He showed up and checked in everyday in the hospital room!! All staff were courteous and professional minus one nurse. From check in with Vicki, CNA, gentleman drawing blood, to the OTs and PTs. Lovely. All the nurses except one were very attentive, understanding, supportive! It was clear a caring system is put in place for the patients. Michelle was his overnight nurse the first highly critical night and 2nd after surgery. She was vigilant, kind, and went above and beyond! Unfortunately, one daytime nurse lacked care figuratively and literally. The patient was a fall risk. Required to call anytime moving out of bed. Several times called needing help to walk to the bathroom never came, called to communicate the patient had to walk alone, still a no show. Even a time said the next shift nurse will dump out what was left. Really late on giving pain meds, every time she mentioned she would come back to fill the patient's water etc never did. This nurse was snippy towards a family member yet called the patient "honey", off and inappropriate. Thankfully we spoke with Kent CNA, asked for presence and help and he was super! All around services were great. On discharge day the nurse was Ann. Thank heavens bc she was wonderful, thorough and patient. Ann helped get prescriptions delivered to the room and patient was accompanied out on a wheelchair. Food service is able to be tailored for the patient. It isn't the best food but better than others. They have an ER at this location which is open 24 hours M-F. They also have an Express Care Clinic which is open in the afternoons to about 2100 hours M-F. Then the same clinic is open on Saturdays from like 0800 or 0900 to maybe 1400. They also have a Silver Clinic/Same Day clinic that is open 0800-1600 M-F but your Primary Care Team can only schedule you into that clinic if they cannot see you right away. Lastly they have a Triage Nurse Care Line that is open locally from 0700-1900 and then it goes to another call center clinic after 1900 or on/during holidays and weekends. The local triage nurse care line has nurses, pharmacy technicians to speak with so they can reorder meds, and a APRN/NP assigned to them. The Nurse Practitioner will treat you over the phone in a timely manner. This hospital is for VETERANS ONLY!

In a word I felt heard, respected with no indication of being rushed. Our son (1 yo) had a double ear infection on a Sunday and they were able to see us within minutes of getting there. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The environment was extremely clean and taken care of. Jen was so friendly and good with our son. The nursing staff on the recovery floor were eager to help us learn how to take care of our first baby, as we are pretty much clueless! And, and many people noted to us, the food was very good. The only recommendation I would have is for some more proactive accommodations for the dads/support people who stay with the new mom and baby. Totally get that the mom and baby are the patients, but little things like having two towels in the bathroom instead of one, would go a long way in making their extended stay easier too.
