We stayed at Hotel Colombier for a little over a week while visiting family and Christmas markets…read morein Alsace, and to cut to the chase, it was wonderful.
The hotel is located centrally in Obernai and in close proximity to the Christmas markets. It was incredibly convenient to walk around downtown Obernai. Le Colombier also had a parking garage, which we never ended up needing (plenty of free public parking), but I understand that this is a rarity for these parts.
The vibe of the hotel is modern, with bright red accent colors and modern sculpture in the lobby. It was also beautifully decorated for Christmas. And the rooms are also modern with updated furniture, fixture, and decor. At some hotels in France, I've noticed that there can be a disparity between how the lobby looks and the rooms themselves. That was absolutely not the case here.
The room itself was surprisingly spacious for France, with a large comfy bed and one of the largest bathrooms I've ever encountered on my stays here. There was a mini fridge, stocked with items, plenty of space to hang your clothing and to place your suitcases. There is also an in room nespresso machine, which we used on more than one occasion.
The breakfast is wonderful. It was 18 euro per person, and it was absolutely worth it. There were so many options - baguette, croissant, chocolate croissants, and other pastries. They also had a number of Alsatian specialties - Maenele, pretzels, gingerbread, and kogelhopf. In addition they had a variety of meats, fruits, cereal, cheeses, and yogurts, as well as some hot food options like scrambled eggs and bacon.
The service was friendly and excellent. As an example, when I got flowers from my husband, while they brought out a vase I could use to put the flowers in during my stay.
This hotel was perfect for our Alsatian holiday, and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone visiting the area.
