Their recommendation was spot on. We were very happy with our choices, the counter service, and how relatively little we paid for it all. As with many other places in these parts, cash is king. Add a little bread, some wine from the Guesthouse pantry, and we had all we needed to hang out at "home" with some snacks at the end of the day. Life is good.

Paul is my go-to place when I want to grab a quick breakfast bite and a pot of tea. There are two…read morePaul locations in this center - a smaller stand on the main floor as you walk in from the metro, and the full-size cafe downstairs. This one (the full-size) is quite spacious and the service is always friendly. They have a wide array of pastries, breads, sandwiches, and salads; and I am a huge fan of their chocolate donuts, maslovy croissants, and the brioches with goat cheese. For dining in though, I wish they would heat up the croissants or the brioches. I'm sure they would taste so much better.

BUT the quiches have unfortunately gone down the drain. I used to love them but now they are really bad quality. Dry and never warm enough. Even today, but this time I asked them to please heat it again which they said no problem. They brought the dish to the table and were holding the plate with gloves as if it was hot but the plate was cold and the quiche was just as cold as when I ordered it! Next time I'll just get the salad :)

The prices at V!va were expensive even for Austrian/French standards. The chocolate isn't originally Czech, its Belgian. This had to be the worst chocolate I have ever had. The prices were astronomical, like 10 euros for 9 pieces of chocolate. I bought one black truffle chocolate for 1.2 euros and it tasted like metal or chemicals. Do not come here. The staff is an odd mixture of friendly, right-in-your-face, stand-offish, and indifferent. It makes for a bit of a schizophrenic shopping experience. The prices are a bit high for Prague as well, but worth it if you want the good stuff. However, when I want some good Italian meats or certain wines, or fresh pasta, or a GIANT thing of olive oil, I go here. I will, say, though, that lately they have really been putting on the hard up-sell, rather obnoxiously, and are very reluctant to take "no" for an answer. Kind of makes it a stressful experience.
