The line was crazy on a Sunday because it's only open for two hours, but apparently this is the best place near Duisburg for sweets so we had to try it. We were on our way to my parents-in-law when we decided to bring some cake for our Sunday afternoon…read morevisit. In this part of town, there are 3 bakeries next to each other, but one seemed to have gone out of business and the other one was closed, so I ended up at Bäckerei Hoenen. They have the usual: Different breads and rolls, pastries and cake as well as coffee specialties although it's more a take-out place than a cafe where you would like to sit down and hang out. The cake prices were a pleasant surprise: 2.00 - 2.15 € per slice - and those are big. You can easily share a slice with 2 people. In the end I bought 3 slices of cake (1 cheesecake, 1 cherry cake, 1 peach cake), 2 multigrain rolls as well as a small ball shaped pastry for the kiddo and everything rang in at 7.85 €. The service was very friendly & quick. I was in & out within 5 minutes. We had afternoon coffee at my in-law's house half an hour later and everything turned out to be quite good. The cheesecake was pleasantly light and my MIL/FIL enjoyed the fruit cakes as well. This is definitely a good place to hit if you need to buy the essentials for a proper German sit-in with "Kaffee und Kuchen".
