The 44th Annual Holly Trinity Russian Festival is a smaller heartfelt festival. There are no entertaining groups from Russia or from far away, but the local performers' friends and parents are great audience and everybody enjoys in a good program that quickly moves on.
What is very unique is that the vendors/servers are all dressed in the national dresses and that is very special. There is a large variety of food to eat and the sampler is very interesting - 8 types of food on little plates, enough for two bites of each. I am not sure what regions of the Russia were covered with the food but there was a lot of different food available. I tried it all and I liked it all. Special things were beet salad and beef stroganoff.
There were many signs explaining the non-Russian speaking folks certain words in Russian. The tea room was available and everybody is very willing to explain how to prepare and drink Russian tea. There were at least half dozen beers available.
The deserts were just OK and the cutest was Russian nesting doll cupcakes. Check out my photos for the Ukrainian Christmas Bazaar and you will understand my high standard for the deserts. Russian festival had only one type of the layered cake...
I have not been in that part of the Baltimore so I was a bit apprehensive about the write up for the church - HOLY TRINITY RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH is located in the renovated 'Washington Hill' neighborhood. What does it mean renovated neighborhood? It turns out that everything was just fine.
