My girls are absolute ambassadors of OKS, as I see the totality of what Oak Knoll offers, in them. The teachers and faculty are like family, the care they exude is ever so natural and nurturing. Don't get me started on the academics. In the lower school, the classes are interwoven. I was actually intrigued to learn that in the sixth grade for instance, as the origin of the golden ratio was being taught in math class, the students were also being shown how it was applied to the Mona Lisa painting in their Arts class, it's application in the Renaissance era in Social Studies, and there was reference to the concept in Science, and even in the library classes. My sixth grader was absolutely fascinated relating her experience. As for the nurturing environment, you can sense the importance of core values in the school, it only takes one visit to feel it in the air. The students are also exposed to practical religious tenets, helping those in need, etc. I honestly cannot say enough about Oak Knoll. Security: First and foremost, I want me kids to be safe. There are double-doors in front, each with its own lock, and someone at the front desk. There are cameras everywhere, so there is accountability at all times when it comes to my kids (this has never been an issue with the staff, but more if my kid trips and falls, footage can be reviewed to verify what happened and reported to me). 2. Care: The staff is simply wonderful. They genuinely care for the children and get to know them on a personal level. There are many long-tenured caregivers, which speaks to it being a good place to work, which shows in the engagement with the children. To a person, everyone has been so great with my kids, I couldn't ask for more friendly, compassionate and dedicated people to spend so much time with my kids. 3. Development: While they follow a sound curriculum, they really meet my kids where they are. I have worked collaboratively with their teachers on milestones that were different timing for my kids vs. others (potty training, social skills, etc.) and they are great partners in harnessing my children's strengths and helping them achieve their development goals. 4. Reliability: They are well-staffed and very well run, so there has never been an issue with not being able to provide care. Even with inclement weather, they have only been closed when it was truly warranted. 5. The teachers really push the kids to excel in their academics. They have a nice mixture of academics and athletics. School meals gave changed to healthier choices and served fresh daily. Parking lot is also used for the kids to play and their is also a toddler lot in the front of the school. The parent association has strived to make things better for the students and are trying to improve communications with the parents on school and fundraising activities. My son has entered kindergarten and has shown dramatic changes in a month of attending. I highly recommend you send your children here for a quality education.

The kindergarten team at the moment is the absolute best…read more There are some amazing teachers and some really bad ones (similar to all school districts I'm sure). What we do find is a lot of nepotism going on here. They get rid of good teachers at times before they get tenure and keep it hire ones that came from the town or are close to the Superintendent or principal. Not happy with the way some of the social situations have been handled here but that could just be a personal issue I have had. It isn't the best district for sure but the town is affordable and that's what you get.

Jefferson elementary school at Westfield NJ…read more It is very unprofessional: I asked the question about the school (main office at Jefferson elementary school - Westfield ) 10:54AM morning on Thursday. As soon as I asked only one question, the lady over the phone yelled at me to answer the question. The question is very general about the school. They have to educate the main office at Jefferson how to property answer the questions: " I told her that she shouldn't be yelled at me since it is normal and general question about the school event". She changed the voice of the tone. However I didn't want my kid to go to this kind of unprofessional staffed school by paying the taxes. Please educate this woman's behavior. Thanks.
