It's a bit of a drive to this natural wonder but this beach is like no other that I've visited. In a certain spot (look for thee big rocks in the surf), you take a shovel(rentals are available or bring your own) and dig down to form a pool. Since there is a natural geothermal hot stream running in places below the sand, you can create your own mini hot tub in the sand. Now the water will only be a few inches deep and you have to use care in selecting a spot and it may take a bit of trial and error to find a spot that's hot but not too hot, it's a crazy experience to try in NZ. Amazing beach, rain or shine! Really cool experience. Let me blow your mind with some tips: **Do I need a shovel?**: Yes but you can rent a shovel for $5 at the cafe/store in front of the beach and dig yourself a jacuzzi from sand. **Where is the best jacuzzi spot?**: you can feel pretty quickly how hot the water is going to be in spot you pick. If you start digging even a little and don't feel warm to hot water, move over a bit and dig in another spot. There's no specific area that's more hot than another from what I experienced, it's a little all over the place. **When do I come?**: Ideally come 2 hours before low tide (depends on the day - look at this website for daily schedules: https://www.thecoromandel.com/weather-and-tides) **Where do I park?**: Parking can be found close to the Google location of the beach. You can pay for parking closest to the beach and it's a few dollars per hour. Or there is a free car park nearby and you walk 5-10 minutes. read more
