My husband is a homebrewer and had excitedly noticed on our stop earluer in the week that Daane's carries wine and beer making supplies, so we thought it was worth a shot. The owner walked us over to the wine room, showed us the spiced cider spice mix, which she said wouldn't work because it's too sugary. He then noticed one of the meads in stock came with a complimentary pavk of mulling spices and he just gave it to her -- no charge. Whenever we need to pick up a quick something from a local shop -- we will be coming here. They also offer the quirkiest array of services here: copy machine, public notary service, Western Union, a hot lunch station, large greeting card section, firewood and some lake toys and lanterns. There are always a ton of Michigan beers, ciders, meads, wines, and even some much saught after spirts too. Almost all of the beers are sold as singles so if you are looking to try everything, much like I do, you will not be disappointed. Also, of you are into 40 oz. beers expect a wide variety that you don't see in very may other states and counties. Grab Mickey's Ice or Olde English Black Label for old times. If you are looking to splurge they do have two huge walls lined with Cognacs, tequilas, rums, Scotches, and Bourbons that can set you back $40 to $400 a bottle. Too bad the new owner got rid of the "Wall-O-Shame," where local thieves and people with fame IDs had their pictures up with funny commentary.

Not only do they think it's ok to accuse you of driving there intoxicated, but they will not sell you any liquor until after they interrogate you about your level of soberness. I was sober as I could possibly be, had a long day of taking care of the family, wanted a pint of grey goose. Stepped into their store, walked around to get a few snacks, go up to the counter and ask for a pint of GG. She proceeds to smirk and ask , "Are you sure you're ok to drive?" ---- ummmm I'm sorry ??? Excuse me?? YES, I'm dead sober and would like a drink , if you'll stop holding it hostage now for your interrogation, thanks. Talk about over stepping boundaries. If they truly want to weed out the drunks from the sober ones to "protect their business" , then they need a breathalyzer at the counter to just make people do that instead of accusing every person in there past 10 of driving there intoxicated. Told the clerk I had 30 bottle/can returns…read more The clerk and I asked him why then he started yelled at me "you NO customer" and "I don't see you in the mornings" and that "its from 10-12" despite that there being sign posted saying bottle returns are to be made until 3PM on weekdays. Due its location I've been coming here for the past 17 years and never before have I ever been treated like this.
