I don't mind going here for non perishable items but I refuse to buy any produce items here. I can't state how annoyed I have been buying the cherry tomatoes that have rotten pieces at the bottom of the pack that I can't see when I pick them up without removing the cover, which has happened to me a few times, Clems where not one orange is ripe or good in the whole bunch, or avocados where 2/3 are rotten despite trying to pick ones that are somewhat firm but have a little give. I have had more bad experiences with produce here and as a result I refuse to waste any money buying anymore from this location. read more

I started coming here when they closed the Kroger at 13 and Woodward. A great local supermarket. I love their tuna salad and their house brand potato salad. They have a great selection of deli meat. Everything is reasonably priced, and the staff is always helpful and nice. read more

This is exactly what you want from a local market. It's not a mega-store or a gourmet market and your expectations should be adjusted accordingly. It excels at what it is. I've been coming here for years and most of the staff are still the same, which must speak to the company itself. It means these seasoned staff are dedicated, friendly, happy and helpful. I cannot count the number of times the meat counter staff have taken the time to discuss preparation methods or made suggestions. These are proper butchers. The cashiers are always smiling and like to have a brief chat while they ring you up. Even the baggers are nice! The layout is simple and easy. You can breeze through the whole store quickly and with no back tracking. For a neighborhood market this place is perfect. It has the staples as well as some nice rarities. It's more on the value end with relatively good prices overall. For a basic grocery store this place is exactly how it should be done. It's not a one-stop shop though but you add in Nino's and Holiday to the rotation and you get a well-rounded, locally stocked kitchen. read more

I really like this grocery overall. My only real complaint is that the layout makes it so that the bakery & produce sections are difficult to get "back to" once you've navigated past them. Also the covid protective plastic that was put up at the registers is extremely sharp and sliced my elbow open very deeply. My home grocery store. These guys are awesome, they were always so helpful when we had toddlers, and we know all the staff by name, if not by sight. They go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. And, the selection of craft beer is perfect. Highly recommended! read more

Overall I really like all the Hollywood Markets. I frequent the one on Main in Royal Oak the most because it is close. Small but has the basics and like all the Hollywood's a great meat counter. If I need to do real grocery shopping I head to the one on Campbell and 12 Mile. Selection is much better and no where near as crowded as the Kroger across the street but it is a bit more expensive. read more

They stopped a mother from purchasing alcohol for her underage daughter while they stood in line together. Some people just don't learn, and pass on their bad habits to their children. It's sad, disgusting, and tearing this country apart. I mean, just look at what happened to the city of Detroit. I have been using this market for years now and it's not a reflection of their covid policies. The customer service of the meat department is so far below par. The meat is a 50/50 chance of not being edible. I thought it was just the poultry but the deli I ordered was too. I asked for the favorite of customers and when I get home 80% of the turkey is pink and smells rotten. The cashiers are generally nice and have no complaints there. If you see a guy working in the meat department with a beard, glasses and a marine Corp hat, stay away! He is the most condescending, rude and unsettling man I've ever met working in any kind of service industry. read more

I have come to this market on several occasions and have some serious complaints that I hope the staff will see and correct or I will no longer be shopping at the Hollywood Market. For starters the bottle return machines are only open until 8pm which is a great inconvenience and makes very little sense since the machines do not require a human to operate and simply print receipts. My next complaint comes in the form of a guessing game many items on the shelves do not have stickers of the prices making me feel like I'm on the Price is right guessing which item is going to cost what. ive encountered a few cashiers who make strange comments to me and seem to be a little crabby, aren't you happy that your an employee at the Hollywood market? The prices on some items in comparison to target or ALDIs is insane I know the world is hurting because of inflation but I am spending over $100 on four bags that aren't even full of groceries concerning yes but when I go to target I leave with money in my pocket. read more

I like shopping here occasionally, the deli and meat counter are good. Feels like a market from the 1970's. Do not buy produce here! I spent almost $10 on watermelon and blueberries that should have been labeled compost. Got them home and they were way past their consumption state. read more

Hollywood has been a staple for us for years. Although it's a chain, this location keeps it's small town appeal and they do care about the community. The staff is friendly and most of the meat counter crew are very helpful on cuts and cooking. The only reason I'm not giving the 5th star is that some service has fallen off a little lately. A couple newbee's at the meat counter usually make me feel like I could butcher a cow quicker than they take care of my order. read more

A formal and more detailed letter of the below was also sent to the store, and they never replied. I have decided to stop shopping at all Hollywood Market stores based solely on my experiences at this location. On at least 4 occasions in the past year, I have seen and/or accidently purchased expired items from this store - one time in particular, it resulted in a serious case of food poisoning from a deli soup. The other 3 occasions included twice where I actually purchased expired items, only to discover them expired upon arriving home and immediately attempting to use them. Even after the above, I continued to shop there, but I was more closely checking the expiration dates of products. I recall at one point, I was shopping in the packaged lunch meat section and noticed that there were a fair number of packages of Oscar Meyer, Hillshire Farms etc. lunch meats that had expired, some of which were 3-4 weeks past their expiration date. One of the employees was stocking the produce nearby, so I pulled him aside, pointed this out to him and suggested that perhaps someone may want to take a look at the situation and pull the expired items. His reply was that it was "not his job," and I should advise the meat counter. The final straw... I was rushing home one night and I knew I needed a few items to complete a recipe for dinner, one of which was bacon. I selected a Dearborn Brand, in my haste failing to check the expiration date, only to realize after preparing it to add to the night's dinner that it had indeed expired a week prior. We ended up tossing the entire dinner just in case. Four separate occasions in such a short time is not a good track record for any small business. Customers should feel comfortable that they will receive good customer service and a quality product, without having to be concerned about such things as expiration dates. I am extremely disappointed. Chances are I am not alone. read more

I've started shopping at this Hollywood Supermarket to replenish my stock of salad fixings after a trip. It is on the way back from airport, especially when either I-696 or I-75 gets crowded. Prices are a little high, so it's not where I stock up- just onesie or twosie items. Will repeat. read more

This butcher counter is like one you'd see in a TV sitcom from the 1950s, except that they have many modern offerings like a bunch of gourmet house-made sausages and kabobs. The meat prices are always reasonable and the people behind the counter are very helpful! This store is worth patronizing based on the butcher counter alone, but I go on many all-purpose grocery trips here. Produce leaves a bit to be desired, but overall, it's not a bad store. Prices are pretty much on-par with local, single or small-chain grocery stores, i.e. a bit more than Meijer, but I like supporting local businesses. read more

Your choices of grocery stores in Royal Oak, directly in the downtown area, are Westborn market on Woodward, Holiday market on South Main, and Hollywood market at North Main. I only gave the place the star off because they don't have nearly the quantity of gourmet items the others do. However they earn their four stars solidly; of all of those that I mentioned, they are the most affordable. I have watched other grocery stores decline while this one maintains a loyal clientele. It would seem they have no need to paint the walls and renovate the building. At 10 AM on Tuesday morning the parking lot was a quarter full. I have no idea what's on the calendar for renovations; it appears nothing is coming soon;I can only assume this helps keep costs were they need to be. There is another market I did not mention because of the fact that it is so meek in their supply, they are priced convenience style and are located on south eastern outskirts of Royal Oak, outside of the traffic in the community. I also do not include it as a full grocery store. That said I recommend Hollywood market on Northmain because they're affordable, fast, and they keep their shelves stocked. read more

I lovingly refer to this market as "Inglewood" Market. And if you've been to Cali, this is not a compliment, since it's a pretty beat little suburb of L.A. But to me, it sums up the place. It's a supermarket. No frills. You can get your typical supermarket brands here. Don't expect anything unusual or exotic. This is a perfect coupon collector supermarket. I get it, you can save lots of $ with coupons. But man, it is not fun to be stuck behind said super saver! I know, I'm impatient... Also the layout is sort of infuriating. I came in once for Coronas and forgot my limes and the way the isles are setup, you have to walk back through the maze just to get back to the produce section. Annoying! I can see how people come here for the meat, they do have a huge selection. I have to disagree that it's good quality meat. But if it's a good price you're looking for, look no further. It's my last choice market in the area. But when in need of basics for less, it does the trick. read more

I love the Hollywood at 12 and Campbell. This one is smaller and while i've never purchased something that has had a bad date on it, I can see how that could happen (see the other review). I don't think they get as much traffic at this store, so it just seems like something that could happen. That said, I will do a quick stop here now and again and have never had an issue other than it being cramped in comparison to the sprawling Madison Heights location. But this one seems to have a greater selection of prepared foods, which seems odd to me. Maybe it's their clientele, not sure. read more

My husband is more of a carnivore than me, so he always buys the meat. His dad is a butcher, so he's kind of picky on meat. He absolutely loves the meat from Hollywood Super Market and is the only place he'll get meat from. Hollywood has everything I need for grocery shopping and has a real friendly staff. There's always the correct amount of cashiers when I go shopping and it's not as expensive as Holiday Market. Nothing fancy, just a really nice grocery store. read more

We try to be local business supporters as much as possible. This grocery store makes me happy to do that. Some people will say the prices are too high, I would say that it all averages out. Some items might be priced higher than another store, but other items will be quite cheaper. We definitely try to stay on a budget, and are able to still do so by shopping here. They always have a great selection of produce, meat, and other various items. The main reason I give the store a five is because of the experience it gives the shopper. Every single employee is extremely friendly and the energy is so positive. The managers really set the tone here, anytime I have had a question or concern about an item I have purchased... Without question they resolve the issue and leave me feeling like a satisfied customer. There is an awesome mix of young workers, experienced workers, special needs workers, and other highlights of diversity. And that's the kind of place where I want to shop, a place where everybody feels welcome. read more

This market has been serving the community for many, many years and as such is not shiny-new, and probably doesn't have the best layout. That said, the prices are acceptable, their produce is decent and their meat department is excellent. They'll cut, grind, blend to your specifications. Just a couple notes about other reviews... The Hollywood Market at 12 & Campbell IS the Madison Heights location. Hollywood market South on Broadway...? You mean Main St? And what swell market is at 14 & Coolidge? This is a little late... About 7 years ago I had to stay in the area for 9 weeks. All in a hotel room. Eating out was the only way to go and I got so sick of restaurants! I came across Hollywood Market in Royal Oak and fell in love!!! I picked up lunch and dinner whenever I could, rather than going to a restaurant. It was all SO YUMMY! I don't really know why I like to visit this market. They have an undefined collection of goods, but they carry a few that I cannot find anywhere else. I live in Bloomfield but use the hair salon across the street and never get a chance to stop here on my way home. I come for the tofu by Panda, a local company. This market usually carries 2 flavors of it at the end of the produce aisle. They also carry a very wide array of products by Steve's: the usual hummus, lentils, Steve's lentil salad and grape leaves. But they also carry Steve;s falafel and chick pea salads, which are harder to find this fresh at Kroger. For whatever reason, their pita from Dearborn is always soft and fresh... I am constantly picking through stiffer local pita at Kroger, so I imagine this market gets daily delivery? I don't know, but it's always very soft, like it was just made. (no preservatives, so it will stiffen up tomorrow!) The strawberries I bought today were tops! Worlds above the ones I found at Kroger and Meijer. I also like all of the employees. I always leave feeling like I know them all. read more

One word: Smelly-as-all-get-out-bottle-return. OK, that was more than one word, but holy cripes! The smell is horrific, and it slaps you in the face the second you walk in. I abhor this place. It's close to home, so if I'm desperate for a bag of cat litter and too lazy to go anywhere else, I'll stop in, but I always regret it. I hear this place is known for its meat, but the meat counter has a similar odor to the bottle-return area, so I've never made the beef-buying voyage. The layout makes no sense either. I've found several strange items in aisles I'd never think to look. I get the heeby jeebies just thinking about this place. read more

This is a great little neighborhood walk-to-it supermarket that has most of what I need (I also shop at Trader Joe's on Woodward). When I have asked them to stock a product they have done it. They offer lots of local foods and they are a local business (not national) so it feels good to support them. As others have said, their meat is excellent. Very friendly bunch of people there, too. One criticism is the layout. It is a bit like a maze; wish they would open it up. But then maybe they wouldn't have enough space. read more

Just like all the other spartan line markets in R.O. this is subpar. I wish there was a true supermarket available to R.O.ers without having to drive to Coolidge and 14 or to Madison Heights. I love this place! Their coffee is amazing, they have a nice meat counter, and a lot of prepared food that's really good.

I love going to this market for some good meat and sausage, decent price for " fresh " meat and the quality is amazing for the price, my only complaint about this place is the cashiers, they have no personality /customer service skills. every time I go I tell myself I will not go back but is close to my house and sometimes I dont feel like driving 15 min to go to whole food market. read more
