It actually felt more like a great hotel room rather than a hostel. The rustic building gives it the traditional Roma feel but the interior is very modern. Everything from the all white spotless bathroom with the modern shower and sink/mirror will make you very comfortable. I also enjoyed the tall ceilings which are the original ceilings that are many hundreds of years old. Very cool. You'll even have your own window overlooking the courtyard and that is always nice to have the sun shine into your room. All of this is away from the hustle and bustle of the city so you'll have a quaint and peaceful room to yourself. The room itself was very clean and also had a stylish feel to it that made it very accommodating and comfortable to stay in. The bed is very comfortable and there is even a cabinet to store your luggage and clothes. I would say the room is spacious enough to fit a couple comfortably but I could see a small family staying in the room as well. Plus there is free wi-fi which is perfect for planning out your day. As far as service goes, Alex and Ercole are also extremely helpful and great guides to the city as well as to your room and to Blue Hostel. They truly do everything they can to make you feel like you are a native and that you are right at home. Alex provided us with large maps of the city and then took the time to point out restaurants, sights, etc. He even catered it to us by pointing out the areas that natives go to and also pointing out less touristy spots. If you have any issues, there is a phone provided in the hallway that you can call hotel management and they will be very quick to respond. Probably the best part of Blue Hostel is the location. It is walking distance from mostly everything including the major tourist sites like the Colosseum. It is also incredibly close to the Termini station which means taking the train to another city or to the airport is a breeze. Overall, I really enjoyed Blue Hostel. Alex and Ercole really try to make you feel at home and do so without making the cost exorbitant. That is truly unheard of when you compare to other hotels in Roma. I also appreciated the location and the safety you feel. That is because you'll have a set of keys that lock various doors before you get to your own room. I would recommend Blue Hostel to all travelers and they really helped to make our trip to Roma a fantastic one!

It was inconvenient to sit on the floor waiting for phone to charge before going to bed instead of letting it charge overnight if there was a charger long enough. I stayed in the sweets. There was also only one sink working properly. The other one is slow so everybody fights for the one good rest room. The building is good but no noise block of any kind. It was hard to sleep at night as there are always noise from outside every night.

You are most likely in a foreign country, that makes you vulnerable. If you pay up front, they can hold your bed hostage hoping you will be desperate enough to pay the full charge again. This mistake cost me over €400. 2. Never use a third party app to book. Only book on their website (and again, do not pay upfront). 3. For those with disabilities: Only ask them for accommodations via email, so that you have a paper trail. The hard truth is you can follow all the rules and if they want to strong arm you and steal your money, they can and will. It happened to me. They flat out refused to honor my reservation and told me if I wanted to stay I'd have to pay a second time. They are crooks so BE CAREFUL.

Lui mi ha informato che mi sbagliavo io, che Era dormitorio misto. Ho aperto la email di conferma della prenotazione, dove non Era scritto niente di simile. Il uomo mi ha risposto che lui non mi possa aiutare visto che deve pensare agli altri che Hanno prenotato feminile! Nessun aiuto,nessuna soluzione mi e Stata offerta. I enter the room ready to relax when old male entered age 60+, dressed like coming from construction site, I told he is fixing the restroom. After I asked how long will take he said he is a guest. I told it was an error. I went to the reception and try to understand what was going on. Older male with glasses informed me that my room is mixed dormitory. So I opened my confirmation email where this information was committed. His response was, I need to think about others who are coming next and had booked female dormitory. No assistance was offered. I discovered that if he moved me to ladies dormitory it costed less,as results they were supposed to refund some of what I was charged. I suppose this explain the resilience and undesirability to help me. Second night At 1 am they closed the rooftop bar and those males come to the room,not respectfully, snoring and other corporeal sound, make it impossible to sleep. I went down to the reception after 4 hours of torture. Where a male age 30ties allowed himself to scream at me with anger and extreme hostility. I honestly felt uncomfortable. I am a women and I feel in danger. He screamed until I couldn't stop crying. Extremely verbally abusive. I look for another hotel but as I am leaving shortly I couldn't find. The screaming man saw my review and bring a napkin, saying sorry I scream, but he justified his aggressive behavior with:I am not responsible for this,this is between you and the hotel!" The stuff is poorly mannered. Lack of basic human consideration and absolutely unprofessional. Not welcoming, not friendly. Absolutely disrespectful and just poorly behaved unhealthy individuals. Just Horible. I don't recommend it. Dangerous, dirty, dingy zone full of drug dealers homeless and a lot of stools around this hostel. It looks shiny from the outside, but it is really Horible. This is not safe for ladies solo travelers. It's just abusive and toxic and really traumatizing. Never again. I don't recommend.

It's very close to the San Giovanni station( which is close to the San Giovanni Church). The colosseum is within walkable distance (10min) as well. They serve THE BEST BREAKFAST one can never expect from a hostel, did I mentioned that it's free as well? They have a HUGE selection of pastries from the nearby bakery, plus assorted tea cakes. Savory options are also available. Not to mentioned, HOMEMADE CAPPUCCINO - those that you beat the foam by hand? Yes please!

However, not all hostels will kill you! On the contrary, I have had many pleasant experiences staying in them. They provide inexpensive room and board, and often times the owners have great suggestions for food and sightseeing. Take for example, Legends in Rome. It was a hostel recommended to me by a friend, who said it was one of the best hostels he ever stayed in. It was a bit hard to find at first, and the outside is unassuming. But once you're inside, it is very homey and welcoming. There are tons of room types to choose from: they have more private rooms that have only one or two beds, or larger group housing for 4 or more people. There is a steady stream of travelers staying here all the time, from all over the world. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. This is emphasized by the group dinners every night, cooked by the lovely owners of this establishment. A full meal is served every night (at no extra charge) to the guests at the hostel. It has a very "family dinner" feeling. Overall, this is a great place to stay and not at all unwelcoming. I didn't see any torture device anywhere either!

It is only about a 15 minute bus ride to get to where all the touristy stuff is, but I walked from the Trevi Fountain back and it took me about 45 minutes, just FYI. I stayed in a mixed dorm, and it was pretty clean overall. The bathroom are private ones shared with the dorms, and the shower, toilet, and sink were all clean. I really don't have any complaints about it, except they do have a weird with where Hostelworld tells you that you've already paid the city tax, but after actually calculating it, you don't pay the city tax ahead of time, so pay attention to that to make sure you're getting charged the correct amount!

We met some cool travelers from all over the world so it's definitely a good social hostel. They have happy hour everyday from 7-9pm which is unlimited wine (red and white), so definitely take advantage of it, unless you are a wine snob...then don't LOL The city seems big on the map but it's really a walkable city and the hostel isnt far from it all! There is a little restaurant across the street in an alleyway called Sofia which has good american breakfast and 3 course meal combo at night for 15 euros, which includes a drink (alcoholic too). The free breakfast here isn't bad, just a variety of pastries and coffee/tea. We had a kitchen in the apartment with all the other private rooms as well, so a staff member would come over and put fresh pastries in the kitchen for us. Our room got cleaned EVERY DAY but if you don't want that, just let them know.

The dorm I stayed in had beds for six but there was plenty of space so it never felt cramped. There was a PC to use to check Email and other web based things. There was a nice shower but only one in the bathroom so often it was a case of waiting your turn. Once again the people running it were great and even came out for a night at an outdoor club. It was well placed quite close to the train station. I'd heard so many bad stories about people staying in Rome but we had no problems at all here.

This checked all of those boxes. Beds were comfortable and turned over every day. Wifi was reliable. Toilets were abundant and clean. Common areas were admittedly limited - there was a bar open from 8pm-1am that was nice with reasonably priced drinks but obv was loud and dark. The kitchen was bleak and very messy. The "living room" was nice but could easily be improved with more comfortable seating and another table or two. It was conveniently located to the major metro station (Rome termini) although I maybe would have preferred to stay somewhere a bit more south/close to the tourist sites. I likely wouldn't stay again to be frank unless I had no other options; but it wasn't a bad hostel, just not an exceptionally good one.

Also no curfew so 2 girls always came in drunk, and one slept in the bathroom the whole night while the other was screaming at her to open the door, cuz her friend in the bathroom was barfing everywhere. This was like at 3am. And in the morning the bathroom was full of barf and the smell. Gosh, no consideration! Wifi works everywhere. No free breakfast, cost 3 euros, free sheets. Reception staff was really helpful and nice. Overall a pretty decent hostel located near the train station, very convenient. And if you don't mind staying in a room of 8 then it's cool. This is a small hostel on the ground floor of an apartment building in the San Lorenzo quarter,…read moreRome's university district. It's not the most centrally located, but you can walk to the nearest metro stop (Policlinico, on line B) in about 7 minutes, which is just two stops east of Termini, Rome's main railway station and only transfer point between the two metro lines, and also two stops west of Tiburtina, another major railway station. The #310 bus runs along Viale Ippocrate right in front of the hostel and connects it with Termini, about a 5 minute ride. As a last resort, you can walk from Termini or Tiburtina in about 15 minutes, as I did one night after missing the last runs of the metro and the 310 bus, and having no clue which night bus I could take. There are lockers inside the dorms, although my six bed dorm only had five lockers (I was able to get one, luckily). There was one night where a sixth person was in the dorm, and it sounded like they had an extra locker somewhere in the common area that he could use, so you shouldn't be completely out of luck. You have to use the buzzer at the front door of the building to be let in; access is available 24 hours a day. However the dorms themselves don't have locks, so you really do want to make use of the aforementioned lockers for any valuables. Beds are not assigned so it's first come, first serve. Try to arrive as early as possible if you really want a bottom bunk. You'll have to make the bed when you arrive, but you're not required to strip the bed when checking out. Towels were available to rent for €2 if I remember correctly, but I had my own. All dorms have an ensuite bathroom as far as I'm aware. There are also two extra single-person bathrooms in the hallway, and they both have showers. I actually ended up showering in the hallway bathrooms most of the time because the bathroom in the dorm was being used, or because it was really late and I didn't want to disturb other people in the dorm. Hot water was always available when I was showering, but it may run low if too many people are showering at the same time. My dorm only had one electrical outlet in the actual sleeping area; luckily I got the bed that was right next to it. There were also two outlets in the ensuite bathroom. In addition there were some outlets in the hallway that I used one night to charge batteries for my camera. However I wouldn't recommend using the hallway outlets to charge anything too valuable like a smartphone or laptop. Free wifi is provided throughout the hostel, and there is also a free computer in the common area. However, there is no printer available. If you need to print a train/airplane ticket or something else you should try to do that beforehand or maybe locate an internet cafe with a printer somewhere in the area. The common area is fairly small and includes the aforementioned computer, a sofa, three kitchen tables, and the kitchen facilities. A refrigerator/freezer and oven/stovetop are available for use; I can't recall if there was a microwave or not. Cookware, plates, and eating utensils are available. Label any food you're storing in the fridge or it will be thrown out. Free breakfast is also provided in here, but I had my own food (or went out for breakfast) and didn't take advantage of it. I think they offered cereal, milk, juice, and a fruit tart. I ended up here because the rates were a bit more reasonable than what hostels near Termini were charging (I scheduled myself to be in Rome close to Easter without realizing it at first, and rates do go up a lot around that time at hostels and hotels in Rome). But overall the hostel was fairly clean and not a bad place at all to stay.
