If you enjoy playing ball, having a cold beer, and having fun with some friends - this is a good place for a league. The umpires are excellent - I've known a few for many years and they do a great job. The fields are smaller, but "good bats" are limited, keeping home runs down a little (but it feels good to get one - it still goes plenty far!). I hope they stick around for a long time - I love playing there on Tuesday nights.

While excited about the new venue, I was sad to leave a memorable (yet dilapidated) setting. After fours weeks of play at Hometown USA Community Park, I have to say the complex is pretty nice. There is ample parking for the amount of people that come through there. The two softball diamonds (next to the ice arena) are in very nice shape. They don't get chewed up too bad as the night progresses, though in the later games you might get some funny hops through the higher-traffic areas. The fences are long enough that more balls are in play, but it's not impossible to get a home run. I like that challenge. The shelter near those fields houses relatively clean bathrooms. The covered area will be good if we encounter rain - it's a large enough area to hold all of us while a shower passes. Nice. The shelter also houses a concession stand. They are fairly well stocked, but it's "cans only" for beer (no taps or pitchers). Also, they don't pop their own corn. Well, they DO, but it's microwave popcorn. Basically, the concessions are whatever they can buy in cases and sell through the window. It's serviceable, but it could be so much better. For the rest of the enormous complex, I haven't been able to experience any of that. I appears to be just as nice as what I've seen, and people I know enjoy spending their time there for baseball games, their kids' games, etc.

The rack rate here is $15 for 9 holes, and $25 for 18 (it's 9 holes, so you'd just do two laps). But watch for deals - you can often find the 10am rate for $10. What disappointed me there was the $10 "convenience fee" booking online with them. I did an end-around and booked via Teeoff.com and saved that fee. Whatever you do, it's a pretty decent deal to walk 9 holes "in town". Course quality is okay. The layout is cool - for an executive course (3 par 4s, 6 par 3s), it's got a lot of character. Mature trees, some elevation change, a little water, and some well-placed bunkers give you more to think about than just the pin position. The condition is the "okay" part - some of the more-used parts of the fairway (like, around 220 yards out where many drives land) was full of crabgrass. While not ideal, you're still golfing in town, so you deal with it. This isn't U-Ridge! People - I was greeted by a friendly fellow in the clubhouse. He saw me in the system let me know me and my friends could get out a little early if we wanted to. Very nice and helpful. In short - this isn't a bad little course if you don't want to leave town to scratch that golf itch. If you're looking for the class 18-hole adventure with cart and a well-stocked clubhouse bar, you'll want to go somewhere else and pay up. But this is a nice little slice of nature right in town, and it gets the job done.

Pleasant View Golf Course is a solid golfing option on the west side of Madison…read more First off, the view (hence the name) from the clubhouse is amazing - from it's high hilltop location, you can see all the way down to Lake Mendota. The range is hitting off mats (like many places) and is decent value at $6/11/15 for small/medium/large baskets. They also a rangecard special where you can get $100 value for $80. The practice putting green is usually in good shape and is a good decently large area to practice your short game. As far as the course, I've only played the Billy Goat Par 3, and found it to be fun for beginners, with a range of distances from 90 to 180 yards. The greens and bunkers are maintained pretty well, given the harsh weather conditions in southern Wisconsin recently.
