Honfleur sits on the south side of the Seine River estuary. The port dates from the 13th century and was once very important as a gateway between Paris and the world. Its northern rival port, Le Havre, overshadowed it centuries ago, leaving the charming 15th-17th century houses and buildings that make it so remarkable and popular today. It is an atraction for travelers and holidaymakers both foreign and domestic. It has attracted many notable artists (Monet, Satie, Boudin, etc) with its laid back charm. One of my favorites, and a very poular tourisr spot, the vibrant waterfront is a must see. This town has the most authentic half-timbered houses of any village around. We wandered miriad streets well off the tourist route and found several half-timbered neighborhoods. No wonder Monet and Boudin enjoyed painting here. Lots of great restaurants serving moules, crepes, and local seafood surround the quaint harbor. read more

Honfleur is in a word, "Beautiful." One of the most relaxing places I have ever been to. This wonderful seaside town is just what you see in the movies. Not far from the beaches in Normandy , I often wonder wat is was like here. The beautiful harbor is just loaded with small boats and adds to the beauty of Honfleur. We were coming here as a tour group when the ship docked in Le Harve, but the tour guide never made it. We came anyway and just strolled the streets. It was a short bus ride from the post. Around the water are small cafes, restaurants and plenty of gift shops. As a photographer, I truly capitalized on this picturesque spot. I truly recommend this village if you're on a cruise ship. It's definately worth the exploration, even if you just sit at the carousel and watch the families and children who come here. KUDOs to the beauty of Honfleur. read more

I'm so glad we got to see via a walking tour this quaint and charming little port town that I never heard of. The town dates back to the 12th century and there are still quite a few buildings still standing from the 1500's. The town has a quaint and scenic inner harbor which acts like the vibrant town square and commercial center. The town also houses the largest wooden church in France in which the bell tower is separated from the principal building due the structural need to support the weight of the church bell. Also, very interestingly, explorer Samuel de Champlain who actually founded Quebec City in modern day Canada, actually set sail with his expedition from this very town to do so in 1608! It was no wonder this little town had the same charm we once saw and felt ourselves in Quebec City, except this town has a 200 year older charm than even Quebec City's! This place is no secret to the locals though as it is a very popular summer tourist destination amongst the French. read more

A really beautiful old city, harbor and seaside resort. Lots of character, upmarket and fun. Open air markets, museums and countless restaurants, bars and brasseries. It is a beautiful coastline drive to or from nearby Deauville. Definitely worth a visit :) read more

Really cute place! Bit of quiet and cold in a Novemeber. I can only imagine how much nicer it would be when it's warmer. Perks of coming on a non-peak season is that we're not waiting to be seated on restaurants, and we got a really really cute and cheap place just one day before coming to Honfleur. So glad we came! Wanna come back in the near future. read more
