Hornets is London's Hidden Gem for Menswear second-hand clothing. They seem to have a lot of nice things in Hornets. I have bought quite a few nice things from Hornets in the past. It's amazing what you can find in Hornets. read more

We visited on a Saturday while the market was in full swing so the store was crammed with people. The Mister was taken with their men's messenger bags and settled on a very stylish model that was waxed so it's rain resistant. At under £40, it was reasonably priced and it's good quality too. Kelly couldn't resist a smaller purse - again, stylish, sturdy and a great souvenir! The staff, despite being so busy, was lovely and gave us some good recommends for local places to grab a bite. The first impression was that the clothes were essential pieces, very classical and well made, anything between business ans leisure, with very upscale price tags. We decided to get the tie elsewhere. I can't imagine anyone of my under thirty year old friends as regular customer of this label but that is just my youthful opinion about their target group based on the safe looking designs.

When they were still a small independent label found in slightly off-the-beaten-track corners of London, I actually thought they were different and quite cool. But now this, a massive monstrosity of a formulatic store across three shop fronts. The display of antique sewing machines is no longer original once you have seen it at Westfields - and actually quite an insult considering that this used to be the site of part of Portobello's famous antique arcades. What a shame!

This beautiful boutique with its several floors feels like a mix of homely style with good quality, vintage detailing and a dash of quirkiness. All the products feel handpicked and handmade. Products range from children's wear to home pieces. Wooden floors, wooden hangars and wooden vintage furniture mixed with new collections all create a general look - as if from a different era. They also carry lots of labels - Sigerson Morrison "belle" shoes - which I am a big fan of and downstairs is the men's shop called "The Garbstore" with more designer lines. A total united vision - everything looks as if it should be there -and somehow relates - not easy with so many products but done in such a more-ish way

If I saw something I wanted to buy, I would pick it, look at the queue, put it back down and walk out. If I really wanted something, I would come back at a later date, but make sure that I arrived and got served before the hoard of shoppers arrived. I have to say, since the opening of the two huge Primark stores on Oxford Street, things in this particular branch have inproved enormously. The display no longer a thrift shop appearance of jumbles clothes. Also the queues are not as bad as they used be. I think the die hard Primark shoppers would rather make the trek to Oxford Street, where the chioce of goods is that much greater. For any American visitors coming to London wondering what kind of store Primark is, think an even cheaper version of Old Navy for clothes and Walmart of bedding and household accessories. The reason this store only gets three stars is due to the size of the store means that the selection is limited and does not cover the full range of Primark goods.

But, after my visit to the Kilburn location I learned that each store is very (VERY) different than the next. Crap is EVERYWHERE. I seriously didn't even see anyone working there picking things up. I know Oxford Circus is the huge, flagship store, but they always have about 50 workers scrambling around the tourists trying to fix up the shop in order. Any retail business should care as least a little bit if their merchandise is all on the floor. It shouldn't matter if it's only 1 quid either. Not only is this location a complete and utter disaster, but the merchandise isn't even any good. Yes, the store is smaller, but I found what is in store not to be really any worth buying. Suck it up, wake up at 9 and go to the Oxford Circus location. TRUST ME.
