    Altona-Altstadt

We had a comfortable stay at Egon Hotel for 3 nights during the Reeperbahn festival. The location…read moreis great. Steps away from one of the subway lines which connects you directly to (and from) the airport, as well as to other lines that take you to other parts of the city. Walking from one end of the famous Reeperbahn Street (where the hotel is) to the opposite and is an easy walk with lots to do, eat and look at. The room itself was small...we had a room with 2 twin beds that we were able to separate so my son and I could have a little space. Besides the size and the tiny bathroom, everything was very clean. The room had all the amenities we needed (hair dryer, soap, shampoo.) The water in the shower was hot. The staff were very friendly and took care of any requests we had. (I think we just asked for extra pillows.) The breakfast was more than adequate, with a super-automatic espresso machine that made any drink we wanted and tasted really good. (Okay carafes of drip coffee were available too.) There was enough to eat for us vegetarians in terms of cheese, bread, eggs and vegetables as well. Besides the size of the room we were happy with everything about the hotel.

Check-In possible at 2pm, I arrived a lil early and the room wasn't ready, but I was able to leave luggage in a locked storage area. The rooms are extremely small. Wi-Fi seems to be not complementary, I wasn't able to log onto the network. I wasn't informed at reception about that, luckily I didn't need it. For some reason I had no electricity in the morning, not sure if that had something to do with one of the elevators that was serviced. The hotel is located at the end of the Reeperbahn, port (landing bridges) in walking distance. Recommended for a short stay only.

    St. Pauli

This place is pretty terrible. I stayed here for three nights. There appeared to be blood spattered…read moreon the wall in the hallway. The first room we stayed in (we eventually changed rooms) didn't have its own restroom, so we needed to use the common bathroom, which was, itself, gross--people used the toilet and didn't flush; the lock on the stall didn't work. The showers were so gross that my partner insisted on buying sandals to use it. Moreover, there was no temperature regulation in the common shower, so only burning-hot water came out. The lighting in the hallway outside of our room didn't work. The door to our room had holes in it and the lock appeared to have been kicked in at one time (I'm not joking or exaggerating.) The entire lobby reeks of cigarettes. The hostel is situated in a *very* rowdy neighborhood (Reeperbahn), which is full of drug addicts, homeless folks, and prostitutes (my purpose here is not to judge them, but to give you a sense of what kind of environment you'd be in). The hostel is accessed through an alleyway surrounded by strip clubs, which had vomit in it when we left to go out one night. The place is quite noisy. All in all, it was a pretty sh*tty experience.

No, no, this was not good at all! I've been to lots of AO hostels already but this really is the…read moreworst I've been!! I love Reeperbahn and especially St Pauli, so the location is perfect and because it's a bit away from the street you can't hear that noise... But you do hear the noise of thr big groups coming back from partying all night long, stamping through the hallways and rooms upstairs and yelling... So I didn't have a lot of sleep. When I wanted to take a shower I had to go to the shared bathroom (which I shared with like 15 rooms...). There were 5 showers and none of them had hot water. It was freezing in this bathroom and with just cold water I was an icecube when I came out. There was only one toilet for both women and men for all these rooms. When I said something about this the girl at the desk told me that it always takes a long time to get warm water... Well didn't dare to try it again. I decided that this was my last time in AO Reeperbahn!
