I had an extensive medical history and she wanted to be sure that whoever was going to be my full time adult doctor would really understand my conditions. horrible horrible place to take your children do not let the reviews fool you. They won't answer any questions and demand you follow their advice on anything blindly. I requested to spread out my child's vaccines instead of having her stabbed 15 times at once and they refused without any explanation, in fact I was told that this place "was not for me". My daughter has had bad reactions in the past when given so many vaccines at once and all I requested was for them to be spread out so that her body wouldn't over react. I am using a different name other than my own out of a desire to not have any further communication with this office. I found, as some other reviewers found (their reviews are buried at the bottom and are not ones I was able to read prior to our appointment), Dr. Horvath to be rude, dismissive, unkind, accusatory, harsh, assumptive, and hurtful. As those other reviewers discovered, I also found that Dr. Horvath preferred to judge rather than to listen. Furthermore, as she spoke to me of other patients she had to refer to another facility, she spoke with exasperation and annoyance, not care. I would hope doctors to be more caring, not exasperated and annoyed at patients for their unfortunate health conditions. I have since found another pediatrician. I have encountered numerous doctors and specialists and people in the medical field, but I have never experienced such an assumptive, dismissive demeanor as I did from Dr. Horvath (and I hope I never have to experience it again). I am not saying that she meant to be perceived this way, but as it is already stressful to have health issues examined, I prefer the approach I've experienced before, which has been to address health concerns in a caring way, listening and suggesting ways to remedy the issue out of care, not exasperation and frustration. I am happy that others have found Dr. Horvath to be sweet, kind, and caring, but that was not our experience. And if you are someone who may already have some anxiety about visiting doctors, and if it matters to you the way someone speaks to you, you prefer someone who speaks from understanding and listens to understand (saying the same information but in a tone that is not dismissive and assumptive, etc.), you might want to look around more for someone who can still address your concerns (and possibly with the same exact information) but in a way that leaves you feeling cared for, not accused, judged, and cast aside. read more

I am so happy to have found Dr. Horvath on Yelp. Last year my employer unfortunately decided to discontinue our Kaiser coverage. I have been with Kaiser my whole life. I was extremely hesitant to switch to a new insurance provider and dreaded the idea of finding a new pediatrician. Yelp saved the day for me. After reading all of the positive reviews on Yelp, I called Dr. Horvath's office to see if she was accepting new patients. The nurses were very helpful and simply asked me to fax over my new insurance card to see if my plan was accepted. 5 minutes later I received a call back to say they were happy to take us and then proceeded to book our 1 year check up. Who would have thought it would be so easy. A few days later my baby became very ill. I called the office and they were able to see us the same day. The nurses took the time to explain our insurance and billing while we waited for the Dr. A few minutes went by and we were brought back to the exam room and a few minutes after that Dr. Horvath came in and quickly diagnosed a double ear infection and gave us a prescription for an antibiotic. We were in and out in less than 30 minutes but still felt we received adequate time and attention. She answer all the questions we had and made sure we were comfortable before we left. Over the next couple of days, we ended up needing to bring our baby in two more times and had no problem at all with scheduling appointments to work easily with our schedules. Today was our son's 1 year check up. We were immediately brought in to the exam room and got started right away. The nurse took all of his new measurements. She was great with my son, laughing and playing with him. She made sure to chip away at his shyness until he was at ease in the room. Shortly after Dr. Horvath came in and started her exam. She was very thorough and asked a ton of questions while also answering in detail all of my questions. She really took her time and played with my son and distracted him when needed. I really thought my previous pediatrician would be hard to beat. I really really liked her. But I think I can now say, I like Dr. Horvath much more. In the past it was not unusual to wait for long periods of time to be brought into an exam room, only to wait for a nurse, only to wait for our Dr, only to feel slightly rushed once we got going. I would rate her 10/5 if i could. I have been seeing her for last 9 years or so. Absolutely lover her- as a pediatrician and as a person. She is excellent at diagnostics and very kind. Really looks out for my kids. She will personally call up to follow up how my kid was doing after a certain flu medication. Even when I had Kaiser I kept seeing her as self pay. She will call you back after hours and she has even stayed back to see my son on urgent basis on saturday afternoon when he was really sick and I was travelling. We are very lucky to have found her. She is an amazing doctor. Been taking my kid to her for past 8 years. She is extremely efficient with her time which enables her to to see her other patients for same day appointment. Getting "on time" treatment is as important as getting the right treatment and you get both with her. She will get straight to the point and is very good with diagnosing a medical problem. Genuine, smart, very caring and independent thinking doctor. I don't understand the obsession most people in this country have with bedside manners and customer service in medical field. I have seen doctors who waste so much time sweet talking with patients that they are hardly left with any useful time to see other patients. I can't imagine why Dr. Horvath gets good reviews. Her office is a dirty mess, the financial policies nickel and dime you to death for things like phone calls or not paying a copay at the time of service and she is not exactly friendly. My husband and I are expecting a baby in May and we are searching for a pediatrician. When we arrived at the office, there was clutter everywhere and postings of all sorts of long policies all over the walls. I felt like I was walking into a legal trap because every posting seemed to say, "if you don't do this or that, you will be charged $15." Not a friendly area to wait in. I tried to picture a child in the space and found myself wondering about the cleanliness of the office. We were seen promptly, but Dr. Horvath didn't introduce herself when she came in and didn't shake hands. She has a rough touch, brisk demeanor and poor communication skills. She used the same tip to her scope to look in my ears and then in my nose. Gross. After probing mu belly, she walked out of the room and then came back a few minutes later asking if I had the test results from my previous doctor. Huh? I didn't know I was supposed to be trying to get test results for her. Besides, how can I get her anything when I'm in an exam room without access to computer or fax? Strange. We will not be using her as a pediatrician, nor would we recommend her. read more

I've had to deal with pediatricians for a while people (my oldest is 19!), and NEVER have I EVER experienced a pediatrician as superb as Dr. Horvath. She is absolutely PHENOMENOL: knowledgeable, responsive, gentle, caring, informative - my 8yr old son LOVES LOVES LOVES to see her, and always has since she was there at his birth!! That speaks volumes people! He can be 5 handfuls, and then some - she has never showed frustration - as a PRO, she brilliantly conversed with him and smiled (she's ALWAYS has a smile and lil chuckle!) and coerced him to do what she needed to properly evaluate him. Because I have three sons, we tend to visit Dr. Horvath very frequently for one reason or another (yes, we make good use of our insurance) and we next to never have an issue getting a same-day appointment. In fact, I can't remember the last time that I called and didn't get a same-day appointment. She's there til after 5 most days (although the office personnel doesn't want you to know that) and even on Saturday mornings. On several occassions she has called me in the evening (7-8pm) or a few days later to follow-up to make sure my son(s) were doing better. Once she even gave me her home phone number - can you believe that?! What doctor does that?! I thought that was something my parents were accustomed to, but not in my lifetime. I didn't use it because it really wasn't necessary and out of respect (and even threw it away later for fear one day I would be an over-concerned mom and unjustly call!) Often times when a prescription is necessary for my kids, she sends me home with enough samples of the prescription so I don't have to go fill one or pay for it. Her office is COVENIENTLY located in the parking lot of O'Connor Hospital - which is great when we've had to get xrays done (but beware: that parking lot is PACKED FULL during weekday mornings - a couple times we've had to park a block or two away). If its up to me, she'll be the only pediatrician for our family for the rest of our lives. My 19 yr old still sees her if needed, despite the fact that she is female (you know how uncomfortable that can be for a dude) - she takes patients all the way up to age 23 I think. Dr. Horvath is a master of her craft and genuinely cares. Quite simply: she is the epitome of what a GREAT doctor should be! read more

We just started seeing Dr. Horvath in Dec, and found her by accident. We had just moved, and my daughter had a really bad fever. We needed to see someone quickly, but I hate emergency rooms, especially with an infant. Dr. Horvath happened to be the first person we called who was open on Sat and had an available appointment. I'm so glad we found her. From the beginning, she proved to be awesome. That weekend, she sent us home but gave us her home # to call and check in that night. And she arranged to come in on Sun morning to give my daughter another dose of antibiotics, even though her office wasn't open. It turned out that my daughter got much worse, so she came back int\o her office to admit us to the hospital. What's most impressive about her is that she has amazing follow through. We were in the hospital for 4 days, and they never found out what was wrong. But Dr. Horvath persisted even after my daughter got better and sent us for another consulting opinion. She pushed to have more tests done. I thought she was a bit of a worry-wart, but it turns out that she's right. My daughter has a urological condition that caused the fever. Now that it's been diagnosed, we can monitor it more carefully and make sure she doesn't get more infections. If it hadn't been for Dr. Horvath, we'd probably be back in the hospital already with another kidney infection. read more

They are pretty good about getting you in the same day when you need to and don't try and push services on you or medications that you don't need. I found doctor Hovarth when my son had an ear infection. I called late at night and left a message, (they do have an emergency answering serivce but I left it in the general mail box). I got a call back by 8:30 the next morning and they squeezed me in a few hours later. Dr. Horvath was fantastic with my son and listened to what I told her about him. Being a great doctor means listening and acting, she does both. She was really good at making him and my younger son feel very comfertable. read more

In a sea of large corporate players there are still some good old-fashioned doctors running their own practices out there - Dr. Horvath is one of them. I've been taking my son (who was born 2 months premature) here ever since he was sent home from the NICU over a year ago. What makes her so great? Here's a short list: -She always returns phone calls the same day Monday thru Saturday (she usually calls back at lunch if you call before then, or at the end of the day) -She keeps an onsite diagnostic lab in the office so if your kid is sick she can do a quick blood test to find out if it's bacterial or viral and prescribe medicine as needed -You can get same day appts (except Sunday because they're closed) if your kid is sick, therefore largely bypassing having to go to urgent care centers where you may get any random doctor -She is just really knowledgeable, and keeps up with the latest medical studies -She genuinely seems to care about her patients In summary, I am really picky and she still gets my highest recommendation. If you don't believe me, go meet her for yourself - she does free consultations for expecting parents too. Note: She is a bit selective in the insurance she can accept (it's mostly PPO's), so you may want to verify yours is accepted first. read more

She pulled cotton from my daughters nasal passages as a baby and has been my daughter's most treasured advocate over the years, especially after my husband (daughter's father) passed. I have been seeing Dr. Horvath for 8 years now. She is nothing but sweet and always spends ample time with me. I have seen a handful of doctors over the years, and Dr. Horvath is the only doctor I fully trust. She doesn't aimlessly prescribe medication, if you don't need it. I have experienced some doctors who just prescribe medication for everything, even if it isn't necessary. She is very sweet and always works overtime, in order to see more patients. This review is just for Dr. Horvath-- I highly highly recommend Dr. Horvath. No she doesn't take HMO insurance, but she doesn't like to have restrictions. She is an awesome lady and I can honestly say I trust her with my all my children's lives. She always has the time to call me back with any concerns I may have and my children are quickly seen the same day if they are sick. There is never a long wait in her office either. We went to her after seeing all the great reviews. Perhaps she is a good doctor when your child has an unusual symptom or needs treatment, but for routine visits I suggest staying away. She seems nice enough, but is very quick to stereotype and offer advice based on those. We had sleep issues with our child and brought it up with her at the 9 months visit. Her response was a stern chiding about how "You Chinese and Indians never allow a baby to cry for the first 3 years of their life. That's what is wrong. That's why most of the kids I see with sleep issues even when they are 4 years old are Chinese and Indian. Put her in the crib close the door and let her cry. Don't go back in till the morning." Umm okay, we were disconcerted but didn't say anything to her and let it slide. Next visit when I wanted to talk about sleep, my better half asked if I wanted to get chided again and we never mentioned it. That's not a promising sign if that's the relationship with your child's pede. Where we got completely turned off was when we mentioned to her that the baby refuses to drink milk in any shape or form, regardless of temperature or flavor or source. The only milk she was consuming was from nursing. We mentioned that the baby absolutely loves yogurt and cheese though, and wanted to know if we could wean her (she was 1+ by this appointment). Her advice was to *force* the baby to drink at least 16 oz of milk a day preferably 32 oz, by squirting it in her mouth one syringe full at a time if necessary, till the baby learned to like milk! I mentioned there are others in our family who don't like milk either and she says "that's no reason to let the baby get away with it. Force her to drink the milk.". I don't know about her but if someone tried to force something I don't like down my throat with a syringe, and 16 ounces of it every single day, I am pretty sure I will soon loathe it with all my heart. I found her advice ludicrous and strongly suspect stems from the stereotypes in her head about Chinese and Indians being "too soft" on their offspring. I can't imagine going back to her office to get more put-downs and chiding, and be told that I am a bad parent for wanting to work with my child's personality instead of against it. I want a doctor who my child can see as she grows up, who she feels comfortable talking to and getting advice from. If this is the kind of force-it-down-your-throat advice that she is going to get, it's not going to work for her personality type. We won't be returning to Dr. Horvath's office again. read more

Dirty old office. Doctor spends less than 5 minutes per patient. Always running and in a hurry. Never takes time to explain anything. All paper charting and prescription that is impossible to read! So you leave her office without having opportunity to get any explanation from the doctor and without option of reading the summery report in online chart ,like most modern offices do nowadays. So I hate writing posts like this but I just want to let all parents know out there, she may not be a good choice if you are anything like me, here are some reasons. She was great when my son was born, very nice, but as soon as he started to grow, she was very hesitant on my giving him formula and if I did, she wanted me to water it down. My baby was 9 pounds 4 ounces and 21 inches long when he was born and now he's 4.5 months and he's 19 pounds, 27 inches. Dr. Horvath pretty much freaked out at his 4 month check up and told me to not give him rice or any veges that I needed to water down his formula. At first I was like oookkaaay, then when I left the office I felt really weird, like I didn't feel good about that appointment at all. She was basically telling me to not feed him, and to cut his calories. My motherly instincts came in after the appt of course and I did NOT water down his formula and I still have him rice in the bottle. Why would I want to slow his growth down? He's a happy baby, I don't want a skinny, upset baby. I'm the one who goes home with him. She acted like I was over feeding him, not taking into consideration that we have tall pple in our family. Another reason, whenever we would go to an appointment, she never took the time to talk to my husband and I or even look at us. She was very busy and I understood that but at least talk to us a bit about our baby. She basically would come in very rushed acting, give him the shots then leave. It was like a minute long appt. I always felt awkward going to those appts. I'm a new mom and I just yelped her because it was two weeks before I had my baby and I saw all these great reviews but didn't have time to look at the other reviews so I chose her. If you are a new mom and do not know alot about babies, probably not a good choice. She's very conservative and a little old school. All my friends have babies and were telling me that their 4 and 5 month old were on cereal and veges and I was thinking, geez what is wrong with my kid that the Dr told us he can't be on it. And my friends babies were around the same size as mine. I'm so glad I found a new pediatrician, his name is Dr. Armann in San Jose, if you are looking! He's amazing! I LOVE Dr.Horvath! My daughter grew up with her, and she is a supportive pediatrician, and sometimes I even think she's like a 3rd parent. She's always there when we need her, and she just beyond words can say. We've been with her for twelve years now, she's never let my family down, and has saved my son's life once and my daughter's life twice. She is a hero a real hero. All other children's doctors don't add up to her. Even though she is very busy, she tries to make the most of the time she has with you and asks you about your day. I love meeting her, my kids are never afraid to take shots with her either. A "Doctor's appointment" makes my kids so happy, because they know it's just going to be a little talk with Dr.Horvath and a misquote like shot or blood test. Where to start! My daughter Zoey had a horrible pediatrician in San Jose who NEVER listened to what I had to say and my daughter had a skin condition which he had given us the wrong medication for! Anyways. DR HORVATH is AMAZING I feel blessed to have found her, she listens and is very patient. The service is so quick there and professional. The nurse is young and does great with my silly child. The doctor always plays with Zoey to get her comfortable with her and during the physical she answered ALL of my questions and did not rush us out as our previous doctor had. Doctor Horvath is an extraordinary doctor! She is simply the best. The best part about her is that she will always accommodate you if you are concerned and want her to see your child, she will make time and will give you an appointment on the same day no matter how busy she is. The other thing I like about her is she is also very responsive and always available over the phone. I have called her several times on Sundays where I spoke to her directly and asked her advise, once I even called her at 2 am and she answered the phone and reassured me. She prescribes antibiotics only if really needed. Once I had my 6 year old nephew come from India and he got an eye infection after coming to the US. We didn't have an insurance for him but still Dr Horvath was kind enough to see him and charged a very nominal fee. His eye also got better after using the ointment prescribed by her. She cares about you and the little one. She spends enough time when she needs to do do. She checks everything and anything when she feels the need to do so. She can do quick ear pressure checks, blood tests etc at her office. She gives the vaccines herself. Every time I take my son who is 2 years and 9 months now I am more impressed. She is open on Saturday's which is a huge benefit for working parents. She always returns calls very promptly. Always! I highly recommend her to anyone!
