Enrolling at Crescent Academy was an overwhelming experience. Definitely a culture shock going from…read morea class of 15 to several classes with 20+ students in each classroom. The first graders have their own trailer with over 6 classrooms, just for 1st graders. I thought this was great for children to develop social skills and building relationships with other students. Crescent Academy offers extracurricular activities to include girl's scouts, boy scouts, music, soccer, etc. In addition to activities, they also offer academic assistance for students that may be falling below their academic level. I gather from staff's involvement with the programs they offer, they really care. As it relates to the staff building relationships with the parents, I do see an effort being made since the last time I wrote my review. My daughter participated in the girls scout program, she was a daisy. She had so much fun and there were so many events, trips and meetings to keep the girls just as engaged. She will definitely be participating next year as a brownie. Overall, I feel confident in the academic program Crescent Academy offers. We are looking forward to next year.

We had a very disappointing experience with Shrine Grade School last year. Before enrolling,…read moreseveral local teachers warned us about leadership and academics at Shrine, but we chose to give it a chance and quickly regretted it. The school was consistently disorganized. The principal seemed disengaged and unhappy in his role, while the assistant principal was unapproachable. Even their newsletters were full of grammatical errors--alarming for an academic institution. Most concerning was the school's push to hold back pre-K students. Even when classroom teachers said children were ready for kindergarten, administration insisted otherwise (this is the case for 3 different families we have spoken to). In our case, they repeatedly claimed our 4 y/o May-born daughter was "too young for Kindergarten," which is simply not true. We later learned this was likely due to a lack of kindergarten space, making the decision feel misleading and financially motivated. The one bright spot was our daughter's teacher, who was kind and capable, but strong classroom teaching cannot make up for weak leadership. Now that our daughter is at a new school, the difference in organization, communication, and overall educational environment is striking. I fear for Shrine's future if leadership and priorities do not change.

I know my first name is a typical last name but having someone repeat what's your first name over and over and slower is super demeaning. The teachers are even disrespectful to the students. My brother has come home with horror stories that make you hope your child is making them up. Ranging from other students taking his stuff and the teacher telling him oh well and blaming him to the teachers forcing them to run because her glasses were moved. Let me tell you my brother has issues with his ankles and this "punishment" further worsened his condition.

There are two good things about this school…read more.. Okay, there's probably more than that but there's definitely two that I know of for sure. 1. Ms. Vivian is probably dead and therefore no longer part of their staff. She was evil incarnate when she was working here (I should know, I had her for kindergarten). How the physical abuses got past the administration are beyond me, but this was a different time, and she was horrible. 2. Ms. Cook no longer works here either. She was a redheaded demon. No, seriously. I corrected her on her grammar when I was 12 or so (Mr. Matthews was a good English teacher) and she pretty much tried to shoot me with flaming arrows. Ever since then she would make up random things about me that were totally untrue just to get me in trouble. I hope she's dead too, really. Anyways, there still were plenty of great teachers here in my day; Mr. Matthews, Ms. Green, Ms. Ehardt, etc. But none of them work here now either. I guess since most of this stuff is irrelevant now, it's probably not very helpful. However, if you are considering sending your kids here for the Christian aspect I should tell you, they also did such a good job of teaching me to think independently that I experimented with Pagan beliefs in high school and definitely became an Atheist in college.

Attended a two-day event here recently and wanted to share a small but meaningful moment that stood…read moreout. At the end of the event, only one restroom near the auditorium was left open. The others had been cleaned and locked since the venue was being prepped for the next day. The lines grew long, and with kids needing to go urgently, I approached one of the custodial staff to ask if any other restrooms were available. That's when I met Ana. She gently explained that everything else was closed but then took it upon herself to help. She contacted someone with the keys, walked all the way to another restroom, opened it up for us, and let in a few others as well. I knew it meant extra work and more cleaning, but she didn't hesitate. When I thanked her, she was so humble and simply said she was glad to help. These 5 stars are for you, Ana! You didn't expect anything in return, and you had no idea I'd write this review. I don't know if it'll ever reach you or make a difference, but this is my way of saying thank you for your quiet act of kindness. It truly meant a lot to us. Such kindness deserves to be appreciated. I'm looking for a Montessori school that goes beyond kinder like a lot do in this area. I called to get information about the school and to set a tour. I asked if they offer any financial aid for the 15k tuition and the Business Director Denise literally scoffed and snorted as if she was personally offended "Financial Aid?!? Financial Aid?? Our parents don't need Financial Aid!" She said this in the midst incredulous tone as if I'd personally offended her. She was so nasty that I cancelled my tour right away. I wouldn't send my child here with the risk of being ostracized or treated differently because I simply inquired about Financial Aid. If a school doesn't offer tuition assistance, fine but at least pretend that your school philosophy isn't to look down on those who ask.
