We were excited for this hotel and wanted to love it. The concierge was incredibly responsive and helpful ahead of our stay. But reality fell flat relative to expectations. We ended up leaving after the first night for an Airbnb. Here's what we experienced:
The place photographs great! It's mid-century and funky. However in person the place does not hold up or feel as refined as other hotels in the same star class. It's an older building, which is fine, but it shows. It feels like lipstick. This is just our honest assessment--it seems like others like the vibe and for the price, maybe not that bad.
Where things went really bad for us were the beds. After traveling for a couple weeks around South America, these felt exceptionally firm. The queen bed is really just two doubles put together. The sheets felt subpar. To make it worse, the foam pillows were oddly lumpy and felt used--like they should've been replaced many stays ago.
This was enough to have us want to move but then the concierge completely messed up a soccer game we had been planning on. For weeks ahead of our stay we planned with the front desk to go to a Boca Juniors game, which was going to be a highlight of the trip. We got back to the hotel after our first day to the front desk concerned why we weren't back earlier as the driver was ready to take us to the game. No one had informed us (either before we arrived or during our check in the evening before) that the schedule changed. We no longer could make it. This was another disappointment and left us scrambling to find another highlight for this trip. Other than a tepid sorry, there wasn't much of an effort to make it right despite the error on their part. I guess they had another guest interested in taking our spots.
We were happy to check out early and slept much better at a different place. That said, the hotel is relatively inexpensive. Just don't expect the comfort and service to exceed what you are paying. read more
