The "Buffalo to Clearmont and Back Maybe" railroad was so named by locals, because it had problems staying on the track. Signs along the route tell the story, and highlight the artifacts.

A huge bonus is that it didn't smell like a typical museum, which I definitely appreciated. Very reasonable entrance fee, but free for blue star families such as mine. Cleverly concealed in downtown Buffalo, Wyo.'s "Sheriff Walt Longmire re-election campaign headquarters" on S. Main Street, this is the place for all the fan necessities one could ever desire. Especially cool is that the business is run by Johnson's wife, Judy -- who book fans know from the dedications of all of his books. (She *is* as special as the dedications imply). And Johnson frequently drops by the store. I greatly admired Branch Connelly's tan jacket from the TV series, but was disappointed that it isn't made by Carhartt or some other provider I knew. Judy carries the real thing -- Schaefer Outfitters ranch wear clothing (made in the USA!) and I can happily confirm that the coat is not only a good looking garment, but the match for blustery Wyoming fall weather. (My wife insists I remove my new coat before coming to bed.) In fact, Judy said she persuaded TV producers to outfit some of the cast in Schaefer clothing for an authentic Wyoming look. This is a fun store with super staff (besides Judy) and a lot of clever Longmire-iana. Buffalo is a charming small town with a lot of Western history and many iconic businesses that Johnson has incorporated into his mythical Durant, Absaroka County Longmire universe. Even if you are not a Longmire fan, Buffalo is worth a visit. If you are a fan, this is a "must stop."

Ava community art center is one of my favorite establishments in Gillette. The arts need a…read morepresence in the community and Ava makes that happen. They constantly offer art classes, in all medias, for people of all ages. From painting and drawing to ceramics, photography, or even jewelry crafting - they make their classes easy and enjoyable for everyone. Sometimes there are single classes, but others can last for weeks. You can come and go as you please. They even offer monthly night painting classes for adults, wine included. This makes for a fun, relaxing, yet different get away. Look for classes specific to holidays, too! Ava also homes an ever changing gallery. Creations from artists all around the area can be found here. The exhibitions are always brilliant and you'll love seeing what the next one can bring - 2D or 3D work, it all has a chance to be displayed. Within the building you will also find a small gift shop area, offering work from local artists for sale. They always get new inventory and you can find some beautiful buys in all the different art mediums. There is also an assortment of art supplies on sale - paints, brushes, canvases and more!
