We arrived to Malpensa in the morning after an 8 hour flight from NYC. A nice, comfy bed in a quiet, safe environment was all I needed at that point. Getting to the hotel proved to be a drag however. I suggested they put up huge print outs or something at the airport so people could figure out how to get to the shuttle. At the airport, we were constantly told to go to exit 6, but the shuttle was never there. We ended up taking a taxi that unfortunately ripped us off when we finally got to HIX. So much for a welcome to Italy, eh?
Since we checked in during the morning, I was glad they gave us a room early on. My only gripe was choosing the complimentary wine over the points as a Plat member. I couldn't enjoy any due to time constraints and a next-day flight.
The bed and room were good, nothing out of the ordinary. It was basic and comfy, perfect for sleep. The wifi didn't work that morning, but luckily I didn't have a need for it. It worked later that day though and it was fine for business or personal use.
Breakfast was not good nor bad, just decent enough for an airport hotel. They had all your standard hot items like eggs and bacon as well as other things like yogurt, pastries, juice. I liked it.
When going into Milan, on top of the 16 euros roundtrip/person, the HIX also charges 3 euros one-way from and to the airport. I always thought shuttles at Holiday Inn were complimentary. Just a general heads up for some folks who don't know. Additionally, if your flight is EasyJet, you can reserve ahead of time so the driver can take you to Terminal 2 where EasyJet is based at.
Hotel as the 3 stars suggest, was A-OK. read more
