But a note to management: In our mid-70's, we found the bathtub/shower to be quite dangerous: (1) Shower is in a bathtub with rounded edges at the floor and very slick bathtub bottom; (2) No grabrail in the bathtub/shower. Quite dangerous for older people. Also: Our King room came with a chaise lounge. I would have much preferred a simple upholstered chair; perhaps with a footstool.

The amenities, cleanliness, and layout were much to my liking. Breakfast was about as good as I found in any hotel in the area, with eggs and sausage rounding out an otherwise continental offering. Also, the price was among the lowest in the area. In fact, it was the same price as the Econo Lodge in LeMars, which was one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. I would say this is an excellent choice.

Everything about our room - the decor, the bed, the attached sitting room, the private balcony was amazing. The lake is a block away and the stroll along the lake and into the park was tranquil, quiet and clean. Breakfast was wonderful (and huge!). Chris gave us a tour of the home and the history. We were able to see every other guest room and all were beautiful. This was our first time to Storm Lake, but we will most definitely return and stay at The Gables. We would have loved to have had more time to explore the antique shops and nice downtown - next time! (If you love antiques, Walnut is only a little over an hour away..........the entire town is antique stores and you must stop at Roberts Bakery!)

I found my stay here to be adequate. It was a bit pricey at well over $100 a night, but that is probably a function of my timing, which was at a very busy time for them. In fact, there were no rooms available for many of the days I was traveling. I dealt mostly with Donna, who was very accommodating and helpful in a stressful time when she seemed to be the only person working. She managed to keep breakfast stocked (a typical eggs and sausage affair) as well as manage the desk. My room was nice and left little room for complaint. On that note, the internet was very slow at times but overall that was not an issue.

Building & Rooms Lobby and breakfast area were clean and modern. As with most Hampton's there was a small snack shop with a good selection of hot and cold items. Breakfast was great with a variety of choices each morning. Pool was typical for the hotel size and located right next to the elevators. Pool area was clean with a rest room attached. Only concerns were the lack of a hot tub and a limited supply of towels next to the pool on both stays at the hotel. Room quality was excellent. The only issue experienced is that one of the rooms did not have a functional outlet/charger port next to the TV. Staff & Service Probably one of the friendliest staffs I've experienced at a Hampton in recent years. Staff were knowledgeable about the local area and happily provided recommendations.
