This hotel (if you can call it that) is the grossest lodging I've ever entered. The lobby and rooms are ugly and unsanitary, it doesn't have any of the amenities it claims to have, its rickety elevator seems dangerous, and patrons are treated like criminals, forced to fill out all this invasive paperwork and submit the key to the front desk every time they leave--and retrieve it when they come back. The staff is incredibly nasty and rude and has very little command of English. And checkout is at 10:30am, wayyyy earlier than other hotels. Avoid this hotel if you can help it. Last night, as a movie made reference to The Shining, my hubby said, "look it's our hotel, the Shining hotel." Now Hotel Aida bears little resemblance to the spooky Overlook but I suppose there is a similar vibe. Don't get me wrong: we slept fine with no supernatural goings-on. Maybe it's the old facility, sketchy neighborhood, or other off-ness. We booked Hotel Aida on Bookings.com to coincide with our Cirque du Soleil date. Hotel rooms in San Francisco can be ridiculously pricey. I couldn't take the day off from work the following morning so I knew we needed a place to crash after the show. I wanted to be close to BART and I wanted economical. You get what you pay for. The old man running the front desk in the evening was sweet if slightly slow moving. The first room we were assigned had not been cleaned so we got a different room. The second room was clean and cozy. The shared toilets are located at the end of the hallway with the shared shower located at the far end of the hall. Because a fellow patron vomited in the rickety elevator, we had to take the stairs to and from our room. The stairway light was not on nor could we find the switch so we took our chances and safely made it to our location each time. I did enjoy the kitschy decor in the lobby: vintage jukeboxes, odd knicknacks. I especially liked the jazz playing in the hotel. It made me feel like I was on a Twin Peaks episode and that it is never a bad thing to me. read more

Pictures online looked better than actual place. We chose this place because it was cheap BUT DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT!! When you walk in, there's this creepy vibe you get from this over a century building. They make sure that you give the front desk your room key before you leave the building. The elevator was very old and shaky. For the room, its pretty small and fitted just two twin beds. We have to share a toilet with the whole floor AND there's no sink in the bathrooms so after you're done, you have to walk back to your room to wash your hands. The shower is also very tiny, so we didn't end up showering. The hallway lights are very dim, so it was very scary to walk out to pee at night. For the beds, it didn't seem like it was clean. The pillows still had hair on them and it was just dirty to the point I have to put something on top to sleep. I read other reviews saying that there were bedbugs so I didn't use their blankets. For the tv, it did not work at all. This hotel is located in a busy street, so there's a lot of noise at night when you sleep. Also, lots of homeless people and druggies around this place. Everything was very clean and you figure out very quickly that you actually like how the sink is separate from bathroom when you are staying with multiple people. If I could give them zero star I swear on everything I would. First of all, the room description is wrong. The bathroom is a shared for the entire floor. In addition, the bathroom is soooooo small. They lied about the room description and tried to charge us a visitor,'s fee. We booked two room and when the people the second room came they said 25 per guest. At that time there was two of us in one room and the 3 guys that we book the other room for, they tried to charge 25 dollar for each of them though one of their names is literally on the booking list. Okay, so the reviews on here made me nervous. I got a late start in booking a room for the weekend of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. This was one of the only cheaper options left with open rooms.Due to these reviews, I almost backed out, but went ahead and risked it. And man, was I relieved. I stayed for three nights (arrived on Friday, checked out Monday). The whole stay went smoothly. Well, there is a club nearby that had some loud music the first two nights, but oddly, it didn't effect my sleeping (and I'm a difficult sleeper). Saturday morning, there was someone yelling drunkenly somewhere which woke me up, but that's it. Everything else went fine (I should note the TV channel selection was pretty limited). The room was great for the price. Smallish? Sure, but I just needed a place to sleep not live. Some people said they don't clean the room daily, but I had a very difficult problem. They came every day even with the "Do Not Disturb" sign out! The decor looks a little aged, definitely, but it feels more charming than gross. The old elevator is wonderful (awesome cheesy music playing and not typical "elevator music" crap). The workers at the desk weren't totally bubbly and energetic, but very pleasant. Other than that one morning drunk, the place wasn't noisy at all. I never tried the internet in my room. They were fixing it the day we arrived. But they had a computer in the lobby which I used and had perfect internet connection. As far as the neighborhood... Look. If you are familiar with urban neighborhoods, that's all it is. The comments are way exaggerated. Yes, news flash, there are quite a few homeless people in San Francisco. Nothing scary or intimidating at all, unless you have been very sheltered. Plus, you are right by the BART and MUNI station, making it a very convenient location. Trust me, not the others. If you are someone looking for a simpler, cheaper place to stay and aren't frightened by standard urban environments... you will be perfectly happy here. read more

Worst hotel experience of my life. Hotel is old & dirty. My reservation was for a PRIVATE bathroom but the manager had booked me for a "shared bathroom". The "shared" restroom was dirty and the size of an airplane bathroom. The shower is not even connected and is just as small & dirty. I spent two hours arguing with the management about my reservation and at one point the manager accused me of changing my reservation. How can I even do that?? When it was finally resolved the room with the "private bathroom" was not any bigger or cleaner but at least it was a private bathroom... The hotel REQUIRES that you drop your key off each time you exit the building but they have signs all over saying they are not liable for lost/ stolen items. How can I be liable for my possessions if I am not even permitted to hold on to my key when I am not there?? Not to mention it is in the tenderloin so it is not the safest neighborhood. Not only would I never stay here again, I really think this hotel should be closed and renovated. There have been 0 upgrades probably since opening and this include the bedding! So gross. One star because I have to and because Elsa at the front desk was very nice. Furthermore, there is construction going on next store and they were banging on pipes and making loud noises until 11:45PM and started again at 8AM.... made my bad experience, WORST! read more

okay, it's not the best place, but if you're going to pride week... I mean, it's a central location, it's not SOOO bad. I give it 2.5 stars for what it is. The area is near the civic center, and is a bit shady. But when in San Francisco, you always wander in and out of the shady areas. Dotties (the best breakfast joint) is just 4 blocks up on Jones, the street is in a similar neighborhood... and people wait in line for that place. The Orpheum theatre, Civic Center, UN Plaza and Asian Art museum are all within 1-2 blocks; San Francisco Center and Union Square are about a 10-15 minute walk away. I wouldnt recommend this place for the faint of heart, or singles... maybe a guy... but for groups, it's cool. Book together in the same hotel. If you pay $15 more you get a window facing market. If you are unlucky, you get a room that shares a wall with the theatre next door. (It'll make you have dreams... ) Even better, there was a resident that played techno at 8am!! But maybe that was just for pride week. It's functional. Yes, there is a lobby with someone behind a glass enclosure, and a few strays have wondered in trying to use the facilities... but the desk guy is pretty quick to shoo them away. The carpets are stained, and there is a bit of a mild "stale" odor in the place, but for the lowest rates in SF, I think alot of people would find it quite functional! There are some shared shower facilities (a single use room with a locking door) and bathrooms on each floor. Some rooms have their own toilets and sinks. Some have a toilet, sink and shower. There's a guest policy. "No Guests" or $30 addt... and sometimes the front desk guy will keep asking if you have a room there, but we were able to get people up and out w/out issue, but the guests didnt stay the nite. They didnt clean the rooms while we were there (make our beds, etc...) but for the price, the central location... it's not the worst place in the world. read more

This is probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The front desk watches guests like HAWKS. I'm not sure how many workers there are, but they literally see everyone who comes in and out of the hotel. We got a room with a SHARED shower- The shower is down the hall and there's only the shower in the closet sized room. There is a random sink in the room with no toilet. The toilet is in the hallway as well and the small closet sized room only fits the toilet. Yikes. read more

THINK TWICE BEFORE U BOOK THE PLACE! To be honest the pictures basically reveal how outdated they are from looking at the setting and the TV in the photos... If you are here for a spooky experience you have chosen the right place. There is no problem with old fashion style however when you can clearly feel the elevator is cranky and light is dim, it just turns to something you would not want to experience. Shower and toilets are shared, which the spaces are super small and kinda creepy when you really need to use it at mid of the night when you see yourself standing in "the shining-like" hotel setting. We were scared of the bed bugs but luckily seems like we didn't got bitten so far. TV channels are not working at all... it's more scary when you are in a room that is not bright with all grey-striped TV display. The people around the hotel seem quite scary too, even though the overall convenience of the area isn't that bad. Pro is the free donut in the morning (7-9) and the price just basically tells how much quality you can expect in Bay Area. It's not a 5 star hotel, but I gave it 5 stars because it's a nice hotel with friendly staff at the desk, clean lobby with old juke boxes on display and interesting furniture in public spaces. Clean small rooms. Staff told me all rooms now have bathrooms in each room. Front desk is staffed 24 hours a day. Feels very secure. Room key must be left at the front desk. No parking but plenty of parking garages nearby and you can load/unload in a large loading zone right in front of the hotel. read more

Hotel Aida is a taste of the real San Francisco. Its lobby is full of historical artefacts, from twin ten-foot wrought iron chandeliers to old jukeboxes to vending machines with glass bottle cokes. The rooms are large and comfortable, each floor has its own lobby, the staff are wonderfully nice and very accommodating. It's very affordable, well-protected, and you won't get a better deal for your dollar. It's also within a walking distance of nearly everything in central San Fransisco, and plenty of shops and delicious food nearby. When I return to San Francisco, I will be staying here! read more

The hotel is exactly as it is described/marketed. Nothing more, nothing less. A place you can stay for a hostel price with no bunking. Bathrooms are shared. Honestly, it was only one of two I could find with private rooms, cheap. $85 a night, even on a holiday weekend. I looked at 100''s of ads/sites and this was the best deal in town. Are there ways they can make this place a bit better? Sure, of course! I will get to that in a minute. However, honestly, the owners probably have no incentive to do so. They are offering a product, at a truthful description, at a great price. That is what you will get. The reviews are all over the place on here, Google, Trip Advisor, and airline sites. In mine I will address the main discussion points I read in many online reviews. My guess is that some people have never stayed at an older/historical building before. Still others might want a hotel vacation. If the later is you, this is NOT the hotel for you. SF has tons of fancier hotels near the Wharf or Union Square. Try a major chain if you want room service and hotel lounging. This hotel is for folks who just need to crash after a great day spending all the money they saved on the room. So here are my comments and opinions on the major elements of Aida Plaza. 1. The shower and bathrooms are water closets, how the term was invented. Very small. I was lucky to score a room right across from them so the walk to the bathroom was shorter than the one in my home. This was not an issue. You just have to plan a little bit for your shower. Both facilities are very old, need hooks, and were always clean. On 5 the curtain had some mold on it but the rest of the shower was spotless. They really need to add hook units or some adhesive hooks. There is nowhere to hang your clean towel, clean clothes or even a place for your dirty clothes/bathrobe. There is only the doorknob. That is a simple thing they could do. I managed just fine though. The toilet needs a small shelf, hooks for keys, a gel bottle, or one of those anti bacterial soap dispensers. It seems the biggest complaint was not having a sink in the same closet for the doorknob germs. So if you are paranoid about that, bring a washcloth or wet wipes with you to open and close the door. 2. The decor is your great grandma's attic. Come prepared to laugh at the kitzchy and or Chotchkies in the lobby, where everything is broken and or not allowed to be used. The rose sofa upholstery on the elevator walls is hilarious. 3. The room is a typical city room in a non renovated historical building. I read a lot of, "too small" comments. I disagree. I myself found the room larger than some of the older rooms I have stayed at in NYC, Chicago, and LA. Historic hotels are old and the rooms are small. Over the years we have become spoiled and larger. Ha! The room is sparse with only a bed, a TV, a dresser, a stand, lamp and a sink. There is a closet too. The curtains are awful and need to be replaced. Yes the room is dumpy but I could care less. I did not come to stare at the walls of my hotel room for two days. 4. Bedbugs-- all hotels have them or had them. It is a common occurrence these days that bedbugs are in most public places. You need to be very vigilant about them when you travel. You should always do a very thorough Bed Bug check in any hotel you stay at. Check Google for a video that tells you how to do that. I did a very thorough check of the entire room and did not find any evidence of bed bugs in my room. There are laws about bed bug infestations. 5. Breakfast- just donuts. I went out, and planned it as such. I appreciated the tea/coffee 24/7.I didn't expect food so the donuts were a nice treat. 6. Yes the elevator makes noise. It is old. It is a bit bouncy. They tend to do that. 7. Key policy/visitor fee- Yes, very weird but they kept my key safe for me. I let my friend up to use one of the bathrooms. We did not pay a visitor fee. Frankly I don't get it at all and neither does he. (Local) 8. The dresser has an obscene message carved into it. I suggest painting it, chiseling it off, or replacing the piece. Another guest added another word after to make it less offensive. Very funny! 9. Location- perfect! Buses, Muni and Bart are all within a few feet. Near Civic Center and Orpheum for Hamilton fans. 10. Homeless people- I walked all day and yes early morning and at night. There are all types of folks walking around. "Whatever!" Insert eye roll here. I am not afraid of the less fortunate. In fact, I had some good conversations with a few of them and fed my leftovers to them. One man helped me to buy my Bart ticket and was extremely polite. If you are bothered by that stay elsewhere. I myself refuse to live like that. 11. I think they have no heat.I was cold. No thermostat that I could find. 12. My neighbors were noisy. 13. Very friendly staff! Conclusion-under three day stay, perfect and cheap. More might prove difficult unless you hostel often. read more

Let's start with the good: - it's very economical (which is part of the problem) - it's very well located The bad: - I am not sure how this specific lodge qualifies as hotel. Man, I am not even sure it qualifies as an inn. - Most rooms do not have bathroom, it is shared with the rest of the guests. See previous bullet point. - it's very very old and not necessarily super clean. - You HAVE to leave the keys every time you leave the hotel, which is a first for me in a 'hotel'. - the worst part (at least for me): they tell you they DO NOT are responsible for any jewels or otherwise valuable objects 'lost' in their premises. In other words, you leave the key of your room and if, for whatever reason, some of your possessions 'disappear' is on you, not them. - No AC, and the heating is not central. - Not sure how faulty they are on this but the entrance of the hotel stinks of urine. I understand San Francisco is very expensive but this 'hotel' is an insult to visitors. The only reason why I didn't forgo my stay is because I don't have extra hundreds of dollars laying around. If you're looking for a place with a "murder hotel" vibe than look no further than Hotel Aida. From the dated dusty decor, rooms reeking of bleach, and the elevator that tries to smash you or ominously threatens to fall twice before the doors open on your floor to the friendly (maybe too friendly???) staff I loved every minute of it. I felt like I was in a horror movie. Everything in the reviews are true but when they all come together like this it's so bad its awesome. So either you can focus on all the negatives and hate it or you can love all the colorful flaws and laugh the entire time like my friends and I did. One thing I have to say is that Aida was a life saver for my business trip. We booked last minute. When I arrived, as a single traveling woman, I was scared. The neighborhood around the hotel is fairly scary. However, I stayed for 4 nights and found it to be cozy. This is not a world class hotel, but you get what you pay for. They had free coffee and every morning they brought donuts. Very sweet. The staff quickly learned my name and was very pleasant. If you are needing first class accommodations, this may not be for you. Especially if you choose the shared bathroom option which was at first rather alarming to me. But, I wouldn't mind staying here again should I need the accommodation in this area. I would rate it a 5star based on the cost per amenities. read more

Something is going on in those sheets but they need to wash them or get new bed sheets. And the wifi sucks ass. No hotel parking. Have to park in the parking lot 2 blocks away with an extra 40$ for overnight.. and be careful parking on mission, car break ins will happen. It... has character. I came here looking for a roof over my head during a quick solo visit and it did not disappoint. The decor is cool, sort of garage sale kitschy and the rooms are clean. Towels are small and thin but the bedding was fine. The neighborhood is central: very close to the financial district and about two blocks away from the BART/Muni. There are TONS of homeless people but they are pretty docile. I never got hassled for money and I am for some reason a magnet for that sort of thing. My only real issue is the key policy. The given explanation was "security" but I understand its real purpose - to let the front desk see if you have any visitors so they can assess the $30 visitor fee before letting you upstairs. That's fine and dandy but one of the front desk people would not check IDs or match names before giving the key out. All you had to do was walk up and say a room number and boom, free key. Overall it's a good place for the money but I would not bring the proverbial wife and kids here. read more

My son and I stayed at this hotel 3 nights. The hotel is very outdated and a little spooky, but we were happy to upgrade so we could have a private bathroom for $35 per night. It was totally worth it, as we didn't really want to share bathroom. The hotel offers free wifi, but it was very slow in my room, so I ended up just using my data. The room it self was very small with a funny smell, but we did get fresh towels and a made up bed everyday. Location was good, and there are good places to eat breakfast around (check dotties true blue cafe, coffee mazarine, and La cuisine cafe). The union square mall is very close to the hotel. read more

I love coming here! Everyone's so friendly and I always have a great time! The service is wonderful! The people working here are really nice and friendly. They give your free donuts from 7am-9am and free water/coffee/tea at anytime you'd like. The day of Pride is when we checked out and they kindly held our luggage for us at no cost. They let us come and use the restrooms even though we've already checked out. This may seem standard but during Pride weekend it gets busy and they have a lot of random people walking in off the streets. I have always liked the owner and the historic background behind the Aida Hotel. The location is phenomenal! I come here for Pride every year and the parade is right outside your door! You can watch from the fire escape or even from your bedroom window. It's in the heart of SF so there is plenty to do and right near the Bart and Muni. It's super easy to move around and very convenient. My friend flew from LA and took Bart from SFO to the civic center. BOOM! Literally right there once you get off. Ladies and Gents... This is a Hostel. That means you are sharing some of your space. In this case, you get your own room with a sink inside. The toilet and shower are completely communal. The toilet is literally a toilet, there's no sink. The shower is literally just a shower. Bring your shower shoes!! Once you get over this you will see how awesome Aida is and all it has to offer. The only complaint I have is that it's a tad bit weird to leave your key every time you leave the hotel. Basically they don't want you to lose your key when you're out. Before you leave, you turn your key in at the front desk and get it back when you check back in. There's always someone working and I've never had a problem with this, it just seems a little strange. read more

I stayed at the Aida Hotel when two of my best girlfriends came into town. We thought it would be fun to have a room together, so that when we hit the town we could have a comfy place to crash that was central to all the goodness SF has to offer. Central is was -- and comfy? - it was alright. The downsides to the hotel continued to amount throughout our two night stay. Sure, it was sleazy and cheap, as to be expected for the the rate, but I quickly became convinced that I was going to die in the carpet-covered elevator -- not to mention that I'd leave with some vague and incurable rash/cough/bodily rattling illness. The linens, walls, and carpets were saturated with decades of cigarette smoke. Be warned - if sensitive bring allergy medication, or inhaler. The room itself was small, but not overly tiny. You're required to leave your key at the desk when you leave (no big deal), but the front desk also controls the temperature, which fluctuated wildly from freezing at night to oddly warm and humid when the air conditioning was flipped of the the morning. My very favorite, however, were the many signs adorning the walls: "No visitors allowed. If you have a visitor you must pay $30" The "no visitor" policy was likely intended to eliminate in-hotel prostitution, but the thirty dollar clause appeared to endorse the act as long as the hotel got its cut of the profit. "This hotel contains toxic chemicals that may be harmful to pregnant women." Seriously, this is happening? So Aida is full of asbestos/cigarette smoke/bleachmethgeneralhazardouschemicalsthatwillkillyourbaby etc...? Aside from basic life hazards, this hotel is located in the heart of the Tenderloin, which is neighborhood regarded for its seedy reputation -- it's a place where urine stains the sidewalks and curious odors cling to the fog that is alighted by the flickering lights of porno billboards. When I'm in San Francisco, I basically want to spend all my money on food, booze, and books. So this is where I'm going to stay. It's in the Tenderloin, yes, and EVERYTHING YOU HEARD ABOUT THE TENDERLOIN IS TRUE. Just kidding, it's only about half true. It's the city - deal with it. Who knows, maybe that t-shirt the crack head sells you will become your favorite souvenir, you never know. At any rate, split a suite with a private bath with two girl friends for Treasure Island weekend. Room is small but clean, a little hot, but comfortable and nice. Staff was great, except for the maid who kept busting in our room at 9:30 a.m. to give us towels and flush the toilet. Don't ask. It was noisy on Friday night - be warned, ghetto life starts early - but the rest of the time it was just the usual city noise. Close to BART and major bus lines, which is a total plus. And, best part of all - 10 a.m. check in, and they will store your bags for you after you check out. This hotel is for a certain kind of person. You will know if you are that kind of person. I know it may seem strange to give this place 5 stars but seriously when it is this bad it is so funny and strange that it is good again. Lets start by saying that it is absolutely ghetto fabulous! My friends and I met up here for my 30th birthday all of us came from different states and on a budget this is what we went with...We are all pretty sure that it was or is currently an undercover hostel - I mean seriously - there are bathrooms in the hallways and a shower room too! As we had 2 different rooms here is a run down... My room was nice-ish, VERY SMALL and there was nothing fancy about it, however ours was fancy enough to have a bathroom and a telephone (our friends room did not have a telephone but they did have a HUGE amount of plastic cups). If you like to have your room cleaned on a daily basis, it doesn't happen, even if you specifically request it from several different staff members...Ours was FINALLY cleaned the day before we left... Here is why it got 5 stars instead of one - These people don't give a damn!!!! Seriously we were bad guests, the ones everyone hates to have a room next too - unless your as cool as we are - Example: We were so drunk and loud at night, invited random people from the hotel....and the streets to come and party with us, yelled a LOT out our windows to people, went in and out of the building to "make friends" with the homeless/drunk/crackheads/hookers and pretty much anyone! (without placing blame or admitting anything) there may have been a large pizza thrown out the window to feed the homeless (like feeding the birds), and to help wash it down some drinks may have followed...ALLEGEDLY - did i mention the hallway party that we started with all of the foreigners from other rooms/street ect that we had...and that it WAS LOUD....well all of that and not NOTTTTT one complaint from anyone! so if you are looking for a place to have a birthdaypalooza like we did - this is the place to be! I booked this place online because the pictures and reviews all looked adorable. When I got there it was dingy and right next door to a huge strip club. It looked like the kind of place that rented by the hour. I decided to cancel since I had some points for a larger nearby chain I could use instead. When I called to cancel and requested a refund the manager refused to refund me and told me he was glad I wasn't coming because they were already full and then hung up on me. Blacking out; being forced to stumble through the foreign streets of SF at 4am, trying to find the hotel bcs. hotel parking is literally 2 blocks away; getting eye-boned by the "ladies of the night," who seemed to be getting off her shift at the "adult" club next door; tripping over empty bottles littering the streets; fighting off bums and ensuing into a screaming match w/ a hobo camped out and trolling around the front door; arguing with the lone hotel employee through his bulletproof glass, trying to get him to let us in; friends proceeding to yack attack in the sink, the toilet, shower, bed, and misc. containers around the room; top drunk friend pees in the corner of the room, then suddenly sprays you AND his girlfriend when you try to direct him to the bathroom, only before he knocks over the desk and TV....yep, just your "typical" birthday party night pour moi! -______- Sadly enough, that seems to also be just another typical day at the Hotel Aida...The conditions of the room lead me to believe that they have seen far worse...*shivers* Stained sheets, walls, and carpet Mildewy musk lingering through the air Non functioning, screeching A/C circulating hot air Dirty a$$ bathroom and amenities Rickety windows that require the jaws of life to open and close And I'm pretty convinced I saw a Cockamouse chillaxing and scurrying through our room!!! Being lulled to sleep by the screaming sirens and brawling bums only added to the ambiance and charm that is Hotel Aida. Early the next morning, we book it outta there, in our hungover daze, attempting to avoid the suspicious glares of the hotel employee and a potential ambush of the bums passed out in the front. The floral carpeted walls and maze-like floor plan kicked everything up a few notches, taking my hangover up to paranoid acid trip levels. Not fun! When we scale the Himalayas and get to the parking garage, we speed off and brace ourselves for any extra room fees incurred for thoroughly defiling the already ghettoliciously cringeworthy room. To our bafflement, we discover that no extra fees were charged. As previously stated, cleaning up barf, urine, and alcohol covered rooms is apparently just another day at the Aida Hotel. NEGATIVE 1 star for falling off the map, being off the charts and scales GHETTOOOOO. +2 stars for letting our belligerent drunken actions slide :D Hotel Aida? wow. this would be the last time I let my friend pick a hotel for SF. I would rather pass out in a drunken haze on the streets in the Mission district than stay at the Hotel Aida. Where does one begin when describing this place? Was it the homeless and drug addicts surrounding the place a turn off? -perhaps, but they're everywhere in SF Was it the bullet-proof glass that the hotel "attendant" sits behind in his dirty wife beater watching a grainy black and white tv while monitoring the closed circuit feeds? -Nah, I'll pretend it's like i'm staying at the gas station where the cashier stays in that stall. Was it the tiny, dirty bathroom and the dirty and stained (by who knows what) carpet and the towels so thin that they could paper-cut your ass? -That stuff is pretty damn nasty, but I guess I could put up with it if I need to stay a night and crash. WAAAAAAAAAAAIT a sec. I see all this AND I gotta pay for this sh*t?!! F*ck that. We basically checked out 30 mins after we checked in and scoped the place out. I've stayed at 2 star hotels before but never one this bad. save your 60 bucks and spend it on some drinks and tacos on Mission. You'll be full, drunk and sleeping better in the streets than in this joint. P.S. Its not the greatest location or greatest service but you get what you pay for. I stayed here 4 nights and had no problems like previously mentioned. The staff was very nice and helpful. My only recommendation....stay in a room with a bathroom. read more

I give this place 5 stars. 5 stars because this is totally what it's worth for what it is. It is old, shared bathrooms, and small. Those are the facts. With this it is lovely! The place was clean, location was so awesome for touring the city and being in the middle of all things, staff is so friendly, and it is very quaint. The area of town is a little rough and their are lots of homeless people in the area. That's what you get for a city and an inner city location. No surprises there. The hotel seemed very secure and safe. They lock the front doors at night and only open it to guests. You get coffee and one donut in the morning. Which we thought was so cute and old school and just fit the whole theme of the place well. This place is over 100 years old and the feel of the place still holds that in many areas. We loved it and will stay again. read more

Aida Hotel was acceptable for a *budget* hotel. We stayed here for $90/night in a room with a private bathroom. On Orbitz, other hotels in the area were similarly priced. For a hotel in a nicer neighborhood, you'll easily pay at least twice as much. This is San Francisco after all, sigh. The lobby reminded us of the Tower of Terror at Disneyland, and the hallways reminded us of The Shining, LOL. Initially, the room smelled a little odd, but that was resolved within minutes of opening a window. The sheets and towels were clean. Our shower had excellent water pressure. The bathroom sink was not the most functional. The free wifi was surprisingly fast. My husband and I used to live in the SF area, and we choose this place for its price and proximity to the BART and MUNI. Yes, there are lots of street people in the area, but it's nowhere near as bad as many of the reviews make it out to be. As long as you're smart (read: not wandering around alone at 3am looking like a lost tourist), you'll be just fine. read more

Damn, haters gonna hate. I'll admit, when I booked this hotel, after reading all the reviews I was concerned. But after staying here for 3 nights, I honestly thought this place was a decent hotel considering that it was one of the cheapest places I could book that was closest to the venue we were going to for the weekend and also the convenience of it being by tons of shopping, food, and public transportation. Yes, it's old but I kind of just saw it as part of it's own little quirky charm. The Asian woman at the front desk was so friendly and she remembered me every time I came in to grab my room key from the front desk. They even hold your luggage for you after you check out, incase you're in between flight or bus schedules and you want to go get breakfast. They provide free donuts in the morning, free coffee, and free tea. The toilet and the shower are in separate areas, down the hall, so no you don't get your own private bathroom, but I didn't really care! If you've ever been to college or dormed somewhere for school, then you've seen it all and it shouldn't really be that big of a deal. In fact, I thought the housekeeping kept the showers and toilets pretty well maintained and clean. I just wore some flip-flops in the shower, did my thing, and went on my merry way doing things I'd normally do plus more because staying at this hotel let me save a couple extra bucks. Neighborhood wise, yeah sure maybe it's kind of sketchy, but I never felt like I was in danger. There's some homeless people here and there and some cracked out people wandering about, but it's not that bad. You see that in any big city. I'd definitely stay again, especially if I'm on a budget. read more

I stayed at Hotel Aida this past weekend. I paid a total of $240ish for 3 nights - friday to monday - not bad for San Francisco. That is usually the price (if not more) for only one night at area hotels. So if you are not familiar with SF please know that the location on Market street can be very transient. You will see panhandlers, ne'er do wells, druggies, etc. You see this all up and down Market, SOMA, Tenderloin and more so near Civic Center. Its part of the city and has always been. However during this trip there were just a few and I didn't get asked for money at all. There is a closed adult theatre next to Hotel Aida and I am sure with it being closed there was no one loitering outside on the sidewalk. Now for the awesome price I did not expect the Ritz. It's a very old hotel. Rooms are small. That's SF. If you are not picky and just need a place to shower / sleep while you are running around this might work for you. Tasty Chinese restaurant next door, CVS Pharmacy across the street and it's right above the Civic Center Bart/Muni Station. No A/C (window in room opens), No Iron, No Hair Dryer in the room (you may need to ask front desk for that). Front desk is behind a security partition which is fine. They have someone one at the desk 24 hrs a day and they check and they question EVERYONE entering the building so it is more then secure. They also ask that guests hand over their rm key (not card, but an actual key) everytime they leave. I assume it's for safety reasons (so no one can make a copy?) It's was strange to do so but i got used to it. One thing i was very impressed with was the shower pressure. I've stayed in hotels from the Ritz to Motel 6's and this by far had the BEST water pressure. And nice hot water. I did get a room with it's own Shower and bathroom. It was much more convinent that way. I suggest going that route. No bed bugs in my room and maid service was prompt - again room is old. No alarm clock, no remote control, no flat screen TV and only about 8 channels, no radio/ipod doc (haha), small room, shower is about 3ftx3ft and no bath. I am 6'2 and 310 lbs but i could fit and made it work. :) All in all, If I wanted to save money and I am traveling alone - I might stay here again. I do go to San Francisco ALOT and have tried many hotels there. You have to be used to staying in all kinds of hotels and make it work - so Awesome price without the typical hotels amenities, you will save money and it was a secure building (inside). Awesome Shower. I suggest renting the room with shower and bathroom . The free wifi worked fine all weekend. I probably would not pay more then $100 a night here - then it probably would not be worth it unless all other hotels are charging more then $300 a night. read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I have traveled the world... been to europe, asia, and all over north america and this was the first hotel i had to check out without even staying the night. I can live in the back of a store with no shower for 4 days without complaints and this says something about my level of pickiness. Did not get refund but whatever it is seriously not worth the BED BUGS and feeling of being in the dingy little room with NO BATHROOM! I had to shower in the "communal" shower which was a closet size shower that is shared.. down the scary hall. (I DID NOT HAVE FLIP FLOPS PREPARED FOR THIS) The shower curtains were moldy and disgusting as well and I probably have gotten foot fungus from this shower. ALSO the area is horrendous, this is probably the WORST area in TENDERLOIN they LIE saying it is SOMA. Bums everywhere, i was even followed down an entire block by a crazy man yelling sexual profanities at me. Pleas keep in mind also I know this is SF and it is bum city but honestly if you don't want to feel like you will get raped walking down the street in broad day light don't stay here. This is a tourist trap because it is cheap... and their hotel website is nice looking which is totally not like real life. save yourself the grief and stress and STAY AWAY! read more

As far as hotels come, they offer the basic amenity. a place to sleep and rest your feet. I didn't expect much at $65 a night. It was a saturday night but there was almost no noise and the shared bathroom was clean as well as the shower. I kept my shoes on for the most part because, well, it's not exactly the cleanest of places but seriously, what do you expect? The towels were white which is better than most places and the place looked clean enough. I didn't go over the place with a black light but I'm sure I would have seen much more than I would have ever wanted to. The guy downstairs is nice enough to kick out the random hobos who wander in and there is even a small breakfast in the morning, if you like donuts and coffee/tea. All in all, stay here if you're not afraid of the random crazies and if you're short on cash. It's also in a prime area and I wandered around the civic center, UN plaza, and went to a few clubs at 2 in the morning. read more

I am currently staying here at Hotel Aida, and the only complaint I have is, I wish there were a room fan or air conditioner... The place is what I expected for the price, and it's clean. The hotel is literally steps away to the Bart... It's a great location, just infested with loony crack heads... I'm from LA so, I'm kinda used to the freaks... Anywhooooo, if you're short on cash, and aren't intimidated of some strange people, stay here. I was skeptical at first about this hotel. I seen the reviews a few days after I booked this hotel and it was too late to cancel for free. I read about bed bugs, about rooms smelling like pee, people being cold at night, etc etc. Well here's my review on it. The location of the parking structure wasn't the best. I've never been to a hotel where the parking isn't connected to the hotel. We also got there at 5 am and had to sleep in our car since check in time was at 1pm and woke up next to some homeless people shooting up heroin and fighting with each other. But back to the hotel part, when we finally got inside, the staff were really kind to us and cracked jokes and told us the rules. We respected the rules and agreed. When we got on the hotel, I won't lie, it was scary when it was going up but we only rode it once and decided to take the stairs. We were on the 2nd floor soo not too bad. We got the family suite which had a PRIVATE bathroom. The room was very spacious for us 4. I was thinking about the bed bug reviews on this place that I saw on them but I saw nothing, came home with NO bites like many people did. I took extra blankets since people said that it would be freezing at night. It was very warm in the rooms that I even used the thinner sheets they provided. I slept 9 1/2 hours and only woke up once to a strange noise, sounded like something banging pipes. Not very loud since I was able to sleep shortly after with it in the background. The rooms smelled perfectly fine. No pee smell! About the key situation, when you do leave to explore San Fran knowing you'll be coming back still, you had to leave your key with them, I honestly saw nothing strange about it, it was just one less thing I had to take care of! Out of my entire San Fran experience, the parking spot was what did bother me but other than that, would I come stay here again?? YES!! read more

Prices = cheap. Room = has a bed, sink, and a closet. That's about it. It's very basic. I felt like I needed a few showers afterwards... And I did NOT sleep overnight here. Noisy as fuck. Stinks of urine at the entrance, flies everywhere, creepy decor (not charming like in pics) the hairs on my neck stood up... I had a bad feeling. Hotel Aida is in Market street (that's why we all want to book it right?) but in the only area where there is not a nice way in or out. Do not even thing about bringing kids in here unless you want them to see HELL on earth (specially on busy holiday breaks). No joke... You are truly in the middle of the Tenderloin district, surrounded by tweakers, vomit and dirt. I am still trying to figure out this creepy hotel lobby but still smiling I told the guy behind a BULLET PROFF glass at the reception desk that I had a reservation. He kind of screams at me: "Fill in the paper card (old school?) with all your information, ID, address, also all the information for the other person (my partner) that is staying with you and the room key will have to be returned to the front desk every time". What? As I was filling in the old paper card with my details on it, I asked if the room was charged for already by Hotels.com and another guy in a greasy tank top comes from nowhere yelling at me: "That is for the reservation only. YOU need to pay the $167 for the room right now... " Unusual, but he was right, they didn't pre-charge like most hotel.com places. I excused myself to talk on the phone to my partner (he was still trying to find parking) and looked around for clues, after all I do work in hospitality... Dirty corners, old sheets in piles, dubious characters, the horrible smell, the bad creepy feeling... Walk out! I heard on my mind! For real... My entire body and mind was screaming to get out of that hostel horror movie lobby... I almost trip myself out of the door but my partner and I found a last minute room (same price) by the airport. A $25 Uber ride if you want to go out at night car free but totally worth the peace of mind. Now I have read the other bad reviews: bed bugs, appearance of being ok but filthy. Something out of the Shining movie! At first the pictures fooled me too but I am glad I that got out of there before spending the night... I think that I was listening to the pour unfortunate souls of the murdered guests that inhabit the lobby of the hotel... GET OUT! They told me.. He he, I am glad that I can laugh about it... This place should be demolished and should not be on Hotels.com I made a full complaint. read more
