Not really THE place of my dreams, but the Dream Hostel in Tampere is indeed a place for a pleasant…read morestay. It is surprisingly clean even though there are just a small number of bathrooms and showers and attracts young backpackers and families with kids alike. Do not worry: it quiets down at midnight so you will get some good nights sleep. My female 4-bed-dormitory was spacious and nicely designed with a church on the wall and wooden bunk beds. Just the sleep comfort was of a kind I would not like to have at home - no slatted frame, but a wood panel underneath a soft mattress ... well, sleeping late is seldom an option when travelling ;O). The rate only includes linen, no towel (2 € for rent) and no breakfast (enough space for your food in the hostel´s fridges + supermarket at shopping centre close by). Kind of a letdown: the usage of the Internet PC is 1 € for 30 minutes! Are you kidding??? So many hostels offer free Internet AND breakfast for less than 28 € dorm rate. But overall a cool place quite close to Tampere´s bus and train station, a lovely park called Sorsapuisto (with lots of chicken and peacocks) as well as its famous and beautiful Tampere Cathedral. In addition, you can get to a number of nice cafés and restaurants within 10 to 15 minutes walking. An enjoyable stay in Tampere will not remain only a dream.

I came to this hostel with no expectations other than to spend the night and push on to Estonia, Tallinn. But I'm pleasantly surprised...both by this hostel and the city of Tampere. Gorgeous! Friendly and very accommodating folks they are and sometimes flirtatious...but all for good fun :) The hostel is standard fare and prices decent, but if you've just been put through the run on the mill wallet emptying affair that is Norway, this is a welcome change. My 15 Euros got me 5 beers vs 1 in Norway...Win!

This hotel was.. interesting. I have 2 different reviews in 1. One for those who are familiar with…read morethe chain and others who are just looking to book a hotel and this option popped up. For those of you that are familiar with the chain. It did what it's supposed to do overall. I did have a bit of a hiccup when I went to enter my code and it didn't work. Luckily I was with someone who had a local phone and was able to dial their helpdesk. If not for that I guess I would have been out of luck since there is only a phone available once you get inside the building. The good side: It's centrally located and was so easy to get to from the train station and popular bars and restaurant. Cool thing is I had the family room and definitely see how you could fit in multiple people with those pullout chairs. The price was extremely reasonable vs other hotel options. The WiFi was strong and consistent for my entire stay. For those who have not stayed at an Omena. Think long and hard about what you need in a hotel. This is one step above a hostel. Perhaps I failed to read the large or fine print about this chain, so pay attention. This hotel offers no front desk presence or staff onsite. They will email you a code about 1 hour prior to check in so this is not viable if you are not traveling with an active phone. Once you have the code, in general it should be seemless. You type it in at every door including your room door and gain entrance. It didn't work that way for me during my first entrance. The helpdesk ultimately needed to reset my code. I found the halls to be extremely dark, the elevator to be cryptic and the shattered glass of the doorway only enhanced these feelings. Are you used to adjusting the room temperature to your own comfort level?...sorry, not at the Omena. Have a question for them?...the sign in the room says you can call and the fee will be 0.79 euros per minute. Really?!? This is a bit outrageous to me considering this will be an international call for me (there is no phone in the room so keep your cell phone handy). There definitely are no food options onsite though I noticed they had signs up advising of a local cafe to consider for breakfast. In summation, perhaps I would stay here with a friend or partner as we wandered through Europe together (no idea if they have locations outside of Europe), but as a solo female traveler, I will absolutely skip this place in the future.

Omena hotels is an finnish hotelchain that you will find in 11 citys in Finland and they also have…read morehotels in Copenhagen and Stockholm. It is very easy to order room at Omena.com. You simply order the room, pay for it online and recieve a 4 digit code that you use when you enter the hotel at arrival and to enter the room you reserved. In this way there is no reseption at the hotel and they save sallery expences so they can keep an low fare on their rooms. The Rooms themselves are okey when you compare to what you actually paid for a night. Even tough the toilet and showers unit in the rooms are made of plastic like the ones you find on small cruise ships. The room has got a little couch, a big bed, microwave oven and waterboiler. And there are no roomservices from day to day, but for a cheap pay for the room i still think it was good being here.
