The Horse and Groom holds a special place in my heart because it appears to be the only establishment on Cowbridge's High Street that is open past 1 pm on a Sunday.
It's like a ghost town around here, but I guess that's part of its old-fashioned charm. I, for one, appreciate a late-night, neighbourhood watering hole where several generations gather to enjoy a pint or two. Corrugated ol' timers hunch over their lagers, while skinny young men reach across the snooker table to sink that last ball in.
The Horse and Groom is your traditional pub, offering your normal range of spirits, ales and lagers. An mp3 jukebox perches on a pillar, with the afore-mentioned snooker table positioned in an area by the window, so you can play, chug a pint, and people watch all at the same time.
The light wood panelling behind the bar is a bit yee-haw country western for my liking, but it works in this setting. A myriad of mirrors and disco balls just wouldn't work in here. read more
