Visiting the Joker
Richard D.

As the nights start to cool off, leaves change colors, and there's pumpkin flavored everything you know Halloween is just around the corner. This is the time of the year where many people let go of their inhibitions and just embrace the season. There's no where better to face your fears than at Warner Bros. 2nd annual "Horror Made Here, Festival of Frights." This is a unique take on the traditional haunted houses/mazes as many of the actual sets or spot on replicas are used to terrify its visitors. Being a huge DC fan I was most excited to visit Arkham Asylum and see where The Joker and Batman's other rogues lay their heads. The experience is pretty intense as Harley Quinn greets you and sends you off to deal with all the crazies from Gotham City. If you never went to camp as a kid you have the opportunity here at WB. Camp counselors Jason Voorhees and Freddy Kruger will even greet you with a giant hug. Ok kidding this was awesome. You'll immediately feel like you're part of one of your favorite 80's slasher films. Be on the look out for scattered human remains as well as the 2 icons as they pop out of random places. Additionally you will be able to experience a special viewing of The Exorcist, visit the IT House, take part in The Conjuring Universe, and much more. I will definitely be adding this WB event to my Halloween must do's yearly. If you're into this kind of thing I highly recommend.

Let me start by saying that I'm a tough critic of these types of events as I do large scale events for a living, I have been going to HHN & Knott's Scary for 6+ years, and I am a total lover of all things Halloween. That all being said, I cannot give high enough praises to Warner Bros for Horror Made Here. Let's break it down: 1) You can't directly compare this event to HHN or Knott's overall. Why? Because those are THEME PARKS. This is a studio backlot that is literally putting this on from the ground up. This event clearly has a target audience, and I think they are doing a fantastic job in catering to that demographic. You can however compare the mazes, guest experience, food and beverage, and in all those areas, I am giving WB high marks. 2) This event is totally worth the price. Events of this scale cost money to produce. Every staff person, every set piece, every perk we get to enjoy costs. Would I love to pay less, of course, but I can understand the price structure as it stands. One comment I would make is that it would be awesome to have a ticket option that includes parking so you can buy it all at once, or even at a discounted rate if you pay for parking when you get the tickets. 3) The staff was INCREDIBLE. From the parking experience (which was seamless, and very clear), to the entry line/security/entrance which was organized and dare I say, orderly - - we were very impressed. The staff was friendly, and I had multiple people ask me how I was doing throughout the night, say hello as we walked by, smile, ask if we knew where we were going, etc. Coming from a job where we are focused on guest experience, I was really pleased to see this level of organization - especially when I have NEVER encountered anything similar at another Halloween event like this. 4) The mazes/experiences were a blast. We had a chance to do all of them, and I was so impressed with the experiential quality of all of them. You felt like you were a part of the movie, rather than being in a conga line stuff side by side with people going through a maze. They carefully only let a certain number of people in at a time, which I think is a great way to really enhance the experience for the guests. The Exorcist movie experience in the Church and the IT house were probably my favorites, but they were all wonderfully designed with great actors, scare actors, set design and props. 5) Additionally, I loved that Stage 48 was part of the experience. We got to see the whole Tim Burton/Corpse Bride/Beetlejuice display which was AWESOME, in addition to the rest of their amazing collection. We also got to visit and take a photo on the Friends couch in Central Perk and walk through the gift shop, which was a nice added bonus. 6) Next up is a very important component of an event like this - the bars! There are several bars set up throughout the backlot, with a lot of different offerings. My favorite bar was Fangtasia, right near the entrance, that offered custom cocktails, blood bags and many photo opportunities inside. The bar was dimly lit, with red lighting, and the blood bag was way better than the similar option at Universal, because this one has alcohol in it for almost the same price! We opted for one of those, and came back later in the night to try to Skeleton Key cocktail which also packed a punch. 7) I know this may have been a coincidence, but I have to say I enjoyed that this was mostly an adult crowd. It gets difficult being an almost 30-something trying to enjoy a night out when you're surrounded by screaming middle-schoolers at some of these other haunted events. Overall, I cannot speak highly enough of our experience at Horror Made Here. Couple with the fact that we just bought a house down the street, I am a fan and hope they continue doing this for years to come. It will become our go-to Halloween event.

I went to Horror Made here 2018 and was sad to hear that they weren't having an event for 2019. I do 1 or 2 Halloween spook events a weekend during October. This past weekend I did 7 smaller mazes in Las Vegas. I've read the reviews here and have to say I completely disagree with a lot of the negative feedback on Horror Made Here. The only negative thing I can say is that it was very pricey. I would suggest WB lower the price point and increase maze time. That being said....best quality I have seen. I've done the theme park mazes, hayrides, tons of escape rooms here and in other states. Again...the quality here is amazing. Makeup is on point, characters remain in character all night long, and production is great. The effects that they had were unlike any other places I have been to. They also sold alcohol, had some smaller rides built, had classes on FX makeup, and even had several cool photo booth set ups with green screens.

I love Halloween time and I love doing all the different amusement part events, mazes, you name it. So I've been to many of these and this one is definitely one of my favorites. This is the second year it's been done and I'm assuming with its popularity it will only get bigger and better in future years. This a Halloween event put on by Warner Brothers studios so you know they spared no expense. Definitely high production value. I don't want to give away any of the surprises or ruin any of the scares, but just let's say that all 5 "experiences" (IT, The Conjuring, Arkham Asylum, The Exorcist, Nightmare on Camp Crystal Lake) were very immersive. You felt like you were in the actual films! Great attention to detail! I call them "experiences" because they aren't your average walk-through mazes. The studio lot itself is also pretty fun with bars, a carnival ride, live music, concessions and food, lots of photo ops, and scary costumed actors popping up to fighter you. A bit pricey but I feel like you get what you pay for.

I wish it came back. It was one of the best horror mazes I've been to. My favorite maze was from the nun.

Recently our party visited the The Winter Arts Festival from December 13 - 14, 2025. [Admission]: Free event located in the heart of Downtown Burbank. [Parking]: Free parking, but very difficult to find an available spot without any prior research (no luck at the 133 E Orange Grove Ave Garage - it is the same lot sharing with the AMC Burbank 16), but our party found a secret public parking lot with plenty of available spots at 348 E Palm Ave Parking (the same lot shares with Burbank Police Department). [What to expect]: There were over 170+ handmade artisan booths on San Fernando Boulevard from Magnolia Blvd to Angeleno Ave. S-tier art vendors from indie goods, jewelry design, paper goods, art, photography, food, etc. Several vendors were offering free food samples. I spotted at least 3 musicians playing both holiday and pop songs. The festival was a lot bigger than I thought and it took our party about 30+ minutes to see most of vendors. There were a Christmas tree with a tunnel & a booth making ornaments for free. Visitors can also take pictures with Santa from 12 PM to 4 PM. [Conclusion]: I like this arts festival a lot because (1) many vendors were selling super cute items and not just limiting to traditional arts and canvases, (2) free parking, (3) live music, and (4) free food samples. Overall it was an absolutely pleasant surprise and I would consider coming back to this festival again.

We drove to Downtown Burbank Winter Arts Festival and I counted 200 tents of artisans with varying items and beautiful items being showcased. Parking is everywhere but the mall parking was the best choice. Prices are very reasonable and the event was being curated by Jackalope (Indie Artisan Fair). There was plenty of volunteers, law enforcement to keep the peace and thousands of people. Food was everywhere and I probably walked more than 10,000 steps for the day.

There was a good command presence, and they did a good job walking around making sure everything was on the up and up. There were plenty of tables and chairs to eat and enjoy the live entertainment. The crowd was having fun and the volunteers did a good job keeping everything running smoothly. It's always nice to support the local schools They have silent auction and hourly 50/50 raffles. The amount of carnival games I almost non-existent for a fair, as there were only 6 games total for attendees to play. Definitely not enough variety for kids. And winning tickets which they needed to redeem for prizes that looked rather sad and definitely not even worth $1, even for 6+ tickets is just sad. A slightly positive in that most games were priced reasonably for current standards at $3-5 ea play. The lines for the rides were all very lengthy and doubt you could really get your money's worth from the unlimited ride wristband. Otherwise each ride would cost from $6 and up. The food selection was average though with plenty of varied options. While I do like to support the local community when I can, not sure I would attend this again next year with the decrease in carnival type atmosphere and seemingly more of a pocketbook stretcher to get any fun out of this fair.

For actual food food, we gorged on Brazilian BBQ, thai, indian, sushi, burgers, and much, much more! For dessert, we had ice cream, tiramisu, cupcakes, pastries, and caramel apple slices (they were giving out WHOLE ones but started to run out...darn!) My favorite food vendors were Porto's and Haagen Dazs. I kept going back for more ice cream, and ended up getting three scoops of three different flavors. Mmm. I had a scoop of Half Baked from Ben and Jerry's too. And along with the Porto's desserts I ate, I took home a creme brulee, red velvet cupcake, and a hard candy apple. YES I AM A GREEDY, GREEDY LITTLE GIRL, muahaha! I was disappointed with Kabuki's offerings. And honestly, you know what a CPK pizza tastes like...I tended to stray away from the generic chains and tried some of the more "exotic" goodies that I wouldn't normally try. Portions are just the right size too, I think. You don't get TOO full before you've tried all you want to try. Then you can go back for seconds of the things you want. Yelp was awesome enough to also include tickets to the beer and wine garden, so the boyfriend enjoyed that. You get 5 samples of 4oz. cups of beers or wine. What I wish I had known beforehand: -You can get blue plastic plates at a table up front...it reduces waste and gives you more room to get more samples! But they ran out by the time I got there. -Parking is a *$#(%)*$ (but free!) -Gotta get the whole apples while you can -Take your time. I was running around and stressing out for the first 30 minutes thinking that the lines would take forever and then the vendors were going to run out of food...they won't, don't worry! Designated smoking areas were in the parking lot or front of the museum. Upon entering, you passed the food trucks and sponsors area, then the lawn, and finally the porta-potties on both sides of the screen. The stage was at the foot of the screen, but wished they had a camera that projected the performance onto the screen. Exposed to the elements, you heard random sounds from conversations, dogs barking, and vehicle traffic, etc.. The aforementioned gigantic movie screen was your TV while DJ Carter and the live band provided the music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Eat See Hear on the lawn of The Autry Museum was my favorite location because of its closeness to home, beautiful surroundings, and a ton of free parking.
