Okay I am giving this place a low rating due to the ridiculous low standard in which the hotel is…read morerun. By no fault of the staff who allowed me to expect more of the facility without resistance. First we did arrived 2 hours early from the 3pm Check in, so we were told to return in 30 minutes. No problem. Upon return an hour later we are given a room and immediately were not happy with the door. There was a gaping crack upon closure that allowed you see the light and fan fixture enough. This would not do because at night Saltillo gets cold. So we were shown another room....almost a yes but no heater here and again my Father is from here we know nights get cold. The hotel clerk was genuinely hospitable and it's a shame for that I would love to give this place stars, but sadly it's not enough. We are shown another room and finally it's agreed this room has a heater and seems more agreeable. We went from first floor to third bi level. Coming to the room I had two towels from previos room and housekeeping immediately wanted them. There were three of us. On the this day I said no and kept the two towels in addition to the two in room. Next day comes and they clean room Leaving just 2 towels. Now according to housekeeping next day when I request one towel, management has a rule only 2 towels per room. What kind of Mickey Mouse joke is this! Two towels for three people. Whoever management is needs to reflect on what type of business they wish to run. This is poor hospitality. (I did get my towel, housekeeping was genuinely kind about it). Next the problems with room because we switched rooms I had to request the remote. You are only allowed ONE keycard per room, making it difficult to separate. Are room had no phone for local calls. The bathroom door was difficult to open and close due to very poor maintenance. The lighting is minimal at best, my father was not able to see when he shaved. Sad lamp situation broken, no switch, a electrical fire waiting to happen. Water filled jug in room only filled first day we came. We had a three day, two night stay and it was quiet an experience. The hotel itself is a gorgeous rustic hacienda, but for this day and age it really should have better upkeep. Oh and BIG one if you care about your sleep at least on Saturday night bring ear plugs. There was a band playing nearby and they played until the wee hours. I thankfully had my earplugs so I slept like a baby. We booked on Expedia and prices at the desk where less than what we paid online. I spoke to the clerk about this and he smiled, laughed and said booking online isn't cheaper. It's always best to just come in. The boss puts cheaper prices during low season. I could not believe this backward thinking that paying ahead of time and ensuring a space should cost more. I've never had this experience with advanced booking. He did not honor the difference in price, this also was disagreeable. Also there is very little space in most of the rooms here. Some good things to note that this place is very central downtown and it is close to the mercado, plaza de armas, la Alameda and fantastic shopping. The hotel is walking distance to all mentioned so if you don't have a vehicle but want the comfort of downtown being accessible then this place is good. I have no complaint about my bed and sheets, they weren't perfect but they were clean and comfortable. The shower though small also was good. It wasn't an uncomfortable experience and I did feel clean. The feel of the old time hacienda is of a rural elegance. In closing If you are cool with rustic, minimal maintenance and don't mind sharing towels this is the place for you.
