After every visit we would ask how…read morewe should pay and what our total is and every time Debbie would say something along the lines of: "Don't worry about it. I'm behind on my billing anyway." She would never tell us her rate or how much we owed which in hindsight was highly suspicious. Fast forward a few months after we got our taxes sorted out (we did most of the work ourselves), we received a surprise bill for a crazy amount owing, almost $2000 for 2 years worth of taxes without any bookkeeping. We were floored. We called to inquire why it was so high and Debbie could not explain and kept saying her billing person was on vacation. Long vacations at this place apparently! After repeated phone calls to inquire, she finally explained that her rate was very high and that the hours add up quickly. This would have been good to know from the start before we knew what we were getting in to. I called to get a breakdown on my bill so we knew what we were paying for and she blatantly told me I did not need to see that! "Excuse me?" I asked. She continued to argue with me about it and called me an asshole! What great customer service, Debbie! I'm an asshole because I want a breakdown on my bill, to see your rate, how much we owe and for what exactly. Overall, Debbie was unbelievably rude, unhelpful and very shady. We ended up wasting a lot of our time and money dealing with Johnston and Beaudette. STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST!

I dragged my feet for a while but I finally chose Montgomery & Merrill. One reason I chose them is that M&M is an all female accounting firm- how often do you see that? They're recommended by the women's small business groups. Also the first consultation is free. Which is awesome. Going there is like going to see a wise older sister, I've been seen by both Kathy and Colleen and they both do great jobs. When I'm super overwhelmed I can usually take a breather and pet someone's dog because usually there's one there. Also the atmosphere is great-- clean, professional, but not stuffy. The office is right downtown and really convenient to get to. I really can't say enough great things about these ladies. They're a business owning woman's best friend.
