When I read about 33 Dowanhill on Yelp it sounded perfect, so I booked up asap. I was met by the lovely Joanna and she very quickly made me feel at ease. We initially discussed my current skin care regime and what I wanted to get out of my appointment. This was done in a really relaxed manner and I felt able to admit the cardinal sin - I use face wipes!!! Eek! I popped myself into the facial room, it was just heavenly. Beautiful décor throughout and the bed was extremely comfortable and heated, just bliss! The facial itself was amazing. Jo used a variety of products and techniques during the facial which left my skin feeling so fresh and soft. These included facial massage, lymphatic drainage and use of pressure point techniques which helps in reducing wrinkles and improves blood circulation. Bringing the facial to a close I received a lovely head massage. A few days after the treatment my skin was glowing and I decided to contacted Jo to request a product box. She devised a personalised prescription for my individual skin needs. This included products for an AM and PM regime, to help maintain and improve my current skin. She provided a detailed description of how to use each product; when and how much. I feel I have now turned a corner in my skin care regime and that's all thanks to Jo. I really trust her professional judgement on what products to use, and I now have the confidence (with her guidance) to deviate from the traditional high street brands. I was also surprised that these don't all come with a high price tag. I cannot recommend 33 Dowanhill enough. I had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. It has the most beautiful relaxed atmosphere, and you are certainly in very capable hands!

Joanna, the owner,…read morehas used a palette of warm and calming neutrals with elegant finishing touches to create a peaceful haven in Glasgow's busy West End. Joanna herself is a real pleasure to meet, and of course her skin is glowing. With no brand association, Joanna is free to choose the best products available on the market, allowing her to create a bespoke Signature Facial for you. The product range includes Merumaya, Pixi, Oskia, Ermana, Isla Apothecary to name a few. When it came to the facial itself we had a discussion about my skin, my main areas of concern, and what products she might use... As the facials are completely bespoke for each individual, there is an option for all products used to be natural - this is particularly useful for those who are trying to avoid all chemicals, for example, if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, for those with particularly sensitive skin, or for those with particular health reasons. The facial itself was pure bliss, just over one hour of facial massage, pressure point work, lymphatic drainage and head massage. I didn't want it to end but was looking forward to seeing what the results would be, as I have recently been finding my skin very dehydrated, and have noticed my fine lines around my eyes have been much more visible. Immediately after the facial my skin felt amazing, but was a little flushed following the massage. It was the next morning that I really noticed the improvement in the appearance of my skin. My skin was visibly more hydrated and smoother, and I definitely noticed an improvement around my eye area. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Joanna's Signature Facials. Even 1-2 weeks after my facial, I am still noticing an improvement in my skin compared to before my visit to 33 Dowanhill. I don't think I have ever noticed such lasting results following a facial before, and you can't beat the confidence that comes with good skin.

I've been looking for something for dehydrated skin (the bane of my life) and decided to pop in here to see if I could get some help. Now this review was nearly a 2-star because the staff initially seemed a bit like they couldn't be assed and I was struggling to catch someone's else even though I'd been loitering in the skin care area for ages. Finally I got someone to help me and she was great - actually really helpful, showing me the products and happily gave me decent sized mini tubs to take home and try. I mean, if I'm going to spend £60 on moisturiser, I want to make sure it's amazing. This store is also a lot bigger than I expected and has a range of candles/bubble baths. If you're looking for something a bit more upmarket than Boots/Superdrug for your skin care and makeup, then Space NK is pretty damn amazing.

They stock NARS, Laura Mercier and stunning Shu Uemura eyelashes that will definitely make a statement. The staff are very helpful and you can get free consultations on the best products for your skin and tips on getting a flawless complection. I was once put in the direction of "Dr. Seabagh Foaming Cleanser" after a couple of months of breakout hell. I'd tried everything and this was a last resort, It wasn't cheap, £22 for 100ml bottle and I was sceptical but I decided to give it a go. It cleared up my skin in about 5 days, it was like a miracle! I swore by the stuff for nearly two years but then I moved to Germany for ten months and it stopped working. It could have been the water there but I haven't used it since. I might pop back soon to give it another shot as when it worked the results were fantastic and I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for quick results for breakouts. As far as I'm aware Space NK is the only stockist in Glasgow, hurrah! They used to stock loads of Philosophy products but they don't have so many anymore. My favourite purchase from here was a lipgloss set from Philosophy which was called "A Few Good Men", these men were, "The Muffin Man" - a lemon muffin flavoured lipgloss, "The Gingerbread Man" - a tasty gingerbread lipgloss and my favourite, "The Ice-Cream Man." Unfortunately they don't have this set anymore, but who knows, maybe one day they'll make a return. Space NK is great, quite expensive but sometimes you need to pay that little bit extra when it comes to cosmetics. They also do sales now and then so you could grab yourself a bargain!

We rang up on Sunday morning and managed to each get an appointment for around 3pm for massages…read more We arrived and were given questionnaires to complete with our details. There was a little confusion as I hadn't specifically wanted either the 3pm or 3:20pm slot, I just booked them both for myself and my friend, however despite it making more sense for my friend to go in the first slot, they wouldn't change our times around. The room for the massage was nice, standard massage room really. Although they do have electronic beds to adjust the height, which I gather for shorter people than me (5ft 10) this would come in useful, plus it is heated. Although I did ask half way through for the heat to be turned off as I felt like I was being cooked...but that's just me and heat! The massage itself was good, she did as I asked and didn't shy away from the painful parts (no pain no gain)! A complementary facial had been included which was basic but relaxing. I advised her of my sensitive skin so she used the sensitive lotions, which still stung slightly, but I've had worse! Arriving back at reception my masseuse, Natalie, had left a postcard advising me to get more massages to help with the problem areas, which was sweet, and giving me another excuse to get more :) Based on my experiences alone I would recommend them, however my friend who was with me didn't have such a good time. She didn't have a heated bed, which was a shame since she is the heat lover, and her masseuse didn't follow her instructions and performed a relaxing massage rather than one that tackled the knots. Overall, I'd probably go back if I was in the area or couldn't get into a more local one. It's handy as it is in Silverburn, up the stairs to the left of Yo-Sushi/Debenhams, if you are there for some shopping too, and the premises is very modern and stylish. Price wise, it was £32 for half an hour of massage, with the complementary facial. It's a little on the pricer side, I guess due to it's location.

I loved the facial and will certainly try and make it a regular treat. My skin definitely looked and felt better and the massage was amazing.

My fringe was at that annoying length where it's a general hindrance. I like my fringe shorter but…read moreI'm always leaving cuts till the ends are touching my eyelids, which can be unpleasant. My preferred fringe length is quite a bit above my eyebrows so, by this point a fringe-scissors meeting is overdue. I usually always realise this before I'm headed somewhere and short of time. - Today was no different. I had a train to catch, and my usual hairdressers wasn't en route. So, instead, I decided to pop in to Narcissus which, conveniently, was on the way. They'd also just recently moved to bigger premises. I entered to about 10-12 members of staff all standing formally, as if there was a meeting or training session happening. All of them looking directly at me; no warm welcome or friendly smiles. This made me feel unwelcome and a little bit anxious of what was to come. It wasn't long after five o'clock. I asked if they were closed, and was told that they were open for another twenty minutes. So, maybe we got off to a bad start. Maybe we can fix things. After all, I came here instead of Toni & Guy and Rainbow Room along the road because I want to support small, local businesses and giving everywhere a shot. And for all the reluctancy to begin, I can't complain about the haircut. It was quick with minimal chat. And I get it: it was approaching close on a Saturday; they just wanted to go home. But if you say, 'thank you' and don't direct me to the till before I go, or start with the fact that there'll be a small cost, I will head for the door. Albeit, I'll be awkward and slow and think 'should I have paid?' but I'm clearly new to the salon and this should be made clear. I definitely don't mind paying for a fringe trim at all, but it's awkward when this isn't clear either from the beginning, or directly after the haircut. This isn't something the customer should have to ask and don't make them guess. So I headed for the door. There was a shout; I think from more than one. - 'It's two pounds!' they said and pointed to a tip jar. I headed back, feeling humiliated; like the butt of a joke for their inner circle; like they had placed a bet beforehand on whether I would try to leave without paying. I only had a ten pound note so apologised and handed it over. She handed me back the change and said 'have you paid the fringe trim charge?' It wasn't in the nicest of tones, and I was confused. Of course I hadn't and I don't possibly see why she would think that I had. - She had given me ten pound coins back and I'd to put the two in myself. Was this punishment? She could have just as easily taken the two from the note I'd given her. So, I don't have nice things to say for Narcissus. And, in turn, that doesn't feel nice. I do okay socially but I imagine if you had social anxiety or any kind of social barrier, something like this could really have the potential to drag you down, especially after striking up the courage to try somewhere new and unfamiliar. Whether it's 10am or 5pm, a new customer or an old one, all customers should be treated the same. A great customer experience has the power to really make someone's day, and there are great independent businesses which are testament to this. I think that Narcissus has some growing up to do in this respect.

I…read moretherefore believe that I am more qualified than most to talk about customer service, standards, friendliness and the ambience of this well established business. I started to read with some interest the comments made by Ms Nicola C on her recent experience in the Narcissus salon as I did not recognise any of the traits that she has placed in her review. Then my interest started to wain towards boredom as she became more self obsessed. I foolishly believed she was going to enlighten me but no sadly she did not. Instead I believe that she has unfairly put the boot in. Maybe she was having an off day? It definitely sounded like it as she whitters on about her restricted timetable, train journey, supporting small businesses and above all the annoying length of her fringe that she had allowed to grow into her eye line. As for the way she believed that she had been looked at by the team I believe this was is down to nothing more than how she was feeling about herself. Sometimes low self esteem can cloud ones judgement! As stated I have been visiting this salon both in the old premises and the new for 12 years. There is not a tip box on display nor has there even been one so where on earth this comment came from goodness only knows perhaps Ms C was on a parallel universe and as she visits so many varied salons become confused? I am not someone who makes appointments in advance, however I do phone last minute to get in to which the phone is always answered quickly and politely and it has never been an issue to fit me in even on their busiest of days. I am always offered a tea or coffee when I enter and my jacket is placed on a stand. I have always found the service to be of the highest standard, professional, personal and extremely attentive too. The truth of the matter is that this is a friendly and welcoming team who offer outstanding service and their prices are more than realistic when compared to the likes of than toni & guy. You will be met with a warm welcome with a friendly smile. There is a real buzz about this salon and the team are like little worker ants always busying themselves and keeping the place looking smart and presentable as well as offering their expert advice. It has always been a pleasure to visit and I am sure that this will not change in the foreseeable future. Not forgetting that they do a great job of cutting and styling hair too. Ms C I believe that Toni & Guy are welcome to your business and am sure that the occasional £2 fringe cut will not be missed by this small business. If it is I will be sure to drop it in as a tip on each trip. Message to Narcissus perhaps you should start a Tip Box as I am sure that you are all more than deserving and the loyal customers I am sure already value and recognise you. Thank you Paul C A real supporter of small businesses in the community.

Mind you they can be quite pricey, but this has all got to do with the image their trying to project, as well as the various treatments they offer. As usual I haven't heard of most of them, but was particularly curious about the rainforest shower. Thankfully, I have a friend who has actually been to the Amazon (they come in REALLY handy!) and basically it's a room with showerheads all over the ceiling, so it seems as though it's raining in the room. Ofcourse if you'd rather just have a facial and a massage, they do that as well. They've got two pools, one of which is thermal, and a gym for those who'd rather "feel the burn" than relax, though I'd rather get in the sauna when there's that alternative.
