The rhetoric spewing force about 'the need to shoot', 'why shoot' and 'guns should only be in the hands of authority'. Sport & target shooting is managed, regulated and a traditional Australian sports activity. As a sport and leisure activity it is educational, fun and can broaden your social disposition. This review does not concern itself about hunting because that's a whole different cultural aspect and far to broad a subject to discuss here. If you want to try shooting without a shooters licence the Sydney International Shooting Centre (SISC) at Cecil Park, just off the M5 onto Elizabeth Bay Drive then this is the Turkey Shootin' place to. For details on introductory shooting check out the SISC website. Walking into the SISC at Cecil Park is for the first time shooter daunting. Good, because it should be. It's always about shooting safety. However, a regular shooter understands on entering the SISC you must in every way switch on and tune in to safety and respect for the seriousness of the activity. SISC staff are extremely professional and most of all very helpful. If you have any questions always ask because other shooters and range staff will be clueless as to what level of proficiency, awareness and responsibility you are at. NSW sport and target shooting reinforces safety, training and education regardless of experience or how long you have been shooting. In order to get your shooters licence you will spend time and money going through the administrative processes and testing of fire arm safety knowledge (written). Even then when you earn your privilege to shoot, buying a rifle and or shotgun is not something you are allowed to do right away. Importantly, you must be a member of a shooting club before you can get your full licence. However, read and research the appropriate government websites that will lead you step by step through the entire process. Shooting is fun. It is a discipline that improves with experience. The most important factor when shooting at SISC is the atmosphere of safety and professionalism providing you that sense of security and comfort when taking aim down range. Shooting is a visceral experience. The discipline of putting into play the knowledge of your weapon, ammunition and safety build confidence and challenges your mind and body. Cleaning your weapon the most serious and important safety factors that come into play. Shooting is a pleasure and it is a sport that covers the entire spectrum of age and gender. So check out the SISC and you may be surprised. Enjoy.

Definitely a fan!…read more The last time I picked up a bow and arrow I killed a wild boar. I was 15. Twelve years later and still strong. The weather was heaps good and had great company which made the experience even better. $26 for group events having your own section for 1.5 hour is not bad if you ask me. At first while waiting for the rest of the gang to arrive I thought to myself, awesome! Can't wait to hold Hawkeye's bow ... 15 minutes later and ended up with a wooden bow and arrow - fail. Little did I know the first section were the professional players training for whatever they are training and we use the amateur bows haha. Not sure whether all the staff there are like that or not, but the facilitator we got was pretty dull and boring. Seemed like she hates her job and just needs to be there for the sake of it. But doesn't really matter who's there to be honest, you don't really need to speak to them anyway, just listen to when to pick up the arrows and when to shoot. Can't wait for round 2!

Yes, we do pretend we are in the hunger games, especially when we get to shoot balloons in the final rounds. However, there are often morons with you at the shooting range and you do spend a bit of time waiting around for them to figure out what they're doing. I guess that's called life.
