Handy Man: REVIEW:…read moreMr. Handyman Wilmington NC. Based on my personal experience, do not hire these people to do anything. I needed a 2-plug electrical outlet relocated on the wall and replaced with a 4-plug outlet and a TV mounted on that wall with a mount that I had purchased. Mr. H quoted a price based on that description. I questioned if they should see the job first and was told no, the price is firm. The worker arrived at 9:30AM. Due to his incompetence he was here all day and had very little if any experience, as he was consulting "How To YouTube" Videos on his phone for every step of the job. He didn't have the tools and supplies needed and had to run to Lowes to purchase them. As he began to mount the TV he asked if I had a socket for his drill that would fit the head of the lag bolt for screwing into the stud, because it was too hard to do by hand. I went to a neighbor who let me borrow one, which he slyly tossed in his tool bucket and took it with him when he left. He finished around 4:30PM and showed me that the outlet worked by testing one of the plugs. When paying the bill on his computer tablet which showed an amount due of $560.00. The quote was $390.00. The worker phoned Mr. H and put me on the phone, and he explained that because he was here for many hours, he needed to charge me extra and for the other supplies he bought at Lowes, which were a spackling trowel and a large tub of spackle. I explained his flawed logic of me having to pay for his worker's tools, a large tub of spackle and hours that were never mentioned in the quote and paid the original price quoted. That evening, my wife and I settled in to watch TV, but now the TV would not function. I spent 3 hours on the phone with LG TV and Direct TV trying to figure out why I have a picture but cannot connect to Direct TV. We discovered that two of the new four outlets were not working. The worker came back the next morning and fixed it, using YouTube instructions again on his phone. I also took back the socket he stole and returned it to my neighbor. FINALLY finished? NOPE! That night I replaced a burned-out bulb in a lamp on an adjoining wall to the TV. It wasn't the bulb. Two of our wall outlets were not working because he created a short circuit in the new TV outlet. So much for his grasp of YouTube instructions. NOW, Mr. Handyman had to hire a REAL electrician to come out and fix it, which he did. The Electrician confirmed that it was hooked up so badly that he was surprised anything worked. I will be sending this experience to the corporate headquarters of the Mr. Handyman Franchise. R. I don't know what the problems the previous reviewer had, but for my husband and I, finding Jeff of…read moreAdvanced Handyman Services was a one of the best finds we have ever encoutered. Jeff is personable, knowledgeable and detail oriented about the work to be done. We trusted Jeff and his wonderful crew to have access to our new home before we moved in. They took great care to respect our home and belongings. The work, which involved a great deal of carpentry work around all of our windows was done to perfection. As well, they installed a beautiful backsplash in the kitchen, installed four fans and installed a new closet system in the master closet. All done and completed in a timely manner. We will be using Advanced Handyman in the future for additional projects we have. Oh, did I mention how fairly the job was priced out? In the end there were no hidden or suprise extra costs. Great company. You can't go wrong hiring Jeff.

If you are looking for high quality work, particularly finishing work, this is not the business to…read morehire. We had quite a job spec'd out and while the major work was completed, there were problems. The project was estimated to take 10 days. It took 22 days. It was claimed the delay was because of rain, however, the rain was only a few days out of that 22 so we are not clear as to why the job took as long as it did. Things became concerning for us when we didn't hear from Jeff much during the process (not one picture was sent) and were told each weekend that the project was not done and not to come out to the house. Then we received a phone call that our builder sprayed something in the walls and that he to scrape it all out. It was the foam insulation that we paid extra for. Shouldn't he have known what it was? By now we are getting worried. When we finally did make it to the house, we found it a complete mess (to be fair we were warned). At first glance and into the next day, the work at least (minus the mess) seemed adequate until we began looking more closely. It started to become upsetting. The drywall, trim, and painting work was absolutely terrible and we are now having to hire someone to fix it. A $200 cloth blind was ruined with a few paint drips yet there was no concern and we were told it was okay because you can't see it. This is an unacceptable response. On a positive, the framing and relocation of the window seem to be okay. Other things were incomplete such as threshold for garage door and seals on an exterior door were not installed. Key we left him was left outside which was not cleared with us. Neighbors observed them spending more time sitting outside than working. Overall, this was not the best work we've seen. Jeff is a nice person who has general construction knowledge, just not extensive knowledge. Finishing work is seriously lacking in quality and there seemed to be little concern for 100% customer satisfaction. There is a lack of professionalism at times. Should you do decide to go with this contractor, make sure the quote is highly itemized as to exactly what will and will not be done.
