Hotel Bayers was a mixed bag, mostly bad.
The location couldn't be more convenient in regards to its proximity to both Karlsplatz and Hauptbanhof train stations. The shower was roomy, and had lots of strong flow. There was also a big window with internal blinds dividing the bathroom from the rest of the room, so that was a bit unexpected (but lets natural light in). The desk staff were among the most helpful and friendly we've ever encountered, which is what brings this review up from where it would have been otherwise.
The room smelled musty and felt overly humid. Leaving the window open for 24 hours went a long way to alleviating this problem. Despite this being a "no smoking" hotel, we still smelled cigarette smoke in the halls and the lobby.
We were "upgraded" to a "quiet" room that "didn't face the main street", but it was still SO noisy that we could barely sleep. The street is so busy that you'll still hear lots of traffic and "drunk people" noise - constantly. There is no air conditioning, so you have little choice but to open the window to cool things down in the evening.
There is also an issue with people parking their cars in the small street right off of Bayerstrasse (and right next to our room's windows) and blaring their booming car stereos at all hours of the night. The desk staff said that the police always "chase them off" when they call, so just let them know and they'd phone the police for us.
The walls are so thin that you can easily hear your neighbors. We sadly had neighbors who started blaring their music at approximately 10:00 p.m. all the way through to 8:00 a.m. most every night we were there. They spoke Arabian, and nobody at the hotel desk did, so there was really nothing that could be or was done to stop it (the front desk called them, but the music still went on and on). I don't fault the hotel staff for this, just the construction of the hotel being so thin.
The television was inside of the mirror enclosure, which makes for a nice look, but is a really bad idea in practice. There are no sound holes for the audio to get through, and they have the volume limited (apparently, in an attempt to minimize disturbance to neighbors), so it is very hard to hear, and the reflections off of the mirrored facade make it difficult to view.
I cannot recommend Hotel Bayer's, and definitely will not be staying here when I'm next in Munich. read more
