Hostels can be tough to rate because everyone has different needs and wants. When my sister and I…read morebackpacked through Prague we were excited to check out the city and really delve into the local scene. We found Sir Toby's through some online research and were relieved to read such positive reviews. There's WIFI access, the rooms are clean, the hostel itself is cute and the staff is nice, and we loved the "club" below the hostel that operated as the breakfast room in the AM and a bar/hang out spot for guests in the evenings and at night. More affordable than most other hostels, the downside we found with Sir Toby's was just the location. Not too close to the center of the city, you're stuck needing to cab or take the train places to see the center of the city and the many tourist attractions. It wasn't an expensive or long ride, (make sure to get a week-long pass if you want to take the train for more than just a ride or two. It's the best way to get around!) but as young adults, we were really looking for more noise and activity. Because of the distance from downtown you don't get the ins/outs and hustle and bustle of people coming and going. And because of that, the atmosphere was less social and more quiet. Which is certainly good if you are looking for that! If you want to be somewhere that's walkable to more than some small shops, parks and grocery stores, this may not be the right spot for you. But it's cheap, it's clean and sometimes that's all you need!

My concern is safety, I told the hostel that me and my friends were followed and stalked by a man who was just hanging around the hostel for hours. When we left to go out for a drink, he followed us in the tram. He was consistently staring at us then started taking pictures of us. We got off early and he then got off on the next stop and hid in a bush, to where he ended up showing up behind us again. We ended up hiding in the subway, he found us so we ran to more people, we're a group of 5 girls in our late teens and 20s, so we were terrified. This isn't really the hostels fault, what is is how they handled it. I told them early in the morning and they told me to come back later when a manager was present. I did a few hours later and they made me wait for 30 minutes, taking people who arrived in the line after me, before me. When I finally talked to someone they seemed annoyed, and gave me the impression that they believed I misread the situation perhaps. I took a picture of the man and they gave me their email to send it to them, and said to let them know if he comes back. I understand they can't do anything to find him, but maybe assurance that he can't come back, or at least an attitude that they understand how dangerous this could be would have made me feel more secure. I feel brushed off, I'm on vacation and I spent two hours running and hiding from someone, and then an hour trying to tell the staff about it only to be brushed off. Perhaps they take it more seriously than I realize, but I didn't get an impression that they were concerned at all. I'm very frustrated with me experience and don't feel secure here.
