The Bike Shop - Probably the biggest choice of bikes in the region.

Not too good for buying mountain bikes, but OK for lots of other things…read more I've been into The Bike Shop on Crossgates Road quite a few times over the last few weeks as I have been in the process of buying bikes for myself and my fiance. It's great for the casual cyclist. However, and it's quite a big however, they don't have that much choice of manufactures and they don't have a lot of bikes out on display. For example, they only had Specialized women's bikes built up and in the store. Their other relatively high-end manufacturer is Kona and they have some pricing issues at the moment as most people will be aware. On the plus side, the staff are extremely helpful, and they have a very good selection of kids bikes, BMX and commuter cycles. Although we bought our bikes elsewhere, we did go back to this store to purchase a car rack and a fair few other accessories and they were really helpful showing me how to set the bike rack up on my car.

So we looked at lots of specialsed bike shops that were really out of our price range. We thought Evans are a big company we will get the range we need. They had 2 bikes in the store to suit our price range but the staff were worse than disinterested. We couldn't pry the information we needed out of the member of staff. We went back on the internet and found the Bike Shop on Crossgates Road, Leeds. What an amazing experience! A massive range of quality bikes. The staff are so helpful and can't do enough for you. I can highly recommend The Bike Shop, we need 2 more bikes next year and will definitely be going back. A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER

It's a coop where the staff are passionate, knowledgeable and cater to all customer types. In stock are great brands such as Surly and Brompton. They won't try to force you to buy something off the shelf, they will help you customise it and go the extra mile e.g. offering to loan us a bike so bf could accompany me home and giving us flapjacks! Purchase also comes with 3 free services after which bike is a good as new.

While Neil M. makes an obvious and valid point about the larger stock of Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op, I don't feel that is necessarily a deal-breaker against buying a bike from The Bicycle Doctor which is still quite sizeable. Plus, I get the feeling that the stock offered by The Bicycle Doctor is quite savvy in its own way, with some unique products which may be hard to find elsewhere in Manchester. For example, an electric bike by Trek at £1,700 and a rainbow of cute pastel-coloured Brompton folding bikes both suggest that people are spending serious money here - in fact I don't think EBC stock electric bikes at all. I parted with cash for an interestingly versatile 100% merino wool 'buff', which can be to protect and the cold and UV also, plus a neat pair of cycling sunglasses which several people have asked me where I bought them from. I am in the market for cycle panniers, and I will definitely consider buying them from the good Bicycle Doctor, especially since they stock the high-end Ortlieb roll-top waterproof designs and even had four or so different colours in stock. On the repairs front, their website states that all their mechanics are Cytech-certified which sounds good enough to me! Lastly, The Bicycle Doctor allocates a significant corner of their precious floorspace to a rack of cycling leaflets detailing local routes, mass rides, and cycle-friendly tourism further afield - an authentic touch which typifies this Workers' Co-op which has been 'Serving the Cycling Community for over 25 years'. Thanks, Doc - you left me feeling good, and good to go!

How could she spend more on her bike than on her car? I didn't understand at all, nor did I understand what the big deal was, why the tears and the long face, if it was me I'd be sulking over knackering up my front end by smashing it into a tree on a cross country type bike ride and having to pay for it. She was scared to death that the integrity of her 'baby' had been compromised. The money was no object, just the quality of the service and repair. Alright then, catch you later, let me know how it goes, I called to her only to realise I was being dragged into the car with her. Damn. The three of us, me, she and the bike pull up at Bikology, it doesn't look much from the outside, but I was assured this was the place to go. Again with the cuddling of the bike, we wander in and are greeted by a smiley chappy who seemed to telepathically sense my friend's utter sense of loss. Taking it off her, they both engaged in mutual admiration of the bike, sorry Marin. He feels her pain, says it'll take a while, but it's totally fixable, he can have it as good as new. She asks a pitiful "do you promise?", followed by more reassurances. A few days later, we return, the bike looks all pretty again, and she seemed super pleased. It was a lot of money in my opinion, but again I was reassured this was a bargain, and after a test ride, she swore it was worth every penny. So excellent place to go if you've got a two wheeled treasure in sincere need of some TLC.

So if you're thinking of setting yourself up on two wheels, or have an old bike that needs repairing, this emporium of all things bike is a must-visit. With new and custom build bikes at competitive prices, a workshop for servicing and repairs and friendly, knowledgeable staff, you feel that you're getting real advice to suit your needs here, rather than the hard sell you'd get at a larger chain store. For the more seasoned cyclists they do a 'bike MOT' from £30, and the fact that they also service unicycles reminds you, in case you forget, that you are in Hyde Park after all...

This shop is based in the Kingsgate Centre in Huddersfield…read more You have to access Sports Direct via a lift / escalator / stairs and inside they have all your sport clothes & shoes and also sporting equipment such as golf clubs, footballs, tennis rackets etc. Everything is of a reasonable price. Customer care and organisation was not part of their 'employee handbook'. Where some of the staff are really nice and helpful, others are the complete opposite. I went in the other day to exchange some shoes I had bought for my daughter, I was told that I had to go and get a pair I wanted and then come back to exchange them, fair enough so I went on my way. Of course they'd completely rearranged the shoe department and I was running around like a headless chicken trying to find these damned shoes, so I ask an employee to help me. He looked at me and then pointed........POINTED! That's all he did! Didn't even say a flamin' word to me! So off I went to look through the tower of boxes. I find the shoe I want and underneath the shoes you go down the tower of boxes to find the size you require. I find the size, so I do a bit of 'Giant Jenga' to get this box out safetly without the whole thing crashing down and I manage with success :D Proud moment lol. I open the box to find that it's not the same shoe grrrrr. I read every box in the section and not a single one is in white even though the display shoes are showing white ones (Not the size I want). All throughout the shoe section this happens! You find a shoe and you expect the boxes below to contain it. NOPE The organisation of stock is terrible and I go in there WANTING to rearrange it all! I ask the employee at the till and ask him if he can find the certain shoe I'm after on his computer but he tells me they can't do that, it's not how their system works.........We are in the 21st century aren't we? I thought that was what computers were there for - files, stock, till use etc? I find a different pair and I have to pay extra for them and I explain to the man at the till about the way the other employee just 'pointed' for me and he just looks at me blankly.....? I'm confused lol. At the end of the transaction he does tell me that employees shouldn't just point and should be more helpful but nothing was done and he didn't ask who it was. Trainers are bad quality too, infact I later find a simular pair that I wanted in Priceless Shoes! Typical!
