We stayed in San Cassiano during our trip to the Dolomites, in large part because the book of…read morehiking trails that we had for the Dolomites seemed to place the town squarely in the middle of where the hikes were generally situated. Lagacio seemed like a newer spot that wasn't a 5-star spot, but it was small (we counted around 30 rooms total in the whole place) and better-priced than options such as Fanes or Rosa Alpina, and the finishes looked quite new - so we ended up booking a 6-night stay here. The first thing that I really liked was that the 2 levels of garage parking have assigned spots - so you will never be jammed for a place to park, as I noticed at many other hotels in the area. Everyone here is friendly as well, from the bellhop who shuttled all of our bags to our rooms, to the folks at the front desk who could answer all of our questions and (by the end) knew that I wanted a Dolomiti red ale whenever we came back from hikes. Because the hotel is built on a slope, the garages are at the ground level next to the main road - but the lobby (on the '4th' floor) was at the ground level for the small road that goes through town. Outside of the lobby - which is very cozy, with a few couches, outdoor bar stools and tables, and a small bar - the rest of the floors are filled with suites, with each floor having additional features (e.g. the breakfast dining room on the 3rd floor, fitness on the 2nd floor, spa on the 1st floor, and laundry on floor -1). The hallways, like the rooms themselves, have a lodge-y feel to them, with lots of clean-cut, light-colored wood lining the hallways, covered with thin carpets on top. The rooms themselves are definitely more designed for folks staying together, as there is no door or divider separating the shower area from the bedroom - something to be aware of if you are traveling with a friend). Aside from that small design flaw, though, the rest of the room is excellent. You have an ample walk-in area next to the door to store your suitcases and hang clothing, followed by the kitchenette and the 'living room', which has a couple couches. The best feature is the filtered water faucet, which negates the need to load up on bottled water (and was extremely handy to fill up our water bladders in our backpacks each day). You can walk straight out onto the porch and simply relax under any weather (the rain didn't hit us on the sole rainy day we had here). The bed was perhaps the other negative as well, as I am not a big fan of firm mattresses, but the beds here are quite firm, which made it hard to get the kind of optimal sleep I had been hoping for. That said, the mattresses we had on our trip were more on the firm side, leading me to believe it's more of a European preference than anything. Perhaps the best benefit of staying here was the food. Cake was served on the weekdays at 3:30 PM, and it was a tasty way of refreshing ourselves after our hikes. It varies day to day, with my favorite probably being the berry jelly-filled cake we had on one of our first days there. Breakfast, though, was the star. You have assigned tables to sit at every day (making it easy to know where to plop down and start your day), and the choice of food is absolutely fantastic. You can make your own juice with the 2 juicing machines available (I had fresh-squeezed OJ every day), sample many varieties of home-made bread (I really liked the ciabatta rolls), and indulge in pastries, toast, cured meats, yogurt, granola, and many other choices, along with choices of fresh eggs prepared to your liking. It certainly made it tempting to go overboard every day, but the variety was fantastic, and with such wholesome foods from local sources, it was hard to go wrong. I enjoyed everything I had here each morning, and it's such a simple way to start the day without having to figure out what you want to make (or, more difficult since this is a small resort town, where to eat in the morning). While there are many choices of where to stay in this region, I was a big fan of Lagacio, and I would be very tempted to stay here again should I come back to these parts in the future. As a relatively new hotel / resort, everything has a fresh feel to it, and I can't say enough about how cozy and relaxing it was to spend time here during our week in the mountains. The only real downside was the firmness of the mattress, but everything else was par excellence.

The hosts treat all their guests like their family. The food was exceptionally good. Everything was made from scratch and served with perfection. The dinner menu changes daily based on the chef's special. Be sure to come with a huge appetite! The breakfast is a buffet style. They serve a wide range of bread, prosciutto, cereal, cheese and beverages. If you are here during the ski season, you can buy the ski pass directly from the hotel. The hotel also has a separate storage room for your ski gears which makes it super convenient. I highly recommend this place. it is a great treat with a fantastic hospitality! Can't wait to go back!

The mountains around the town make it very lovely and we enjoyed our stay. The female owner makes this hotel special .. she's so friendly and charming .. and does everything with flare. Dinner entrees were served under silver domes and the unveiling was coordinated for effect. Over all the food on this tour was very disappointing but this was by far one of the better meals included. This Hotel dates back to 1826 as the oldest in town. The decor and woodworking is gorgeous though you do have to watch out for splinters .. so don't shuffle your feet. The doors have real keys with the heaviest key-fabs you've ever seen and some of the door ways are so dark you would find a flashlight helpful. I thought the town, hotel and our room were very cute. Loved having a balcony to go out on with a view. The beds were super firm .. all the beds in Europe have been FIRM which wasn't my comfort preference but must be a Europe thing. the free internet was slow and spotty but enough to check in with family. We had a do not disturb sign on the door but the staff entered anyway .. to clean the room .. close the shudders etc. Didn't like they came in though we put the do not disturb sign .. but noting was stolen or seemed out of place. There is no AC or Fans .. so we were a bit too warm ... thankfully it was spring not summer. As with many in Europe they did not provide hair conditioner which is standard in areas. Even though there were a few things wrong .. the owner was so funny and charming .. we loved her and our stay. When we were leaving she got in the road and stopped traffic for all our group to cross. Now that is service!!!!!

The rooms were cleaned and sanitized and all the linen, including the bath robes were soft and inviting. The staff was really attentive and polite and made sure we had a pleasant stay. We did have a bit of an issue while trying to pay as the credit card system was down and our taxi to the next spot was waiting, so we had to rush to get cash to be able to pay. Maid service came through multiple times per day keeping my room in perfect order. The location of this hotel is great since it's walking distance to downtown Cortina (lots of shops, bars, restaurants). You have to drive to the slopes, but that's how it works here no matter where you stay. Breakfast was included with my room and was ok. Eggs, pastries, coffee, and fresh fruit were served daily. Not a particularly impressive spread but got the job done. The spa (aka Wellness Center) is large with multiple saunas and steam rooms (coed). They also have a pool and hot tub, which always had kiddies playing - don't expect an oasis. I opted for a massage one afternoon, and it was below average. Also the spa receptionists don't speak English, unusual for a fancy hotel.

The owner is also an avid cyclist, which accounts for the amenities available to cycling groups. This hotel offers great value for the price; from the rooms to daily breakfast and dinner, complimentary wifi, among other things, for which I think I think make it a five-star choice. The rooms: I found our room to be very comfortable, spacious and clean. We had a view to the meadows on the backside of the hotel where you can see deer eating wildflowers in the mornings! All rooms basically come with a view of some sort and a balcony. The food: Breakfast is included in your stay and you get an array of fresh fruit, cheeses, salmui's, breads, pastries, granola, etc. You can also order eggs to your liking. We also enjoyed dinner here one night. The menu features traditional Ladin cuisine as well as some Mediterranean influenced dishes. Other amenities: The hotel offers laundry service which is super fast! They also have a sauna, steam room and massage onsite in addition to a play area for kids and a small gym. In the winter, they have a shuttle to the ski lift, since this is not located directly on the ski area. This hotel is also ideal for cycling groups, as they have a cycling garage with space to wash your bikes as well as storage. Melodia is not located in a town, which for some might not be ideal. But the overall value here makes it a five!

The hotel is located just outside the central part of Cortina, however a five minute walk put you at Corso Italia (the pedestrian shopping/dining area). Additionally, one of the ski bus routes stopped right outside the hotel (if you were planning to ski 5 Torri or Passo Falzarego). A short walk over the river brought you to the bus stop for visiting the Faloria and Tofana areas. Check-in was pretty seamless, as room keys were distributed without a problem in short order. Some of the staff helped with bringing luggage up the stairs as the elevator only had room for 4 people (without luggage), 2 people with luggage. From the very beginning, they went out of their way to make us comfortable. On the night of our arrival, Stefano the owner of the hotel briefed our group on the ski areas in close proximity. Additionally, he mentioned a few of the on-mountain restaurants which were not to be missed. His recommendations were excellent! My friend and I ended up sharing two rooms with a shared bathroom, so it meant that we had more space than normal. Each bedroom had a generous sized armoir to hang clothes and a shelf for folded items. The beds were firm, which was a welcomed relief after a long day of hitting the slopes. The housekeeping staff did a great job of keeping our rooms tidy. The main floor of the hotel had plenty of space for a larger group to hang out in the evenings. There is a small bar, well-stocked of course, for a pre-dinner drink. The dining room was spacious and had plenty of space for our group. Additionally, even with a large group it felt like things never got too loud, which I appreciate. Breakfast was a buffet, with assorted bread, pastries, and fruit. Additionally, some proteins were well-represented (eggs, meats, and cheeses). The croissants were fantastic. On the morning of our departure, the staff was kind enough to start breakfast 30 minutes earlier. Dinners were sit down, not buffets. Each evening, you selected your courses for the following evening. Each dinner consisted of a starter, first course, second course, an dessert. Portion sizes were perfect and the menu was varied. If there were any dietary restrictions, they were happy to accomodate. Each evening, when your arrived for dinner, candles were lit at each table. Additionally, bottles of red/white wine, sparkling and still water were sitting out ready to be drank. A wonderful hotel with lots of character.
