Lazy and incompetent tree and shrub butchers far more interested in stealing your wood for resale than actually taking care of your trees and shrubbery. They never touched the tree branches from different trees I needed pruned to prevent them from intergrowing; which is precisely what they started doing 69 DAYS after they laid me away for $8000. It will now require thousands more to find someone who actually knows what they're doing instead of relying on blarney and pretend competency. Stick with illegal aliens down at Home Depot. We have paid approximately $1000/yr to Hoppe Tree Services every year for the past 5-6 years to maintain 3 diseased evergreens in our yard. This is a high end price for these services, but we chose them to have a long lasting relationship for other future services, with a company we felt was interested in having a mutually honest and respectful business relationship that we each could count on. Boy did we make a mistake. This year, we requested services to have a few of our trees removed, one of the stumps to be grinded, and to prune a king crimson maple away from an arborvitae, (and only to prune the maple on the arborvitae side). We were disappointed when when we came home to see the branches on the sides of the tree that were to be left alone, were cut off at the trunk. We immediately sent an email to Fred and eventually he responded and said they could come prune the arborvitae side more and didn't address the primary issue of butchering the sides that were to be left alone. A week and half later they came to grind the stump of the tree in our front yard and when we got home we saw they left the hole unfilled creating a tripping hazard especially for the young children next door who regularly play in our yard. I called the office and asked to speak with the owner. I was told they would get him my message and that he would call. That afternoon, I received an email from Fred that he would come out the following day (today) to fill the hole and look at the maple. It is 5:57pm, dark outside, and we have not gotten a call or email or text and the hole remains. Its disheartening to know our business hasn't been appreciated, that this has been a one sided relationship, and that we have been paying a premium and when a horrible mistake that can't be fixed was made, we didn't even get an apology. read more

We just moved into a new home with many trees and arborvitae. So I requested an "Arborist' to educate me and make suggestions regarding care of our trees. After delaying his first appointment 4 hours prior because he was still on vacation he showed up 4 days later. He taught me nothing! No information about care or any needed maintenance. He asked many times, "well what do you want to do". It took him 2 weeks to put a plan of care together and it was twice as expensive as two competitors. And when I questioned the value versus the meeting fee, it was not adjusted. I do not recommend. read more

I will shorten this up a bit.... July 5, 2019 signed contract for Tree Removal, stump grinding and removal of grindings. Oct 28 - Nov 11th First scheduled removal time December 5 - 19th Rescheduled dates - Then set for Dec 5 at 10am (Dec 5, WE Energies arrived at 10 am to find out Hoppe cancelled without telling anyone.) Rescheduled for January 1, 2020 (I even questioned the date and she said yes, that's what it says here) Then scheduled for January 23rd Rescheduled for Feb 6th. Now set for Feb 24th at 10 am. Well they actually showed up on Feb 24th and did the tree removal, after waiting well over 6 months. They returned later that week to do the stump grinding. They removed the shavings but left the hole full of shavings which I now need to haul away so I can fill it with black dirt. Biggest issues with Hoppe has been communication, I understand things can break etc, but phone messages were left unanswered. No one followed up on appointments being cancelled, most of these, I had to call to confirm dates to find out they were changed again. Overall the work was ok, but with all of the frustration and delays, I would not feel comfortable using them again. read more

Hoppe is the best tree company in the area, and they are great people from what I can tell,they removed a tree for us that was high risk and they did it like champs. Not chumps. If you don't see or understand that the $20 is not to make a profit but to weed out terrible internet shopping customers that is your problem. read more

This time I have something new to say: A different landscape group was working across the street from us and the foreman came over to our house simple to stay that "That is is healthiest ash tree I have ever seen" as he gazed up at the 50 year old tree in our yard. Hoppe does not offer free estimates. I never got to speak to a person. I just received an email. I initially called and left them a voicemail to call me back. Very impersonal. My house is 3 miles from their office and they want to charge me $20. This $20 covers their gas and time. It is a one time fee. I won't be using Hoppe tree service. There are other tree services that come out and do it for free. So why would I pay $20? No thank you. I am not into companies that nickel and dime their customers. The other tree services send certified arborist too, for free. Not sure why anyone would pay $20 for something you can get for free elsewhere. read more

I called for an estimate to have some trees removed from our yard. No one called me back for a week. When I finally got a call back, I was told someone would come by in a few days and I would receive an emailed estimate. When I hadn't heard anything after another week, I called again. I was told the estimate appointment had been scheduled for earlier in the week, but that the employee 'forgot' to come by my house. Hoppe sent someone to my house about an hour later. The young woman looked at the trees for about 30 seconds and gave me an estimate that was twice the cost of all the other estimates I received! No thanks. read more

My experience with Hoppe could have been a lot better. I contracted with Hoppe to treat our Ash trees. The man who came and did the treatment was friendly and thorough, which I appreciated. That said, I had a terrible time with scheduling the treatment. I had to call them multiple (4 I believe in total) times before the man came out to do the treatment. Each time I would call they'd tell me I was on the schedule for next week, and when the next week came, they didn't show up. Finally, after about 8 weeks, they came to do the trees. All in all, the trees are treated and healthy and I don't have to do it again for another 2 years. . read more

Their rates were the most competitive, and they actually worked with us on making the work and pricing do-able for us. They were knowledgeable about tree health but didn't push us to take action on a tree that is likely partially dead. They gave us their opinion and told us what they recommended, but didn't insist that we deal with it this year. They came out and removed some lower limbs and cleaned everything up on our two large Norway maples. They were quick and efficient! I will say, however, that something went wrong with the scheduling and our original appointment that we were told by the office was not what the work crew had on their list, so they didn't come the first time we were expecting them to. I've used Hoppe Tree Service twice to trim my crab apple tree and (large) burning bush (two years apart) ... they do beautiful work. And ... they clean up after themselves! My neighbors always ask me ... who trims your trees, they always looks so nice. Bravo Hoppe! read more

I've had three separate projects done by Hoppe and they've comet thru in flying colors. My only concern is cost. Tree stuff is expensive.

The Ash tree in our backyard is large, beautiful - and was completely out of control, but Hoppe took care of that for us! The tree not only needed to be pruned, but was growing close to our neighbors house and power lines. The arborists took great care to not only shape the tree beautifully, but worked around the power lines without causing any damage to the house/lines. Per my request, they trimmed that side of the tree a bit more aggressively to keep it out of the way for a few years. Everything was nicely cleaned up as well - they were mindful of the garden beds that surrounded the tree and didn't trample anything. Since we'd like to keep our tree healthy, we're also doing the ash-borer injections. So far, so good - the cost of those is far less than what it would cost (emotionally and monetarily) to remove a dead tree. It's been very easy to work with them - from the original emailed quote to the online bill payment capability. Many of my neighbors have used Hoppe as well - they're always my first recommendation to people needing an arborist. Don't wait too late in the season to book services with them - they do get very busy (because they do a great job)! read more

The Hoppe team was at our home taking down two enormous cottonwood trees that were growing between our home and the neighbor's home. They were careful to get the trees down safely and without issue. They honored our many requests and worked with us and the neighbors to get the job done right. They answered our questions and were very respectful. The woman I spoke to was very unprofessional and before answering any of my questions, asked me for all of my contact information. Upon asking them the soonest they could come out, she laughed at me and said they are booking months out because they are "very popular" and also understaffed. I needed 4 medium, taller but very straight trees, with not very large canopies removed with stump grinding. The guy doing the estimate was about 15 minutes late, but I don't that against anyone, as things come up. The guy was respectful and professional. Unfortunately, like the other review I read about them, they were twice the price. I received and estimate that was $4000 (Excluding Tax) when multiple other estimates, also from companies with great reviews, were all under 2000 (Including Tax). I mean that's not even in the ballpark. This is why you get multiple estimates. I'm no expert, but I am pretty sure they'd get extra money for milling that wood and selling what's left as firewood. I can't speak of their work, but for that price the wife says they better send the Chip n Dales to do the chopping. read more

We have used Hoppe Tree Service at three different residences, over the course of 15+ years. We used two other services in between (tantalized by mailers offering discounts which we finally decided were not worth it), and in both cases ended up back with Hoppe. In one case, we observed a different company's worker apply a foliar spray overhead - without any type of respirator or face protection - which sent us right back to Hoppe. We've always seen Hoppe crews working with common sense safety equipment. In additional, each crew has been notably respectful of our property and of our neighbors. They are responsive via phone and email. At past residences, they've kept our birches healthy, encourage Alberta spruce to revive after a particularly bad winter, and took care of a terrible scale infestation of a beautiful, huge magnolia. Most recently they pruned an apple tree and transplanted a Japanese maple. While they make recommendations, they have never been pushy. read more

They did a great job and nice job of cleaning up. I've also had them diagnose and treat my Mulberry trees and have used them to prune the trees every year. read more

We hired Hoppe to remove two large trees that had fallen into the river adjacent to our property. The trees blocked the river and were a hazard to canoe and kayak paddlers. Other tree services would not even bid on removal of these trees. Hoppe's crew set up a rope trapeze system across the river to work off of and to move cut branches and trunk sections to shore. They worked quickly and safely. Crew members were friendly and all had positive attitudes. They left the site cleaner than when the arrived. Hoppe came yesterday to remove some smaller trees and trim a larger one. I was extremely impressed. They knew what they were doing and did it efficiently. They went way beyond in their cleanup, removing a pile of sticks I'd collected on the lawn and a few old logs setting around, then they blew the drive leaving everything looking wonderful.
