Finding joy in the journey... Things we take for granted are the lights the city puts on every single year as the journey getting here isn't that simple with parking and the crowds going with the flow is the simplistic path that you'd take once you realize that this moment will be memorable more than you realize. The Honolulu City Lights this year is quite spectacular on this 40th anniversary as the grounds surrounding Honolulu Hale has two tunnels brightly illuminated flashing various patterns making it a fun instagramable moment for yourself our your entire group but my favorite are the trees that's scattered throughout the grounds as the various flashing patterns of lights was so mesmerizing but was sadden on Christmas night one section wasn't working. Waching all ages flocking over to enjoy the lights and different displays is what makes this annual event something that we all love to enjoy along with Shaka Santa and Tutu Mele and mom's favorite was the two turtles holding treats is a fun event that made this season bright. Mele Kalikimaka!

Beautiful Honolulu City lights at its 40th year. We were lucky to have experienced an event this holiday season via trolley. The parking is bad so be prepared to park a distance away or drop by a different way. One of the best part of this experience are the various tree decorations in the city hall. Everything is so creative and different every year. My favorite are the trees that have underlying messages such as preservation of the environment however presented in tree form. The Mr. and Mrs. Claus display has been there for years. The large lighted trees blinking in the night. The tunnel of lights is a nice touch. However, the small choochoo train for families is a little dangerous as there are little kids around where they traverse around the display area. This is a wonderful holiday tradition to get you into the holiday spirit.

Happy Holidays!!! It is the 40th Anniversary and they sure made it a special celebration this year. What a great way to spend my evening with Irene & Steve - walking through all the beautiful captivating lights and seeing all the hard work put in to create the tunnels, Christmas trees, decorations, wreaths. It was a truly beautiful night with even better company. We've been coming here for years and each year they impress me! The first day was hectic with the parade and block party - so we had to turn back and come Sunday instead. It was worth it! If you come during the weeknights, it will be surely less busy. Just prepare if you come on the weekends for the crowds. Free parking!

We drove by the place and it was lovely and beautiful! It's better that you park somewhere else and walking by this area! There are a huge Santa and Mrs. Claus waiting to greet you! :) Night light ornamentations are brilliant and cute!! It's a nice dating spot for sure! Highly recommended! Cheers

It's an annual thing we do at Christmas. This year there were even more lights thanks to the donation by Show Aloha land. The tunnels were so cool! This year was the best yet! There was a larger area to walk around. It was such fun checking out the trees and wreaths as usual. It got super crowded after sunset. Parking in the underground municipal lot can be tight on weekends. Just to right thing to get into the Christmas mood!

Another amazing year at city lights! We love taking the kids to see the lights, trees, and wreaths. It's fun and something that is uniquely Honolulu. Going during the week is much calmer than the weekend. Also, loving the additions of the light tunnels and characters from Show Aloha Land. This is a great FREE event for non-scrooges of all ages. Come, get some steps and enjoy some holiday cheer!

Check out the photos and you will See what a wonderful event the Honolulu City Lights display, Christmas tree displays and wreath contest are worth 3-4 hours of your time. What a great way to get into the holiday spirit and appreciate the aloha spirit alive and well. Enjoy!

Check out the Honolulu City Lights 2024! It's the 40th anniversary and the City and County of Honolulu did an amazing job. The light decorations were beautiful there were SO many beautiful whimsical lighted decorations and they have 2 tunnels that are super cool also. Upgraded from previous years perfect to take your family or date! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

12-27-23 The holiday season just wouldn't be the same without viewing the decorations and themed light displays starting from Honolulu Hale. We even passed Iolani Palace regally lit up in purple, not flashy but very stately and in the spirit. This year we just drove around the block turned at the Board of Water Supply which also had a light display. People were still walking around the grounds to view the lights. Being 2 days after Xmas, the holiday trolley was lit up but just parked on a side street. Personally it seemed the 3 cauldesacs in Mililani were lit up and more festive as probably other neighborhoods around Oahu. Glad this is an on-going tradition to celebrate the season. It holds a special memory as a couple I know even became engaged one Christmas here among the crowds and lights. Haven't been inside to see the decorated trees in years but there's always next year.

Loved the city light drive around downtown Honolulu. I drove around 3 times. Took a few pics as my friend drove around. It's well laid out. Many new displays like the lighted tunnels and cool triangle like lit trees. It was a good happy crowd. Be sure to still keep an eye on valuables. Hold on to your bags.

Nice to see the Honolulu City Lights thriving downtown. So many families as well as singles enjoying themselves. Love that there are multiple displays, from giant outside displays to Christmas tree contests to Christmas wreaths created by our keiki. There was even a few food vendors set up to feed the hungry crowds. I enjoyed a savory empanada at the LA2HI grinds concession. Thank you Mayor for continuing this tradition down at Honolulu Hale.

Nice night to look at 40th Anniversary displays. Wow so many lights that move. Two tunnels. Some old favorites and a lot of new favorites. Some ads for the sponsers are new. Not too crowded. Clear skies. Parking lot had empty stalls. Displays still worked. Many people taking selfies and videos. Go check it out.

Beautiful holiday decorations available for viewing every December throughout the month. The State and City and County of Honolulu go all out with an amazing show of lights and decorations for the end of year celebrations. Various companies sponsor additional holiday displays as well. We decided to take these pictures at dawn rather than in the evening.

Despite a quick shower, there was plenty of music. One of the groups was family members of Moani in IMP. They are a reggae group, and had the crowd moving to the reggae vibes. We lucked out we got parking on the ground floor inside one of the conventions rooms (so worth the $15, walk right out the door to the entry to festival). Loved loved loved the festival, highlighting Japanese culture and arts and featuring local made in hawaii vendors our goal was to donate and participate in the genki ala wai click on link for more info: https://genkialawai.org/ It was an amazing experience and to hear from the director about the project was so inspiring. We will definitely go assist this project when they have events. Walked every aisle and found some unique and amazing locally made products. Stood in the loooong sake tasting line, was worth the wait, interesting and unique flavors we never knew existed. Our fav was the one we tried from the nagaoka vendor, very smooth. Had only one food concession with 2 Japanese items curry rice and okonomiyaki fries - we ordered one of each and both were super good but the fries was the winnah! Sorry no picture we were standing in sake line eating and drinking Caught some of the acts on stage and interesting to see true Japanese arts, but the best was seeing Crossing Rain on stage. Last we stopped at the Kyoto Marketplace, that was interesting, they only took script and could only buy in increments of $20, so no matter how wisely you shopped you would have a few tickets extra (which we saw people giving away so we gave our 2 extra away, can't buy anything with 2 tickets). Picked up rice crackers, shrimp chips and croquette (these were delish and warm). Finally stop, the front redemption booth, they have a scan code throughout the festival and if you scan all of it you get a a prize, then at the same booth there is a scan code to review the festival and after review you get a chance to spin for a prize, we won honolulu festival shirts from 2020 (the last festival here). Our highlight was seeing the nagaoka fireworks display, they had the actual firework on display and even the mega ball cut so you can see how many balls inside the mega ball. Never seen fireworks of that size and so nice to see how it looks before going into the sky! I can say we walked away with some amazing freebies at the festival. Having been to Honolulu over the years, we never had the chance to partake in the festival activities. I had always thought the Festival was an event promoting Hawaiian culture but from being here, I found out his was the 30th year for this cultural event that promotes mutual understanding, economic cooperation and ethnic harmony between the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim region. Over 2,300 participants from Japan and other countries were here to participate in this Festival with events at the Convention Center, Ala Moana Shopping Center and Waikiki Beach Walk. I went to the Saturday events at the Convention Center. On the main performance stage, there were 25 various performance acts of traditional, dance, musical cheerleading, and a singing performance by Hitomi Shimitani to conclude. There were art and craft vendors and a sake and food fest section with free sample offerings. Love the sake and beer tastings, cookie and cracker tastings and a sushi making workshop. Due to the Kona storms that hit Hawaii during this week, I was disappointed that the Grand Parade and the Nagaoka Fireworks to conclude the festival were cancelled. I will plan to be back again next year for this Festival and look forward to the Parade and famous fireworks.

DO YOUR RESEARCH I highly recommend researching which vendors are going and what booth they will be at. Once you get that information, look at the map and make a route. Then once you hit all the places you want to go to you can explore. I feel like people get so overwhelmed from not knowing where to go.. I did not know that this Festival has been around for 16 years! I did not know that there were 4 different stages (we only sat at one). I did not know that tickets ranged from $40 to $50, $60, $75 and $125 for VIP. The Event was to start at 7pm. My friends and I jumped in to one car and caught a ride to the Park. There was a line already formed before 6:45pm. We read the signs that no food was allowed. Being the good, thrifty Pakes, we quickly devoured the food we had packed and drank our bottled water. However, free water was distributed inside the Festival to prevent dehydration. We didn't really need the water because there was a cool, gentle breeze and the sun had gone down by that time. The line moved along at a steady pace. The first security stop was for ticket collection. We got our first wrist band there. They also searched our bags for food and weapons. We were all asked for our ID's at the next stop. The people under 21 went through a separate line and the rest of us received a second wrist band. Very organized!! Inside, there were many vendors selling snacks, caps, shirts, neon items, shades, etc. We found a safe place on a grassy hill and sat on our towels and beach mats. We were able to observe all the great dance moves by the audience and the awesome scaffolded stage-like structure. It was a huge cube-like audio-visual smoke machine with colorful lighting. The young people sang along to songs I had never heard! Hahaha! Overall, we had a great time and we would go again next year! Thanks again to Emi and Yelp Hawaii for this special opportunity!!

When I first heard about this festival I thought I would not being going. The idea of spending a…read morelot on a ticket and being unsure if it'd be worth it is not one of my favorite thoughts. Thank you to Yelp for the tickets, I went and thoroughly enjoyed myself! I would definitely go back in the future. To start, this event was in my favorite park in Honolulu, Kaka'ako near Ward Centres and right on the waterfront. The hills made the perfect venue to have multiple stages that didn't interfere (sound-wise) with one another. Walking toward the park that night, I could hear music and see multi-colored spotlights shining on the clouds. The entrance was organized and there were plenty of bouncers to point the way. There was practically no line to get in. Tickets were also available for purchase at the door. My guest and I spent the majority of the time in the 21+ section, which had a full service bar including special cocktails for the event. The portions ended up being generous and the bartenders were very fun and friendly. The main stage was a visual feast- bright colors, smoke, lasers, and bubble machines. Some DJs were better than others- I liked the guy from Amsterdam the best. There was free water available, and countless portapotties in the center of the park- I never had to wait, always many open. The park's many grassy areas offered plenty of places to stand, dance, or lay down and watch the stars. The ocean was close as well. All in all, I loved this event; it's great for people of all ages and interests!
