like to leave negative reviews if it weren't for the obvious coldness of the Clerks. Scott never once smiled at us during check-in nor check-out. The other lady at check-out looked as if she was straining to be cordial. We are super-nice people, chatting it up with everyone and didn't even complain about the room. We felt so unwelcomed. We have stayed here numerous times before the expansion and always loved and reccomended The place in Port aransas. They dont have many amenities, no pool, no gym, small non healthy selection for breakfast. The rooms were always spotless and just had a clean smell about them, that was prior to being becoming Hotel Lydia. The hotel acquired the property next door and with the acquisition lost alot of the things that made it what we loved. The rooms arent as clean, the smell of the hotel is gone. The carpets look dirty. You can tell the room cleaning is rushed, while not totally dirty the corners of the room and shower arent clean. The staff doesn't seem as friendly. You can't take away the small hotel feel without adding extra amenities. Unfortunately this may be the last time we stay here and I definitely wont be recommending this hotel like I would before. The words Port aransas rarely came out of my mouth without recommending The place, which wont be happening anymore. The hotel has become average possibly below average since it doesn't have any added amenities. read more

Absolutel trash place! Not only was the "manager" obviously high on meth or something but she had her bf there zooming around being "helpful" and didn't mind his inappropriate perverted comments. He had obvious track marks up and down his arms. Carried a black bag small enough to be a makeup bag (prob his drugs) She didn't even clean up her nose. Had a trail of white stuff caked to her nostril still. She had an obvious prob maintaining eye contact. She was unable to focus on concerns I made and the bf kept interrupting making disgusting comments to my daughter. The rooms were clean and smelled nice so clearly the hotel itself isn't the problem. The manager and her tag along bf made myself and my daughter so uncomfortable. If you want to feel safe do not stay here. They are so damn weird. read more

We stay heard every year for our offshore fishing trip across the road at deep sea headquarters. Rooms are clean and people are very friendly. They even clean the rooms daily which is a plus. Free breakfast every morning and they were adding on when we got here so it should be even more spacious. read more

Avoid this hotel--and other OYO hotels -- like the plague. We had a nightmare of a time at the Hotel Lydia in Port Aransas, Texas, in February 2026. We checked into our third-floor room with a balcony overlooking the harbor. A couple hours later we started smelling cigarette smoke wafting into our room, even though this was supposed to be a smoke-free building. The smoker was the hotel bartender and the lounge was a few doors away from our room. He was smoking a few feet from our door on the floor's long, shared outdoor walkway. We complained to the night manager, who said he'd speak to the bartender, but said he had no other rooms available. The bartender later told us, "I work on the third floor and I'll smoke on the third floor." When we packed up to leave the hotel, preferring to sleep in our car rather than breathe in second-hand smoke, the night manager suddenly found another room for us, on the second floor on the other side of the building. We moved that night, even though the room overlooked the parking lot and dumpsters. The next morning the day manager said we would receive a refund of $105 for our four-night stay because we had been moved to a room with a lower rate. We never received the refund despite numerous calls to the hotel and the OYO customer service number after we returned home. We'd never been so badly treated by a hotel or a hotel chain. read more

I wish they had an elevator but it's small so that's whatever. They have excellent employees and their breakfast has great options. No waffle station but they have toast and bagels and such and cereals but not eggs. The location offsets this totally. I only stay at hotels with breakfast and this is as very clean and the staff was amazing. Just know your plate number when you check in bc we had to send the kid out to get it at check in. read more

So we went here for a family vacation for a few nights and it was pretty good. The carpet appeared old in our room though so we made sure to wear shoes. Breakfast was fantastic. The few employees we spoke to were nice, but then came the issue. We were FORCEFULLY EVACUATED because Beryl was coming. This meant we would be missing a whole day and night. We left as requested and told them we hope they stay safe and we would see them again, THEN we found out that even though we were basically kicked out of the hotel for a city wide evacuation that we would not be getting our money back for the missed time bc we chose to leave after checkout time, UM, we thought we still had a whole day to go. We met another couple in the parking lot who were angry as well as the notices were given out after checkout time. So when I asked booking.com they said oh well sorry. then the hotel also said sorry, we keep the money. We ran into two other couples at lunch that were packed up to leave and their hotel gave them vouchers for 2 nights for the inconvience. We got the name of their hotel and will be staying there next time. I don't trust businesses who SCAM people out of their money. read more

There site ask desired check in time but if they are gull the night before best you'll probably get in is 4pm. Stayed here before and enjoyed it. Thought those times were yo good to be true. If the woman at the counter wasn't having a bad day I probably wouldn't have even written a review. She didn't seem happy to be there and acted snooty. If things change I'll probably edit this more positive if the rest of the stay is good but I still have to check in. Addendum: called me in an hour and let me know the room was rescheduled. Rest of stay was good. Recommend to coach employees that first impressions matter. Not a good idea to be snarky with customers. Also modify web page and remove times for early check in. read more

Right as you get off the ferry this cute little place is here waiting for you with bright modern decor, comfy beds, and friendly staff. There are tons of great attractions within walking distance but there is also a cart rental on the same property for a little extra fun. Everything in this hotel gives the feel of open breathing space, calm, and the beach (which is why we come to Port A. It was easy to get in and out of , we felt safe, and it was reasonably priced We both slept so well after going out foe a nice dinner and a walk on the beach. We'll definitely be back. read more

We stayed one night Monday-Tuesday April 2021. I have to say that the hotel looked and smelled clean which was my main concern. The bed was comfortable so I was relieved to get a decent night of sleep after spending the afternoon at nearby Mustang Island State Park. The decor is modern and the main lobby areas and our room were very well kept and decorated. The exit door near our room and area by the washing machine looks rusted and dirty and old, almost like a different hotel from the rest. Fortunately the king bed rooms are downstairs so we didn't have to use stairs at all. I did hear slight noise from above floor but we brought a speaker and played noise cancelling sounds at night so that helped. The room was very dark, the lighting is not sufficient. The bedside outlets I had used were broken so I found out in the middle of the night when my speaker lost its charge. Luckily the other outlets worked. The air conditioning worked well which I can't say about a lot of hotels. The bathroom was small but nice, could use more hooks and shelves for towels, soap etc though. No bathtub, only a good sized shower. There is a cute breakfast area however it is closed due to covid. We went to the lobby to pick up a sack breakfast which included a danish or muffin, oatmeal in a cup to prepare in our own microwave, juice and a rotten banana. There were several keurig coffee pod options in our room to brew our own coffee. I was hoping for views of boats/port/water but the surrounding views were of dilapidated buildings and dead palm trees. The beach is not within walking distance but is a quick drive. CVS, gift shops, and many small restaurants are nearby. All in all, it is a clean place to get some rest but lacking amenities like a pool, bathtub, nice views, hot breakfast and elevator. read more

If I could leave a negative star I would. My husband and I came here for his birthday weekend and our service dog. They requested to see my card, which I can refuse at any time. They took my card for incidentals, gave me a key, and we were already LAYING IN THE BED and they called us to kick us out. Terrible customer service DO NOT GO HERE. As soon as we walked in the front door we were greeted by a very sweet lady named Sandy. She made our check in super fast and easy. She was even able to find me a room on the first floor ,due to a back injury I wanted to avoid carrying my luggage up the stairs. The elevator is the only thing this hotel lacks(that's only reason I gave them 4stars)The rooms were very clean. Sandy also made sure we stopped by for our breakfast before we headed fishing once again giving us excellent customer service. I highly recommend this hotel. Needed a room last minute in Port A & found The Place Hotel on HotWire. I was skeptical at first because I couldn't find any reviews or detailed photos outside of discounted hotel sites. I'm so glad we went regardless! We checked in at 10pm after 4 hours of driving from Austin. The man at the front was funny & welcoming, I believe his name was Armando. Check-In was really quick with no strings attached. The interior is clean, modern, and vibrant. The main area has couches, a TV, high-top dining tables (complimentary grab-and-go type breakfast in the morning). There's a business desk & 24/7 coffee. The floor plan is really open. THE ROOM: Two double beds with all white linens. There was a desk, TV, air conditioning, ceiling fan, mini-fridge, and another little table with colorful chairs. Standard rooms. The bathroom was clean and the bathroom mirror had a vanity-style rimmed lighting around it which was nice :) Clean and simple. They provide a binder of suggested places to go, per-circumstance kids/nightlife/food, etc. Super helpful. Everything's all within 2 miles or so of the hotel, if not walking distance. Fins Restaurant is across the street and great for kids. To wind down we got a bottle of wine and watched standup comedy on my laptop in the hallway table. (Sleeping kiddo). The guy who checked us in initially walked upstairs and gave us a couple Hershey's bars during our show. It felt like we were staying at a friends house. Which was cool. (Quite the opposite of what I assumed going to a hotel with no reviews and checking in at 10pm would be. LOL) The checkout process was just as painless. Things that might be cons: 1. They don't have an elevator so if you have any true physical restrictions you may want to make sure you're getting a first floor room to avoid the stairs. (There's only two floors). 2. If you're super type-A about noise in the morning, you can hear some commotion during the complimentary breakfast hours. I sleep light and it wasn't really an issue but just don't expect pure silence in such a small hotel. 3. If you like to be loud past 10pm you should stay at a bigger hotel, with more insulation to surrounding rooms. It's pretty quiet at night. We came to Port Aransas to do a laid back two days of beach & hotel / girls trip and I'd say it was a success! If we come back and need a hotel we'll definitely be staying here. read more

I recently booked a stay at this hotel and the host Scott was rude . Apparently my booking was under my email not my name so I tried to explain but he was not having it he started to me what his opinion was instead of being friendly and help me get through this minor detail. He already had my information- Texas Id , email address and a phone number. I was happy to finally get to the place but his attitude change everything that I expected. it really upset me on how the person treated me . And With minimum customer onsite (Monday , Tuesday) The person get me a room right next to the service storage where employees have to go in and out in the morning so my sleep could've been better. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at The Place! My friend and I were in Port A for a "Bestie Weekend". We go there pretty late on Friday and was immediately greeted by Stacy, the front desk clerk. She was so friendly and accommodating. When bringing our bags in, she helped us get our things to the room (because under packing is for quitters). Stacy really went above and beyond. Most rooms face common area. 1 and 3am had to go out and ask the people to be quiet we were not the only ones asking. you can hear everything in rooms. First off we are a family of 5, my husband and I with 3 kids aging (8,3 & 2). We rented the family room which had 2 queens and a sofa bed. We stayed on a Friday night which obviously is going to be more expensive but I honestly wouldn't pay that much to stay here again because it just wasn't for us. The room is as beautiful as the pictures BUT the room smelt like paint and construction. Now I do understand they are doing renovations which they do have noted on their website but it was so bad I had to buy an air freshener to try to mask the smell. The room is very spacious perfect for everyone to have a little space. The room could have been cleaner for what we paid. ($240) The couch is pleather and when we walked in we noticed there was a sweat stain I am assuming like when someone sits down there was a whole butt and legs imprint so I had to clean the couch. Then we noticed one of the headboards had like grease streaks? made me think about where those came from. Now the bathroom, I LOVE the mirror they have and the shower was nice very spacious. Only complaint about the bathroom was on the outside of the shower on the floor there was a spot that looked like blood but whatever it was I wasn't going to touch it. The lobby is pretty BUT there was cones set up and water on the floor from a leaking from the ac? Or whatever is above the lobby and they do not have an elevator by the way! I know I saw stairs in the pictures and wasn't thinking but having to carry everything for 5 people upstairs was not enjoyable but that's not their fault. Main reason for the 3 stars is because of location and the space it provided. Most of the restaurants were literally across the street and the little cruise that we were going to go on was across the street as well. So it's very convenient! The staff was friendly. The room we stayed in on the second floor was very clean and aesthetically pleasing. We were satisfied with the cleanliness of both the bathroom and beds. There is a nice LED mirror in the bathroom, a clean shower and a full size mirror. We booked this room for a one night stay. Beds and pillows were comfortable. My only complaint is that at the time of visit (August 2020) there was construction going on and the workers on the roof were SUPER loud. They woke us up early. Although I wasn't able to actually stay at the hotel I simply wanted to write a review to praise their customer service. I broke down on the way to Port A and shot them a call around 9 pm to let them know. The young lady, Melissa, was very nice and related to my issue and I wasn't questioned about my ordeal or asked for proof from a tow company. I was simply told I was ok for the night and that I should call the following day around 12 to speak with a manager. At 11:30 a manager personally called me to make sure everything was in order. Told him I couldn't make it due to the issue and without pause I was told there would be no cancellation charge and everything was ok. They WILL be my next choice when I do finally make it to Port A. They just bought themselves a loyal guest who will always pick them. read more

This place is brand new-has only been opened a month or so. The rooms are huge inside and the decor is nice. There is no bathtub, only a shower. There is no balcony outside but that was not necessary as we only needed a place to rest after spending the day at the beach which is just a short drive from the room. We paid only 135 for the night which is comparable to red roof inn rates this weekend. The place is a much nicer room for the price. If you want a room on the beach I would check out The Dunes but you will pay 2x more than The Place. read more
