We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Below are my thoughts about the hotel: Location: Excellent location, right next to the Atocha Train Station. It was easy to go anywhere in Madrid and was nice to depart to Barcelona from this Station. It was very convenient and saved us time as we did not need to go to the airport and go through all the hassles of getting to the airport. It is within walking distance of El Retiro Park. There are several restaurants near by so you can try good local food. I did stay in another AC Hotel in Barcelona, right outside the Sants Station which coupled with my stay at this hotel made my trip very easy. Check In/Out - It was fast. No issues. Customer Service - Excellent. Everyone was very helpful. They recommended me different places where we can go and more. This is the most important thing for a hotel. Room - Our room had everything we needed and it was very comfortable and practical. Our room was an upgrade. Room was nice and clean. Internet - Fast and no issues during our stay. Premises - Nice premises (modern) although I did not use the hotel services. Area - We felt secured. Overall I was very pleased with my stayed at this location and I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are in Madrid.

Very chic, modern hotel. Stayed here for a total of 6 nights (4 nights on the front end of my trip to Madrid and 2 nights on the back end). The front desk is very friendly, helpful and available when needed for information and room service, which was also prompt. Without asking, they automatically provided an upgrade to a suite for the first 4 nights just because I was a Marriott Rewards member. That room had a large terrace and a decent view. On the return trip to Madrid (second stay), they banished me to the separate annex on the first floor, which would not have been so bad except for that part of the hotel being colder than gazpacho. Either they were trying to cut back on expenses or else the heat wasn't working at all. A short 5 minute walk to the train station, it's pretty tough to the hotel's location. As for breakfast, though good, it's the same thing every day. No change whatsoever. Also, the staff will be all over you for your room number, so make sure you book the breakfast rate, otherwise it's 15€ out of pocket per person. The breakfast rate should only add about 10€ to your bill. Internet worked just fine, and the code they give you should remain valid for the duration of your stay without having to re-connect every day. The gym is pretty sad. Only two exercise bikes and one treadmill, but there's a TV, plenty of towels and open space to do yoga, stretches or aerobics, and a fridge full of water. Side note: favorite feature of the room was the shower. Multiple heads, and see through, if that doesn't bother you.

We stayed here for one night on my Marriott points. 20,000 points per night! King bedroom located in the 2nd building, reachable by walking through the garden. Modern, trendy & a taste of simplicity in a rather shady area of town. Like the convenience factor since it's so close to the Atocha Renfe train station & the Metro station. Lobby staff understood English well & was very straight to the point. Free wifi only in the main lobby. You need to pay 12€ euro for 24 wifi access in the rooms. Breakfast costs 14€ per person. Pretty pricey. We like that this hotel was convenient to public transit as we will be taking the public transit to the airport the next day. Shower was cool - you'll have to see it yourself!

This is one weird hotel...defined in my mind almost entirely by the shower, for reasons that will become clear enough. First, the good: The staff are kind, and very forgiving of lousy or non-existent Spanish. The rooms (save the showers), are well appointed and relatively comfortable. The location is not bad. And then there is just about everything else. First, unlike other hotels in the price range, breakfast and in-room wi-fi are not included. The added cost on these items was 15 and 12 euro per day, respectively. The price of the room was already a bit high...50% higher than the AC Valencia (see my other review) which included both free of charge. Most of the rooms are not in the main building. To get to them you have to go down a floor in an elevator, walk through the main building, leave the building and walk through a garden (for lack of a better term) which sits between the two buildings, then into the second building and up another elevator to the rooms. This wouldn't be much of an issue, but if you choose not to be gouged for 12 euro on the in-room wi-fi you have to head back to the lobby every time you need to log on. The circuitous route to grandma's house gets irritating when you have to make the trek every hour to get work email from another continent. So it goes. The real shame of this hotel is the shower...which is literally a glass cube sitting in the middle of the room. I was never so glad in my life not to be sharing a room. Even so, I came to understand those poor, unfortunate strippers I encountered in Baltimore who were dancing up a storm in a similar cube, although there were three of them, and their cube was being pulled by a pickup truck. A little more on the shower then. It is capable of ice cold and scalding hot showers. Anything in the middle...not so much. I wish you all well with this. I opted for ice cold. It hurt, but none of my skin was removed. Finally, the soap they give you is shaped like a golf ball. I suspect someone thought this was "quirky" or "fun," but it's really just stupid. Like bananas and traffic lights, soap has a shape. That shape is not round. In the end, I guess what I am telling you is that the AC, while not awful, is not wonderful either. Keep looking. If only for a shower, you know, in the bathroom where it belongs.

Beware lobby thieves ! Upon checking in early morning (~9) purse was stolen right in hotel lobby. Basically well dressed couple come in and asks you were breakfast place is , while another two comes and takes belongings. Another guest saw entire incident and tried to chase couple to no avail. When telling front desk incident, first comment was that they could not help. Something must not have translated well for once they realized what happened, they called police so we could give verbal report over phone, then they proceeded to call all the 800 numbers for us to cancel credit, bank, wireless service. This took over an hour and they even looked for phone numbers on internet for us. When we asked if this happened before, the person said sometimes on weekends. We knew Madrid had pickpockets etc but did not expect it to happen in lobby. After this happened to us, we could not help but notice how many other guest left bags, backpacks etc open in lobby since free wifi only in lobby. As for room itself: we were in second building. It was not a big deal to go down one floor to get to other building. From what we gathered, superior rooms in main building and normal rooms in other. Basic but functional room in minimalistic modern design. Yes, clear shower but it fogs up and not a big deal. Not crazy about the golf ball shaped soap or metal shower floor but appreciated the rain shower head at end of day. Toilet is separated and behind colored glass so nothing is seen. We were on high floor at end of hall to avoid noise but you could definitely hear your neighbors doors open and close. They need to put WD 40 or check the hinges. As a rewards member you get free wifi in room but no free breakfast or room upgrade. no coffee maker in room or clock. Even though floors are non smoking we could smell neighbor's who decided to smoke one evening. We called front desk to complain and that's how we found out entire floor non smoking. They said they would send someone but we didn't hear anyone walk the hall (remember you can hear neighbors in hall). Okay location with easy access to Atocha and buses on Paseo Delicias but after the worse start to stay and noise / smoke factor not sure we would not recommend.

Like most European hotels, you have limited control over the thermostat. When the heat is on, you aren't able to switch to a/c. As someone who prefers a cooler room temp, this can be solved by turning off the heat and opening the window. The property has a nice gym and there is a bar/restaurant in the lobby. With the WiFi, it is a nice place to have a drink and work in the evening. NH is part of Minor hotel group, and they have a solid rewards program, particularly if you live in Europe. I have used my points to pay for drinks and snacks, and will use them one day to book a hotel when planning a European vacation. As a special touch, the staff always leaves a welcome note and a farewell note. Such a thoughtful bit of customer service!

The hairdryer was on the heavy side. They should have a newer one that is much lighter. They had slippers in the room which I loved, and also a light that you just touch the top and it gave you really good light. The breakfast was better than most. I love fruit and yogurt and some of the breads were really good. Lots to choose from. They have a small bar And we ended up having gin and tonic's 2 nights. They were made really well and we got snacks with them.. We were close to numerous restaurants and expensive shops.

Rooms are cleaned daily and a chocolate at your bedside at night. They provide slippers and a bathrobe too. And they give you a few beautiful, blue glass bottles of water daily! Your choice of scrambled, hard boiled, sunny side up eggs, bacon, sausages, cheeses, cured iberico ham and sausages, turkey, smoked salmon, variety of fruit, salad, cold cereal, juices, bread, some gluten free baked goods, croissants/pastries. The front desk is helpful and accommodating. We'd like to thank Carmen who has been great at recommending great dining spots (Casa Dani and Cadaques)! They also have a van outside that can drive you to nearby attractions if it's available. You can't reserve it but if it's there, the driver is at your disposal. We were able to grab the van for the Royal Palace, which would have been a 40 minute walk. The van was available around 11:30 am and noon on another day. Most other times, it's been gone. But so glad it was there on the day we needed it! Many attractions are about 20-40 minutes by walking. The hotel is close enough to tourist spots, but far enough from crowds. The area around is high-end like Beverly Hills with LV, Gucci, Cartier, etc just up the block. There is also a department store, El Corte Inglés in the same direction as well. The front desk has 10% off discount cards if you tell them you will be shopping in that department store. There are a few drawbacks. The room was tiny. Bathtub may not be comfortable for all as it was very narrow even for a normal sized person. But I think those are the only things I felt it was lacking. And maybe if you wanted to be closer to the center of town, you may not want to be this far. There are a few metro stations for your convenience if you don't like long walks. But we were fine with walking most of the time. Thankful for their services and their warm and kind hospitality. It made our trip a memorable one!
