Tim Curry and I...what an opportunity

Been coming to Hollywood show since 2016...expect to spend over $200 if you want to be satisfied with meeting some good peoplem.. I always leave happy. My biggest highlight was meeting Tim Curry. Sadly I missed the 2022 show but hope to go to 2023 show.

What a surreal experience! Strange to see people who are so familiar to you... you know them, but they don't know you. I had never been to this event before, but a friend of mine told me about it and I saw the tickets for 1/2 price on goldstar.com. I'm not the kind of person who hunts out celebrities, but I do like touristy cheesy fun. I was super excited to enter and start seeing people I recognized. Granted there was no rhyme or reason to the people who attended... Some were new to the TV/movie scene and others were actors from the 60s, 70s, 80s. I was disappointed that in addition to the entrance fee ($30 full price or $15 discounted) the celebrities each charged a photo fee or an autograph fee. But I found that if you bought an autograph, generally they were nice about letting you take a photo with them or of them signing. And I took a few without them looking - shh! It was a little depressing watching a few of them hawk their photos and remind lookey loos like me who they had played in whatever. And while some looked GREAT for their age... others not so much. The great thing about the event was that the day that I went (Sunday), it really wasn't that packed and I could go right up to eveyone and talk to them and shake their hand. They couldn't care less - but it was fun for me lol I saw the cast from Hunter, Lost in Space, a few from Dukes of Hazzard, Josie & the Pussiecats (voice people), Eddie Munster, Loni Anderson, a bunch of playboy models, Vivica A Fox, Pam Grier, Rich Little, Erika Eleniak, Angie Dickenson, the lead from the musical "Flower Drum Song", Geoffrey Lewis, some lady from True Blood, some blue lady from Farscapes, and June Foray (who did the voices for almost countless characters including Rocky Squirrel, Natasha, and the Twilight Zone's Talking Tina - who knew??!) Educational - I learned a lot first hand from the celebs themselves asking questions and looking at the photos they had. My dad LOVED it. It would be a perfect event to bring your out-of-town guests to see famous people. I think they have the event a few times a year. Overall, great opportunity, a fun day, and lots of celebrity memorabilia for sale - including checks and letters - if you're into that sort of thing.

I've been going to this show for quite some time. I think it changed hands a few years back but it's a fabulous event! I'm so surprised more people don't attend...even though it is pretty crowed at times. I take my 2 little boys to get photos with the celebrities so they can say, "I met so in so, here's the picture of us." My only complaint is most of the aisles are tight and hard to get through when crowded. Other than that, I LOVE this show!! If you have time to go, GO! You'll find it very fascinating!

As for the venue, the Sunday performances require masks and when a customer in front of me inquired about it the staff member indicated that they offer Sundays for those customers who want to wear masks. Doesn't make sense to me because if a customer wants to wear a mask during any performance in this venue they should be able to. Upon that said, there were a few customers not wearing any masks (again, makes no sense). The other con is they offer refreshments for sale at reasonable prices; however, you cannot take them into the theatre. I have only been to one other theatre that did not allow food nor drinks so you have to arrive early if you want refreshments or you can purchase during the intermission but have to hurry to finish up. Although staff was friendly and informative, the venue was cramped although plenty of seating is available. I doubt I will patronize this theatre again unless it was a "to die for" performance showing.

We will definitely return to this very friendly theater and we hope to see Kent again.

I decided to use my refund and scrambled to find a new event to do for the evening. Through my Fever app I found Avenue Q and was so excited! My son has been wanting to see this forever and I knew it was going to be fun, but had no idea it was going to be one of the best shows I've seen. Driving up, I was skeptical of the center, but once we walked in we were greeted to a beautiful lobby and kind hosts. The show itself was one of the most funny and entertaining experiences I've had in a while! These performers were beyond incredible! Thank you everyone who made my sons night special again :)

We happened to catch their rendition of Avenue Q in January 2022 when we were on our honeymoon. We were blown away by the show and the talent available at such a small theater. And my wife ended up following many of those fine folks on Instagram. So when the two of us + my sister were planning a January 2026 trip to LA and noticed Avenue Q would be back for a limited time at Wisteria, we jumped at the opportunity to sort of relive that and help my sister get a similar experience. I'm happy to say that expectations were (mostly) met. Wisteria isn't much bigger than Cupcake was, maybe like 100 seats, so every seat in the house is close to the stage/actors. There were moments in the show where the cast directly interacted with me, even though I wasn't in the first row, so that was pretty cool. And an opportunity you can't get at bigger venues (for that price at least). The cast was about 50% who we had seen before, and the talent is still top notch. Everyone sounded amazing, easily matching or besting musical theater troupes we'd seen tour our home city. And everyone was well cast and suited for their roles. The costuming and puppets all seemed really good to me. Some of the puppets look quite different from what I remember experiencing before, but they all seemed to fit the characters regardless. The lighting was all well chosen and timed. And the sound mixing was mostly great, although sometimes it felt like the music overpowered the vocals a little. The backgrounds were more of a mixed bag. It's extremely obvious that AI was used to generate the backgrounds shown on the big screen. I get that Wisteria is a tiny operation running on an even smaller budget. But to be honest, the AI really left a bad taste in our mouths. My sister said she could hardly focus on the show because of how distracting the AI usage was. There were too many instances of jumbled/nonsense signs or things that were uncanny and unnatural. There couldn't have been a much bigger budget back in the Cupcake Theater days, and I don't remember a need for all the AI backgrounds/video back then (for the same show). We would honestly rather have cheesy stock photos or bad Photoshop than AI that seems to strip away the humanity that is otherwise so resonant at this lovely theater. One last small note as someone who loves the Avenue Q soundtrack: It was personally disappointing for me to hear Shadenfraude get trimmed down. The entire verse starting with "straight A students getting B's" was cut and there's instead an awkward cut where it was. Was this a Wisteria decision or something done by the original creators? I don't really understand what happened there. Again, we love your crew and the show was overall fantastic. We were so happy to take time in our trip to support a small, local theater. Keep up the great work and everyone, please give these guys a look if you love live theater!
