Located about a 10-minute walk south of the main square, this hotel is unassuming on the outside, but stunning when you walk in. The hallways are wide and airy, with lovely decor and details to make you feel calm and relaxed from the first moment. We booked a deluxe king room for 3 nights. Our room was a corner room on the second floor overlooking the pool. The room is spacious with a comfortable bed, a hammock (yes, a hammock in your room!), a large dresser and another cabinet for more surface area and storage, and a large and lovely bathroom. There is no bathtub, but the shower is amazing. The bathroom is partially "open air" with a rain shower head. Showering was quite a unique experience. Breakfast is included with your stay and it's awesome. There is self serve coffee, tea, and juices, and bread and fruit. You can choose an entree (choices are omelette, pancakes, waffle, huevos rancheros). The special is definitely a must try. It's served with warm tortillas, beans, and salsa. The hotel offers a few unique experiences. The one we took a part of was the Ek Balam guided tour and half day at a private cenote (YES!!! A *private* cenote to yourselves!). There is also a day trip to Rio Lagartos (nature reserve, pink sand beaches, and flamingos!), a cooking class, and a mixology class. The Ek Balam and cenote Chenxunan trip must be reserved in advance and it's only one group per day. The day trip includes transportation, cold water and soft drinks, a delicious multi-course meal at the cenote, and of course an entire cenote for you to enjoy for 3-4 hours! Our guide for Ek Balam, Juan, was a wonderful and knowledgeable gentleman who told us stories and details that really enriched our exploration of the ancient ruins. Ek Balam is not as popular as the nearby Chichen Itza but definitely worth a visit. The pyramid is climbable and features a very interesting excavated tomb with wonderfully preserved carvings. Cenote Chenxunan was absolutely gorgeous. The cenote is privately owned an they take great care to preserve the land. A lot of the popular cenotes in the area get hundreds and thousands of visitors a day. But this cenote gets up to 12-15 visitors a day. We saw the local flora and fauna thriving in this preserved area. The swim in the cenote was absolutely delightful and revitalizing. It's fairly large with a cave and many stalactites. We even saw a couple of owls and heard some bats! Our stay at Hotel Posada San Juan was amazing and if we're back in Valladolid, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. But hands down my favorite part was their in house tequila! I kid you not, the smoothest, best tequila I have ever had! They give you a free shot when you arrive and sell it for $11(!) a bottle. We went home last year with 4 bottles, and even made a day trip there just last week to get more. The only down side is that you cannot walk to the main square from Zentik, but even with that, I don't imagine we will stay anywhere else on a trip to Vallodalid.

We were without reservations and showed up in town unexpectedly on our road trip through the Yucatan. My husband had some questions about the room (whether or not the included bedding/sheets and a kitchenette) and Juan-Antonio gladly offered to show us the room. The room we had (#5) was simple and efficient, very clean and stocked with the basics of what we needed. There was a small hot plate and a kitchenette sink with two plates, two bowls, forks, a pan, and nothing else. There is, however, a communal kitchen downstairs with a larger stove, sink, more dishware, and a communal fridge, water kettle, and anything else one might need to cook a meal. We stayed here for two nights, and we loved our stay. Every time we had a question Juan-Antonio was eager to assist us with such a happy attitude, he was incredibly patient of my badly-spoken Spanish and had conversations with me about local life, explaining the religious ceremony taking place at the church/park next door. He also happily offered us explanations of some events and had maps painted on his walls to show where popular places are in Valladolid. If we end up coming back through town we will absolutely stay at Santa Maria Guesthouse again. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Valladolid as well. Hacienda Kaan AC can be very difficult to find if you attempt to use Google Maps or any of the…read morelisted addresses. Save yourself some stress and please use our directions to drive to this wonderful establishment: From Cancun/Airport - Take 307 to 180 to 180D (basically follow the signs to Valladolid/Merida). Be warned, this is a toll road. It costs about 300 pesos and they do not accept foreign currency or credit cards. The cost is about $15-20 USD, but will save you about 90minutes. Since it is a toll road, there are no towns or gas stations till you hit Valladolid (about 90km). After about an hour (we drove the speed limit), take 295 South towards Valladolid. At the roundabout, follow the signs to Cancun via 180 (the Northeastern part of the "wheel" if you look at a map). At the stop sign, take a left and cross over the highway and 2 exit/entrance ramps to the Hotel (It's a huge sign/gated entrance). If you see Mayapan Traditional Agave Distillery, you've gone West instead of East. If you see the police stop in Valladolid, you've gone too far and do not use the 180 that runs through town; it will take you all the way to Tulum. Five Stars isn't enough to describe how amazing Hacienda Kaan AC. A hidden gem in the Yucatan that has set the standard for all of our future stays at any Resort/Bed & Breakfast. We were hesitant to write this review, because we thought about keeping it for ourselves and the locals that visit here often. If you are looking for a combination of rest and adventure, look no further. The Hacienda, itself, is rich in history, which is detailed in a book written in 1864. The book, "El Filibustero" described the adventure and love story of a pirate that resulted in the property that is translated from Mayan to mean "High in the Sky," hence the hotel's other name "El Olimpo." Even the main building, El Castillo, was reconstructed from the archaeological remains of a 16th century castle (large pictures of the site are located in the resorts restaurant) and contains an extensive collection of artwork from that period. Yes, you are literally staying in a museum and historical site located in the heart of the Yucatan. More on adventure: We highly recommend that you have your own transportation if you decide to stay here. The hotel is located 15minutes North of ancient city of Valladolid, a great place for strolling through its colonial-era stone streets to visit extremely tourist friendly restaurants, chapels, markets, and cenotes. Three major Mayan Ruins are located within driving distance: Chichen Itza, Ek' Balam, and Coba (the last is located in Quintana Roo half way between the hotel and the ocean), Many cenotes are located around the hotel in addition to their own private one (the mechanism used for raising and lowering people looks ancient and scary - we don't think it has been in operation for years). More on relaxation: During your stay, you can enjoy their pools, wander the grounds, or just relax in their comfortable rooms with jetted tubs and powerful AC units. You'll basically have your own private Butler that works the grounds and the restaurant. Edwardo worked two of the three nights that we visited. English was not his first language, but he was extremely patient and friendly. Helping us despite our horrid Spanish (we've gotten rusty over the last ten years since living in Juarez) and teaching us some Mayan in the process: "Ni'bo'olal!". Each stay comes with a complimentary breakfast at their restaurant too (Please see our separate review for the restaurant). I could write pages on how amazing and relaxing our stay was Hacienda Kaan AC.
