One of my craigslist roommates ended up being crazy and decided to stop paying rent. Because she was a sublettor, our landlord wouldn't help us get rid of her and I had to take her to court to evict. Kirk did a fantastic job handling the case for us, responding to her inane/irrelevant emails and maintaining a professional facade through a whole wad of pretty unreasonable behavior. When her parents (who tried to stand in for her in court, long story) said that she wasn't going to abide by the court's decision, he convinced them otherwise and she was gone from the premises later that day. I do have to point out that when the bill came, Kirk had overcharged us. When I pointed out the error, he quickly rectified it, and I believe it was an honest mistake, but it was still slightly annoying to have to fix. I think it was due to a recent change in their billing software. Even with this mistake, he'd only charged us for 15 minutes of billable hours (instead of zero, since we'd paid the flat contested fee up front), which is honestly quite generous considering how much nonsense he had to put up with from the defendant. I'd take a half star off for this if yelp allowed it. Overall, I'd definitely hire him for any real estate lawsuits I have in the future (hopefully none!). Leo is a straight up kinda guy no run around and straight to the point. He even helped me save money by giving me his professional insight. Long story short I was unhappy with my lease and Leo helped me rescind it in the snap of a finger. Never ever contact Hoffman group at all! The name Kirk is about the time he'll spend on the case and the amount of money you'll give him! That's all about consultation for $450! I wasted time and effort to talk to him and most of the lawyer I contacted after him are all free consultation! All he told me is pretty scary and not helpful. He charged too much when he feels that you have not enough money for the case. He will definitely send you to a referral the next day. I have to close the card that he charged cos I read from the previous review that he will charge more without authorization . He is scary to begin with. The only thing I heard from the $450 consultation was the word " I don't know if I can help you". I have to spend this much time and hours so you probably spend 10 of thousands or more ...please beware of this firm . Not worth if your time and case! This is long overdue. I contracted with Kirk Hoffman back in July 2016. We had a very complex case where we purchased from the bank but the ex owners was able to file a lawsuit against the property for several years to keep the home from being able to be sold. These old owners were using the system to their benefit of not having to pay for mortgage or rent for over two years which I find despicable. After several consultations and court hearings Mr. Hoffman was amazing and getting the result in evicting the old owners after dealing with a shady attorney from the other side who attempted to bring in false tenants. He understood the tricks of that shady attorney and was able to play his game to our advantage. It was amazing to see that. I contacted them and I got useless consultation(20 min consultation with almost $200) & a piece of paper($660). He made me wait for 15 min but he add the waiting time into the consultation. He recommended to mask the record after my credit has been damaged. He just did it without detail explain. Actually it is a just piece of paper written within 100 words. and it is actually just form so that they don't need to fill out the form from the scratch . They just put my information such as name. It does not requires detail information about the case. I contacted another attorney because Kirk told me he can not appear the court. The new attorney prepared answer instead of masking the record. The answer requires effort to fill out from the scratch and have to deeply understand about the case. The new attorney made me win thorough this work. And he charged only $400. It is much cheaper than a piece of paper which is garbage now. Anyway the piece of paper which provided by Kirk is just garbage now. But I allowed him to charge $660 because I allowed him to prepare the garbage paper because he told me only about it and I thought it is very important and there is no way to protect my credit. After that he charge almost $900. He just got the money from my credit card WITHOUT my approval. Actually he took money multiple times. So that I have to lock the credit card to avoid further payment. Actually he took $1,700 from my credit card without my approval, after that I complain about it, he cancel $800. I cannot believe the piece of paper which looks like just form takes more then 2 hours to prepare. This is my conclusion. He is not interested in how to make his customers win. He is just interested in how to get the money from the customers. I know many of attorneys are same. And he is one of them who are greedy, no skill, and no tactics to win. The Hoffman group is really a good organization to get eviction needs met. I helped a person who I thought a friend, who then used theft and manipulation to get what she wanted. She then refused to move and I was forced to seek legal guidance. In spite of her being a guest, the law gave her tenant rights and she used those to sue me continuously throughtout the eviction process. We went to court several times, consulted in person, on the phone, in email, and in text. Kirk is a very experienced, knowledgeable, responsive and capable lawyer. He helped me with a problem I had with moving out my long time tenants at my Santa Clara townhouse. In August of last year, I notified my tenants that they needed to move out by the end of January so my son could move in from Elk Grove. I doubled the rent (the rent was already low and the new state law did not affect me) effective 2/1/2020 to motivate them to move. The tenants appeared co-operative until the husband gave me a notice the end of December demanding that I let them stay another 6 months at current rent based on protections provided by the Fair Housing Act for people with disabilities. The disability claim was bogus. My concern was that the tenants would come back at the end of the 6 months and demand an extension to their stay again. I contacted Kirk Hoffman and he stated that the husband's requests were unreasonable and did not make sense. He pointed out that the disability claim would not forestall the rent increase.
