This was my personal favorite landmark I visited during my time in Marseilles. Don't get wrong, I…read moreliked the more popular Notre Dame, but I liked the vibe here better. It's nowhere near as crowded and in my opinion, has more local flavor. This beautiful water reserve has a park on the upper level which is a bit interesting to walk around with remnants of a bizarre zoo. It has its own listing so I will reserve my thoughts for there: https://www.yelp.com/biz/parc-longchamp-marseille-2 After a dire water shortage in 1835 causing a cholera epidemic, this reservoir was completed in 1869 to assist in preventing such an event again. Also....buildings taking 30 years to build is unfathomable to me! Nowadays, this monument also houses the Museum of Fine Arts in one wing and the Natural History Museum in the other wing. And between the two sides, the château d'eau has awe inspiring architecture marked with details in every crevice. This castle of water is just wodnerful. I'm not gonna pretend that an adorable dog swimming in one of the fountains bumped this review from a 4 star to a 5. I love animals and he was so adorably carefree!

We didn't know what to expect, but thoroughly enjoyed our experience and time here! Easy to walk to…read morefrom the Nice city center. We arrived in the afternoon and apparently that day admission fees were waived due to a few temporary exhibit closures. Free admission! : ) Three rooms were blocked off.. I would have loved to see Chagall's timeline, but nevertheless, what we did see was amazing!!! The museum was not large and overwhelming. His work was beautifully displayed. A lot of interesting biblical pieces, glass stained pieces, and a few circus gypsy references. Plenty of comfy benches to sit and resonate. Drawings were displayed as well. A small souvenir bookshop was located next to the museum where I bought a few art postcards and a Chagall museum book. Talented artist and so worth the visit! Must see for sure

You either love the artist Marc Chagall or you don't. I've rarely seen any middle of the road…read morereview of his work. When I told my French cousin we were visiting this museum he looked aghast. Not a fan. Me, on the other hand, I find joy, inspiration and melancholy in Chagall's work. His stained glass inspires. His canvases touch on culture, religion and history, and also weave in colorful influences of a later life spent in the South of France. Tucked in an affluent hillside in Nice, the museum can be booked ahead or tickets purchased in person. They have many large-scale oil paintings, along with stained glass, mosaics, watercolors and pen and ink drawings. Recommended. The museum has an outdoor cafe, for those who want a quick pick me up after the museum, and to linger.
