I splurged a little on Hotel Condes de Barcelona, but I could not have been more pleased with the hotel, the location, the amenities, and the friendly service. They had sent me an email with an offer of a car transfer from the port, and they have a secure luggage storage room for our bags. The doorman was charming. The hotel is in a perfect location. We felt very safe exploring from there. We walked back after our tour of La Sagrada. Check in is early (2:00 pm) and checkout was relatively late (noon). When we checked in, they provided two complimentary drink tickets for the Alaire, the rooftop bar (I had already planned to go there to see the views). Our room, overlooking the Passeig de Gracia, was quite spacious by European standards. The bathroom was gorgeous. Everything was immaculate. The bed was quite large and very comfortable. After enjoying our drink on the roof, we checked out the pool. It is a smaller infinity pool, but very private and lovely. We did not swim only because we were tired. For dinner, we walked just a block or so over to Las Ramblas for tapas. It was a memorable stay and a wonderful introduction to Barcelona.

What looked…read morelike a nice hotel quickly turned into a nightmare when I checked into the room to find an ant infestation. At first, there were only a few ants, despite the windows being closed and the room being "clean." We killed the ones we saw upon entering and then we left to explore Barcelona for the day. After hours of being out and being exhausted from an overnight flight, all we wanted to do was come back and sleep. Instead we came back to THOUSANDS of ants in every crevice of our room and in every part of our bags/luggage. They were in our bed sheets, in our bathroom, in every single pocket and fold of all of our luggage. It was DISGUSTING. We complained to the front desk (it was midnight) and they said they would switch our room. I requested housekeeping be sent to our room to help us remove the ants from our bags and help bring our stuff into the new room. The housekeeping lady came in and told us it was too big of a mess to clean without help. Then she left us in the room to fend for ourselves! So we spent over an hour removing every single thing out of our bags, shaking the ants out, and then repacking. Ultimately we had to clean and take the stuff to the next room ourselves. As you can imagine, this ruined our entire stay in Barcelona. We were so worked up and grossed out that the sleep we so desperately looked forward to was ruined. I demanded a refund of the night at the front desk. They told me to speak to management in the morning. I told them the time I would be at the desk. When I got to the desk, the manager was "in a meeting" and when I asked how long he/she would be, they did not know of course. I am currently battling with them to get my money back, especially after paying an extra $100 for early check in! But Hotel Condes does not give your money back so choose very wisely when considering whether you want to stay here and risk your vacation to Barcelona being RUINED! And special shoutout to staff member Esteban, whose attitude comes straight from hell. Even upon checking in before all of this, his cold demeanor and harsh tone were so off-putting. I wouldn't wish dealing with him on my worst enemy. You'd think a smile would make him burst into flames the way he repelled joy. Rethink the hospitality industry please! And to Hotel Condes: No one wants to go on vacation and clean ants our of their bag at midnight!!! Do better!

Every single day it was overcrowded, with numerous children under the age of 10 screaming, splashing, running around the pool deck, and jumping into the water. Parents were throwing footballs and other balls for the children to catch as they jumped off the deck, despite the hotel's posted pool rules prohibiting this behavior. It made the pool feel more like an unsupervised playground than a place where guests could relax. The service was also well below what I would expect from a Novotel. Staff responses were consistently slow, and almost every request had to be made multiple times before it was actually fulfilled. I was also surprised that complimentary bottled water was not provided, which is a basic amenity offered by many hotels in this price range. Finally, the bedding was very uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Overall, the hotel has potential, but the lack of enforcement around the pool, poor service, uncomfortable bedding, and missing basic amenities made for a disappointing stay. I would not choose to stay here again unless these issues are addressed.

Also lots of great restaurants in the area. My room was very large and clean. The bed was comfortable. The only thing that caused it to lose a star was the musty smell in the bathroom, in spite of it being clean. I had a great time here and would definitely come back.
