I wish I looked up reviews before using this company, because the negative ones were all my experience, as well. I was just starting my solo practice and looking for an easy billing process, which they promised. I unfortunately used them for a few years, thinking insurance just didn't pay well and feeling grateful I had a lot of cash patients. The more I learned about insurance, however, the fishier HBS started looking, and I left their services when they started charging a monthly fee, even if I had no claims to process. I have many things to say but in brief, their customer service was terrible and once I left the company, I realized they had been billing incorrectly and providing me with incorrect information the entire time. With them, I needed to follow up with insurance myself, and they fully disappeared several times and were difficult to contact or get a response from. When I left in Fall of '25, they sent me their list of opened claims... There were 52 OPEN CLAIMS, some from as far back as 2023, for which I was never reimbursed. I have to redo countless claims because of them, and may be at a financial loss due to their practices and the ages of some of these claims. I need to work with another professional to clean up their mess and see what if anything I can possibly get reimbursed for at this point. They put my business at a huge risk, broke trust with some patients because of their false information, and I've lost money because of their practices. Don't use them. read more

Quality of Service is plug-in play. Pretty easy....until you have real business dealings and need their help to address or contact insurance co., because they are the one;s who have all the contact info. They don't have any direct tel # you have to leave your message with a receptionist. They call back the next business day. I am unable to deal with one or two employees when trying to solve problems. It seems to be a different employee trying to solve the same problem over and over and over. My time is wasted replying to multiple employee emails all with different ways to solve the problem. Their verification for beneftis of patient's insurance takes too long. (3-5 business days) And they take 10% from every check issued. A simple Electronic Insurance Billing software can be $75-$125 month and you do all the input yourself. I pay close to $300 a month in their 10% fee. They are too hard to get a hold of and they take too long in resolving issues. STAY AWAY!!!!! read more

For the past year, I have been trying to work with Holistic Billing but in the end it is easier for me to deal with the insurance companies directly rather than go through them. They do not return calls. They often give the wrong verification information. I tried to politely schedule a phone call to discuss these issues and they called me 1 HOUR AFTER OUR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. This company has been a nightmare to work with. read more

I rarely use yelp reviews and take them with a grain of salt because people like to complain, but I was not wanting to deal with insurance billing on my own even again..as many of you understand. Thus, I was willing to pay the $300 just to join and also the $10 per claim for 10% whatever was more costly to me just to avoid the hassle. Instead, I still had to deal with the claims myself after asking them several times to do what they are supposed to do! THEY ARE ELOQUENT WITH SALES BUT THAT IS ALL THEY DO. I was working with Unified Practice for 7 years. My price increased twice in one year and I was told it would cost $99.00. I switched to doing my soap notes on Holistic, saved $100.00 and had half the work. I love it! read more

I just called to get some information in regards to billing services but instead we were led into a convoluted exchange with a young woman who called herself "just a receptionist" who can't answer anything about anything. If this company wants business- they need a more professional, less confrontational "receptionist." The face, so to speak, of a company can initially start with the receptionist/operator/front desk and first impression is important. read more

Its been several months since I signed up with HBS. They are great getting setup, but they don't provide good support with explaining how insurance verifications work, deductible, copays, etc. When paying my invoice, I experienced a lot of problems processing payments. They don't send a transparent itemized bill; you have to download that bill separately from the HBS portal. Another thing anyone thinking about signing up with HBS, they should get information on how insurance works, specifically No Fault or Workers Comp. I was not told by HBS that I could balance bill for this and got into trouble. You will also need to hire an attorney to help you setup a contract agreement. Something I was never told when I signed up. When I email with questions about insurance, they sometimes completely ignore my question, so I have to research on my own. They will also not be able to help you if patients contact you with further details on why their insurance was rejected, etc. You'll be on your own. If you're looking for a billing company to simply send out superbills, provide semi-accurate verifications, go with HBS. If you need more support regarding the ins and outs of insurance billing, I would not recommend this company. read more

I started using HBS to deal with some old claims. They sounded upbeat and confident that they could help. They billed all of my claims. However, they did NOT use my fee schedule. They did NOT read any of the added notes that I entered for the claims. They then assured me that they would fix all of their errors. HBS has not replied to my last few email messages. HBS has not replied to my phone messages. I found it interesting to note that the support person from HBS had written a review of HBS 8 months prior - she was apparently a student interested in working there. So, I'm thinking that her lack of experience has contributed to their lack of support? Bottom line, it is a BAD idea to use this company to help you with accounts receivables. They do not take enough care in their billing and they do not followup with me, their customer. read more

new management. avoid. Had dealt w/ Mike as owner for several years and had mostly positive results. After moving my practice to TX they disabled the account and asked for $1920 to reinstate it. They also did not notify me that they had cancelled my account. At first I got the 'receptionist' who was clueless. About 1 week after contacting them, they said they are no longer able to verify insurance before they bill. They had only verified approximately 8 people, denying coverage to all, some of which were not correctly verified. But if the biller says they can't bill then you don't argue. A few months later they said they needed $1920 to continue processing verifications. I do not recommend them for acupuncture billing services. NEW MANAGEMENT - AVOID. read more

Ive heard decent things about this service however i called last week and did not receive an email as they indicated i would, to set up a consultation. So i figured ok, 5 days later i called them back and the receptionist took my info down again and said someone will email me yet again to set up the consultation. As soon as we hung up, i received the specified email and set up my consultation for today at 2:45. Great, i get a confirmation email to indicate a reminder of todays scheduled appointment with the Zoom log in info. 2:45 comes around and i log in to connect and waited until 3:00 as it stated "waiting for host to start meeting". No big deal, i figured ok let me call back one more time before i decide going else where. The receptionist tried to contact my interviewer and did not reach her. So today did not work out and i have not received an email or call back now 2 hours later and will not be calling back a 4th time. Maybe this service was not meant to be for me. I have procrastinated in accepting insurance simply because I don't know anything about it and it's been intimidating. I found HBS through a colleague and started using them last year. While it would be nice to have a thorough explanation of reimbursement rates and specifics on billing, I have found it extremely easy to find the answers I'm looking for with this company. Anytime I've had a question concerning credentialing, billing, and claims, someone responds within hours. Daniela is my go-to person because she is knowledgable, quick-to-respond, and will break down the difficult terms/"insurance lingo" with patience! Their customer service is top notch. Overall, I've been really impressed with their level of customer service. The reason it's not 5 stars is simply because of some billing issues I've had and lack of explanation. On behalf of Taylor Made Acupuncture, I/we recently partnered up with Holistic Billing Services and we couldn't be more impressed! We are just a two-person practice, with one practitioner. I handle everything outside of the acupuncture itself. At this time, the only insurance we take is TriWest, and neither Taylor or I have any experience with that. I have resisted being part of the electronic medical/insurance world for 18 years. I am a classicist, and if I can't do it with pen and paper I don't want to do it. However, I ran into an infuriating and costly situation where an insurance company owed me several grand, and nothing I did could shake it loose. I chose HBS because they had sent me a reasonable-seeming appeal, and I'm glad I dd. I just received about half what the insurance company owed me, and the rest will be coming soon. The process is simple enough and HBS' fees low enough, that I'm going to be using them from now on for all my insurance billing needs.
