This was the best weather yet for the 10th year of Hogs For the Cause, an incredible fundraiser that raises money for families with children fighting pediatric brain cancer. While I've decided that I actually love a bit of splishsplashing around in my rain boots, I'm so happy the teams had a year without a drop of rain!
Initially I was wary about this location out at the Lakefront arena when they moved out here last year but I think for the space they need for all the teams that participate; it's perfect.
While I did not attend the Friday night events this year, I have in the past and they're always a really good time so if you're deciding whether not to buy an all weekend pass; I 100% percent suggest it. You can usually get a cheap wristband to enjoy beverages all weekend at some of the parties that the teams host. If I had to pick tents to visit on Friday night it would be The Boars Nest and Deuce Pigalow.
This was their first year putting money on wristbands and having that be the way that people purchase things on the inside. The lines were a little longer than usual to get in but I'm sure they'll have it down for next year but not a reason for them to lose a star.
I would suggest using a card to load money onto your bracelet because that way you can get a refund if you don't spend it all, but I was really fine with the cash that I had intended to spend going to this great cause.
Folks get so creative every year! There are some dishes folks serve again and again and then there is really interesting ones that I love to try. I don't think you can go wrong with a taco filled with pork deliciousness but I also really enjoyed the Billycado dishes from DeSwine Intervention that were half avocados filled with fresh accoutrements as well as pork! Apparently their are full on vegetarian options out there, but I know nothing on that topic
It's also downright incredible the set up these teams put together out there for the week! Hogaritaville aka Frey Smoked Meat Co brought the beach while Deadpork had a Deadpool mascot with pig face dancing around and if you've never seen my boomerang in the Piggy Stardust head...well you're missing out. ;)
Plenty of space, short lines, great food, music, and the chance of beautiful weather is a great reason to make it out to this festival every year, if not solely to support a wonderful cause! read more
