There are allot of homeless people, run down buildings, and sketchy people nearby. If you are a young woman I would not recommend walking alone at night. There are some good places to eat nearby and it is close to the street car that will take you to the French quarter. There's also a bus but I wouldn't recommend taking that. The staff was nice. Melissa greeted us and gave us good recommendations. She was very kind. But don't expect to see the staff much of your visit if at all. To get inside the house and rooms there's codes you enter into a keypad. The room was clean but it's a shared house. You're door to door with people so you can hear all their business. The bathrooms are private but are outside the room so it's a bit inconvenient. The rooms were clean and bed nice but the house smelt like there was water damage in the walls. There is also no where to fill up water on the property. There is a fridge inside the room and microwave in the kitchen. For what the place is, it's a place to crash that's affordable. If you want to do anything other than sleep and shower or want to be in a nicer part of town, I'd look elsewhere. Overall it's good value I'd say.

Even the hotels are bad compared to other cities. Spaces are smaller, the infrastructure is older, plumbing seems to be more outdated, just dirtier all around. This is especially true in the French Quarter. Hotel Storyville feels more like a home than a hotel. Parking is on the street so that's a hit or miss. It's not a bad walk to the French Quarter and it's very close to Cajun Seafood! My favorite dirty dive for cheap seafood. The room I stayed in is bigger than a traditional hotel room, with more character (kind of decorated with a beachy theme, which is confusing because we are not on a beach), and comes with a kitchen. Though if you're in NOLA, you're here to eat out at the fabulous restaurants and shouldn't be cooking. If prices are comparable to traditional hotels, I would give this a shot.

Ricky, the front desk manager, came to my room and tried to fix the problem. He ended up having to restart the wall unit from outside. He said he had to leave it off for a while. He provided me with a space heater while the unit was off. My issue was solved, and I was content. Later, I was heating up my food, and I saw a dead baby roach in the microwave. I looked closer and I was two more crawling around in the microwave. The roaches where living In the microwave and feeding off people's leftover food. I also saw a few crawling on the wall. I was going to make this my go-to place to stay when I come to New Orleans. But when i saw the roaches, I changed my mind. My advice to the property is to get some pest control. You have a good hotel/inn for the price.. Great location. Monthly sprays for roaches would help.

We stayed in Room B which is on the left on the ground floor immediately after you enter the gate. It has NO WINDOWS. As soon as we entered the room were were hit with an overpowering smell of plug in air fresheners only slightly hiding the smell of mold and mildew. There were 4 air fresheners plugged in in just a single small room. The hvac in the room is locked between 70 and 80 degrees and this does not allow the system to reduce the humidity enough. This means that the room is DAMP. The air is heavy with moisture and even if you sweat a little in your clothes, they will be wet the next day. When we arrived back home, all of our belongings and even clean clothes stunk of the mold and damp and needed to be washed. This environment cannot be healthy to breathe in for any length of time. There were many other issues with the room. Despite a $95 cleaning fee added to every booking, the room was not clean. There was dirt and dust on the floor and carpet, some white powder under the bed, the shower was full of paint flakes and the inside of the only closet door was covered in black dust that we actually cleaned with a damp cloth for fear that it would get on the clothes we hung there. Broken fixtures: see the photos of the toilet paper dispenser falling out of the wall and the light above the sink dangling out of the ceiling blocking your ability to open the cabinets. The bathroom sink drain was broken and blocked with hair and other things even washing hands or brushing teeth caused the sink to fill up with water. The room was pretty loud--especially on Friday and Saturday night. As mentioned in other reviews, there are a bunch of people sitting outside the gate playing music and collecting money. You will also hear loud car stereos. Finally, the listing says that bag storage is available with advance notice. We requested this at the same time as we made our booking only to learn once we arrived that the owner was not aware of the request (it was visible in the booking.com chat) and that they could not provide it because they have no staff. This is an important thing to know about this location. No one works there. There's no office, no one to ask for help with anything. For example, our room had only 1 coffee mug. We looked for someone to ask and found no one. Similarly, the room only came with a single key, but we needed to 2. No one actually works there. They just contract cleaners to come at the end of people's stays (and even before as they were already knocking on our door 90 minutes before the listed checkout time). I would not recommend that anyone stay here.

They are wonderful people who have cared for their property for 25 years, which eludes with authenticity, originality, and their passion for what they do. They made every effort to ensure our stay was perfect. With COVID restrictions they were unable to provide a cooked breakfast, but every other BnB's we looked into do not have breakfast at all. Rose Manor provided's breakfast, in abidance to COVID restrictions. Pastries, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, english muffins, jams/butter/honey, muffins, yogurt, fruit, and I couldn't get enough of the french coffee and a bunch of different teas to choose from for those tea-drinkers. You can sit at the dining room table and be lucky enough to have a good laugh with Peter, or sit outside, where you can wind-down at night under the bistro lights. Loved this! The rooms were cozy, clean and SO comfortable. They have a refrigerator and freezer which we loved because of all the local delicious food we couldn't leave behind. The walls are full of interesting art and pieces of history. There's couches to sit in the back room if you want to separate from your room for a bit. It's located in a safe town, Lakeview. It's a low crime area that apparently has their own police officers patrolling the area. We walked to the Marina from here, passing a few delicious looking restaurants we didn't have time to try, and never felt unsafe. It is of course not downtown, but that's what we prefer because parking in NOLA is outrageous, and its a 10-15 minute quick drive to downtown if you want to take your own car, or ~$15 Uber. They are the reason we prefer BnB's rather than wasting our time and money at big hotels. They're happy to give you information you couldn't get from staying elsewhere, like unique ways of getting around the city (at the corner of their block you can get a bus to take you to the end of canal st.), their stories living in NOLA, they are great company, and lovely people who are passionate about what they do. I love staying in this neighborhood. I can walk to City Park, the French Quarter, Treme, the racetrack, and about anywhere in town. House is beautifully decorated with antiques and period furnishings. It creeks, floors are uneven, windows are large, and this is how we like it in New Orleans. Beautiful pool and courtyard out back which I regret not using out of sheer forgetfulness. Glen is so nice and warm and welcoming and helpful and everything an innkeeper should be. I never experienced his breakfasts because I either slept in or was too full from my prior evening's New Orleans meal to even think about eating again. Had to work a little and WiFi worked great throughout the suite. Appreciated the little things like bottled water downstairs and a cool collection of books.
