Stumbled across this place after the apparently just reopened in the Yeti bar downtown Fort Collins. We stopped in for lunch and was definitely not disappointed. My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich and I got the brisket sandwich. We split them and both were wonderful. Good flavor and very tender. The cowboy beans were good and just the right amount after a filling sandwich The owner was very nice and checked on us a couple times. We came here on 8/17/23 what a treat. The food was delicious ( sadly I forgot to take pictures :-( . But the food was very good. Remind us of Texas. The service was very welcoming. I have done Pilates next door, and it would kill me when class was around lunch time with the enticing aroma of BBQ eating into the building. I finally decided to give them a try when I was in the area around dinner time. I tried the brisket sandwich with a side of beans. Maybe it was the build up from "being good" after so many workouts, but my food was so disappointing. The brisket was dry and bland, the beans pretty much unseasoned. The saving grace was the one mustard-based sauce. I wasn't sure if it was just a bad day, but it seems maybe not from other reviews. The brisket here is really good. Nice pull and not dry. They have a daily special that is nice. Today's was a bbq beef sandwich with a side and a couple of baby pickles. I had the coke slaw, I believe they use apple cider vinegar as the base for the cole slaw. It was good, I just added salt & pepper for my taste. They have a Mac & cheese, Cowboy beans and potato salad and chips as sides. I'm sure there were a couple other sides that I'm forgetting. We also had the pulled pork and there pork ribs. Nicely cooked and the flavor of the meat stands alone, good without being hidden by bbq sauce. The bbq sauce was tangy and not overly spicy or sweet. The store is small with about 5 tables inside. It's a bbq place, nothing fancy. There are some picnic tables outside when the weather permits. The service was friendly as it should be for a bbq style, quick, if you have a a 30 min lunch I would check into ordering ahead so you can enjoy your meal! Overall this place is hanger worthy . Really enjoyed the brisket and pork ribs we took food to go and it was really delicious. We couldn't keep our hands off the brisket all the way home which seemed like it took forever waiting to eat that food. We had just the ribs and the brisket and we wish you were having something else, but I don't know one. Oh, we did order the role which seem to be a waste of space kind of a wasted chance to do good they just give us a hamburger bun. When you bbq you talk about having a bark on your meat. This place has a literal bark on it. This means you cannot chew it. The regular bbq sauce was ok. The beans are watery and on the bland side. Me and my wife found this hidden gem while hunting for mattress sets for my kids. I saw it and promptly looked it here on Yelp. I see it had good reviews so after some debate we decided to give it a try. (The wife wanted something else but conceded to prevent me going from hungry too hangry. ) First it's a very small dining room. So if get take out for larger groups. But we found a recently vacated spot while ordering and promptly sat so we wouldn't lose it. Yes, they were busy. We both got the same thing, the rib special with about 4 pork ribs each and two sides. We both had the cowboy beans and potato salad. The potato salad was really good. We both devoured them. She did not like the beans so much as she prefers traditional style baked beans however I liked them a lot as I don't usually like baked beans. These were more like a meatless chili. I liked them and ate both of them,lol. The ribs were good bit not great. They had very good smoked flavor and were cooked well but they still had the membrane on the underside which can make them a little tougher than without. There were several different types of BBQ sauce and to our disappointment we didn't see the "Carolina style" mustard sauce until we were on our way out. It's been years since I ate here. My family and I ordered and picked up food here for dinner and to me it wasn't very good. We got pulled chicken and pulled pork sandwiches. One pork platter. I dont know what the chicken tasted like but the pork was absolutely salty and dry...couldn't even taste the pork. Had to drench in bbq sauce that I already had at home. The pork platter is almost $12 and thats what you see in the photo... for a grown adult... a grown fit male is supposed to be satisfied with this?.... When I first opened it I thought it was a mistake so I called them up and they said yup thats what its supposed to be. Sorry but thats a rip off. Hog Wild prides themselves in their carefully tended, slow smoked meats. Chicken, brisket, ribs, pulled pork-they've got all the varieties to get your mouth watering. They also have a host of sides to accompany-my favorite is their potato salad! And their sauces are seriously some of the best I've had! Just went yesterday, first time going since I heard about it favorably. So the place is off-campus and kind of a shack (which is how bbq should be done), and the food came out really quick. And oh boy, the rib portions for 8 bucks is huge; I had 2 pieces and was beyond full. The lack of the 5th star is due to the bbq sauce being meh. Spicy sauce was not spicy, reg was a bit oversugary. Hog Wild charges $17 for a small slice of mediocre brisket, some flavorless, store-bought coleslaw, mac & cheese, and a previously frozen cornbread muffin. The only decent thing there was the sauce, and I'm not sure if it was homemade or store-bought. The quality of the rest of the meal would put my bet on the latter. How fortuitous that my first time here baby back ribs are on special. They were tender with just enough pull to make you feel primal. The flavor was spot on. I chased them down with a side of Mac and cheese that was the perfect velvety texture. The sauces, mustard and regular were flavorful without overpowering the meat. I feel like many of the bad reviews I came across may have came on a bad day, or they don't know BBQ, cause this is probably the best BBQ in Fort Collins. I have pretty high standards mostly due to frequenting amazing BBQ joints in Texas, which this place would fit right in. From the quaint small town feel to the juicy meat! It was great! I really liked both the sauces to put on my pulled pork sandwich, the bread was just right, and the potato salad was perfect... I will definitely be back to try the beef brisket, as well as other daily specials they have. My only gripe is the hours, they always seem to be closed when I'm hungry for BBQ, I'm sure glad I was able to finally make it in. Really good moist fresh meat and the bread had a great soft hard and crunchy consistency. Overall really good service as well from the moment we got in to when we left. As a fan of great BBQ I have to start with a resounding "meh." I found the establishment to be a bit dingy which I could look past if the BBQ was amazing, but it just wasn't. The sauces left something to be desired, the brisket was just OK. The pulled pork had a nice flavor but the bread the sandwiches were on was just awful. I seriously could look past all this, if the sides could make up for it but sadly no. An unimpressing, slightly old potato salad, and cowboy beans that were bland and uninspired. It really felt like a sorry impression of a good BBQ place. Maybe I'm just a BBQ snob, but I've had better. Normally I am not a fan of BBQ flavor at all. However I have a very weak spot when it comes to pulled pork sandwiches. Hog Wild has been around a long time and my grandmother's plastic molding company that was across the street for many years. So every time when I went to go see my grandmother at work I would be reminded of Hog Wild when I was in the vicinity. I never really gave it a try until recently. I am glad that I did make that visit! Better late than never! As I said I have a weak spot for BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and indeed this place did not disappoint! My pork sandwich was good and savory but not too much sweet to counterbalance it like I notice with many BBQ sandwiches. The result was nothing short of great! To my knowledge this is the best BBQ place in Fort Collins and while I haven't tried every BBQ joint in town it is a safe bet that going of other people's Yelps and the few others that I did dabble in that this place is at least in the running! Besides sandwiches they have lots of other menu options. The one thing that sticks in mind though is their full rack of ribs you can get or half a rack which also looked great. As a big fan of BBQ, I don't think I have ever been so disappointed. After reading so many positive reviews I could not wait to come here, but nearly every aspect of my meal failed to deliver. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with beans. The sandwich was just ok. The smoke flavor came through as it should, but the meat was a little too dry and the portion was a little skimpy compared to what I am used to. I did like the mustard BBQ sauce, but overall the meat didn't stand out enough on its own. Real trouble starts at the sides though, which is something that many rank-and-file BBQ restaurants tend to overlook,. Unfortunately that seemed to be the case with my beans, which were probably hands down the absolute worst I have ever had, being both tasteless and extremely watery to boot. Far worse than the canned stuff you can buy at the supermarket. My guess is that given all of the praise this place has received, I may have simply come here on an off day. Had I not found a place nearby that served much better food, I probably would have given the food here another chance by now, but after visiting Serious Texas BBQ, I have not been here since. read more

I've been trying to eat here for months! They close early in the day during the week, have even shorter hours on Saturday and are closed Sunday. I made it in the door with 5 minutes to spare. Got the pulled pork sandwich and 2 ribs. The sandwich came on a roll with BBQ sauce and pork. I liked that it was on a roll instead of in a bun. I put some of their spicy BBQ sauce on the top and sides for an extra kick. Wow, that was one good sandwich. The ribs were good because they were huge with lots of meat but they were a little burned and dry on the ends. I'll chalk it up to a mistake on the grill this time. I couldn't finish all the food I got. The prices are pretty standard of BBQ food. $2 a rib, about $6 for the sandwich. Not a bad spot but the hours of operation are annoying. I believe they close at 6pm on weeknights so get here early if you want BBQ for an early dinner. read more

It really doesn't look like restaurant when you enter, but when you enter you smell the odor of a butcher shop that only adds to the atmosphere. When you order and get your food you are treated to some of the best BBQ west of the Mississippi. I got their beef brisket sandwich, and it was mouth watering tender, served with BBQ sauce and all in a nice bun. The staff was super friendly and kind. I am surprised by the number of positive reviews of Hog Wild here on Yelp. I recently had my first visit and was underwhelmed. Although this is mostly a lunch spot, we came in a little before 6pm as they close at 7pm. The guy working the counter was very friendly but locked the door after we came in to deter any other would-be customers. A little weird considering it was an hour before close, but no big deal. We ordered ribs and pulled pork. Both were okay. Both were very dry and quite chewy. The ribs had to be gnawed off the bone indicating to me that they were cooked too hot and too fast. The baked beans were also very bland and cornbread was dry, slightly stale and tasteless. The best part of the meal was the mustard based and hot BBQ sauces. I mentioned that I enjoyed the sauces as the lone employee unlocked the door for us to leave and he responded "Oh, I'm glad you like it. You know you can buy that at the store, we don't make it here." As sauce is at the heart of BBQ I was pretty disappointed to hear they don't even make their own. Given the positive reviews here, I may give Hog Wild another shot, but after my first impression I would recommend anyone to go to Nordy's or Moe's (though Moe's is a little more expensive) rather than HW. read more

The brisket is pretty good. The sauces are fun, though like all good bbq, the brisket does not need it. The pork rib came second to the brisket. That is, the brisket is better. The pork rib was slightly dry - unlike the brisket. I imagine this is because we came it at 10 mins to closing. So, we got whatever was sitting around all day. Skip the sides.
