Beware, I bought a kitchen from Homebase which I was going to pay cash, the salesman offered interest free so I agreed, I then found myself filling out a creditcard application, when the card arrived I cut it up because I had no intention of using it. The cost of the kitchen was just under £3000 and I paid £1000 on the first bill and another £1000 on the second month, the statements tell you the minimum payment due and this was showing zero so I started reducing my payments knowing that when the minimum payment showed a sum of money I would pay it off immediately. The statement arrived in January showing £199 to be paid by the 21st, so I paid it on the 9th of January, to my horror I received a statement for £177.88p interest, I phoned them to ask why this was and they said that the interest free option ended on the 2nd of January did I not receive a letter? to wich I replied no, I was told if I wanted to complain I had to do it in writing, I have paid the interest balance a week ago knowing that if I didn't I would be charged more interest, this payment has not been debited from my account yet, I suspect this is to accrue further interest. I would advise anyone offered interest free at Homebase to think very carefully, I am making a complaint to the financial ombudsman when I receive a reply from Homebase. I contacted Homebase and they have refunded the interest, they showed compassion and understanding. read more
