The Horizontes Mural by GLeo (formally titled El Sueño Original) was completed in 2018 and is one of those rare pieces that feels monumental perhaps because you can only admire it from a distance. Your experience of trying to get close tracks with how the site works. The mural spans the massive Beachner Grain elevator complex, which is private property.
The views are from the east side. Santaa Fe at East 19th Avenue gives a partial angle, and a private lot off East 21st Street is where I caught the fuller sweep I posted. Even from far back, the scale is overwhelming. 17 silos, 50,000 square feet of painted surface showing mythic faces rising in the industrial corridor. It's a mural that asserts itself across a distance, which is fitting because it was created to visually bridge the historically Black Northeast and the predominantly Latino NorthEnd neighborhoods it sits between.
If you're able to get a good shot from public access, share it and let me know where you were.
