We were on our way to my parents-in-law when we decided to bring some cake for our Sunday afternoon visit.
In this part of town, there are 3 bakeries next to each other, but one seemed to have gone out of business and the other one was closed, so I ended up at Bäckerei Hoenen.
They have the usual:
Different breads and rolls, pastries and cake as well as coffee specialties although it's more a take-out place than a cafe where you would like to sit down and hang out.
The cake prices were a pleasant surprise: 2.00 - 2.15 € per slice - and those are big. You can easily share a slice with 2 people.
In the end I bought 3 slices of cake (1 cheesecake, 1 cherry cake, 1 peach cake), 2 multigrain rolls as well as a small ball shaped pastry for the kiddo and everything rang in at 7.85 €.
The service was very friendly & quick. I was in & out within 5 minutes.
We had afternoon coffee at my in-law's house half an hour later and everything turned out to be quite good. The cheesecake was pleasantly light and my MIL/FIL enjoyed the fruit cakes as well.
This is definitely a good place to hit if you need to buy the essentials for a proper German sit-in with "Kaffee und Kuchen". read more
